Chapter 28: Chapter 28

CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHT

RYKER

The room charged with apprehension and unspoken hatred lingered in the air creating an unsettling aura. Alpha Zane and I locked eyes for what seemed to be an eternity.

Never would I have thought I would do this. But I had to keep my pride at bay, just so I could do this. It was more like a bargain with dante.

For Roxanne.

“I don't have all day. If you're just going to spend it staring at me then you could leave,” Alpha Zane spat, a frown forming on his forehead.

“You think I'd journey for so long just to gaze at you? Wow, narcissist,” I muttered.

He frowned in utmost annoyance.“Then what?”

“I’m just wondering how your mate is able to look into that disgusting face of yours. The sight of it makes me question the substance you were made of.” I said.

“Yet you can't get your eyes off me,” he said. “You could tell me if you're obsessed or in love with me.”

“Firstly I'm no bi and secondly I'm amused at how much your low IQ radiates in this room.”

He charged at me, “I swear I could kill you right now. You are in my territory now. I won't have you insult me.”

“Don't test your luck, sweetheart,” I said and grazed my fingertips on this scar on his left cheek. The scar I had given him with Dante's claws.

“Remember what happened the last time you did, and if you don't, remember this beauty on your cheek. Even your healing skills can't get rid of the scar I etched into your skin,” I sucked my teeth, “sad.”

“Someone get this bastard out of here,” Alpha Zane snapped.

Chloe came out with a protruding belly and for some reason known to her, she beamed at me. “Alpha Ryker, what a pleasant surprise.”

I bowed my head.

“I told you to stay in but you keep showing off this bump to everyone that walks through the door,” Zane muttered under his breath.

She grinned at him as she joined us at the table. “You shouldn't be ashamed that you're going to be a dad soon.”

For some reason I felt envious. Perhaps because my mind drifted to Roxanne and I thought of how beautiful our cubs would have looked if only she was sane and had her wolf.

“I DIDN'T COME HERE FOR SOME FAMILY MEETING!” I growled loudly.

Chloe paled and provided a paper which she placed on the table before me. “We got your letter three days back and we considered it. If that's what you're here for, Alpha Ryker then please let us know how we can help you.”

I despised how pitiful her words sounded. It almost made me feel needy and on the verge of desperation. It's all your fault selina.

I read the contents of the letter and pushed it away. If my sister was going to ruin me for them, she could have at least spared me some pride. But the darn creature wrote the letter like I was incapable of anything and it seemed as though my pack members lacked skills.

My pride was stained.

“This is bullshit,” I murmured, glaring at the sickenlycute pair.

“You or the pathetic letter you wrote us?” Zane mocked.

I scoffed. “I should have destroyed that mouth of yours and now that I think of it, it's never too late.”

“Do you need my help or not?” He demanded.

I punched the table hard. But I felt the pain. “You think I'll write you a letter like this? You think I'll ever beg you. You're insane.”

“It has your insignia,” Chloe pointed out.

I glared daggers at her, hoping it would rip open her stomach and damage the kid growing in it.

Okay that was too much.

“I don't care. I came for Roxanne's things.”

Zane chuckled. “Fess up. I understand that your pride was shattered but I'm willing to help you.”

“If you dare speak of help I swear I'm removing your canines,” I spat and turned to Chloe. “Get me Roxanne's things.”

Alpha Zane stood in front of his wife like a shield. “You don't come into my house to make the rules. If you're forgetting, I'm the Alpha here and this is my Luna.”

My breathing slowed as it dawned on me that he was right. But I didn't admit it. My pride had been fucked in various ways just in one day. I couldn't accept it anymore.

“Fine. Give me Roxanne's things.”

“Apologise to my Luna,” he said.

The way he emphasised the word “luna” provoked me. I grabbed him by the collar and pulled him against me. “You've crossed your limits.”

“I do not owe you my sister, Alpha Ryker. First you invaded my Pack, you killed my people and you took my sister.”

“She's the tie between us. You don't deserve her,” I spat.

“Please let go of him,” Chloe pleaded as she began to sob.

“Yes I admit I don't deserve her,” he grinned. “No one deserves someone that is useless. But you decided to take her and couldn't treat her any better. What were you thinking? That you could treat her? She's white moon.”

“Roxanne is not useless,” I growled as I slammed him into the wall.

Zane groaned out in pain while his Luna stood on the side, watching and wailing. “Please Stop.”

“I have no family except Roxanne, Alpha Ryker. And if something happens to her, I swear I will kill the rest of you.”

I gulped and let him go.

“Now tell me, is my sister dying or not?”

ROXANNE

I grumbled in my sleep as the door of my room was flung open. I forced my heavy eyelids apart and watched the staff come in. They didn't utter a word, just removed the cuffs they put on me and helped me sit up.

What was going on?

I pushed back my hair from my face as I watched them spray a sort of perfume to campuses the scent of my wounds.

I should be offended but I would do the same too. It smelled really bad.

“Is there something special happening?” I asked the girl who came to clean me up.

“Yes Lady Roxanne, you have a visitor.”

My heart skipped a beat as I mouthed the word ‘visitor.’ Who could it be? I never had visitors nor friends so who was it?

“You can't go in with him. He has to go alone,” I heard someone say from outside the door.

“I do not trust this man. The guards would stay at the door, I insist.”

That was Ryker.

My visitor was a man? I am scared now. Left alone, my ears raked up, trying to pick up the slightest noise or voice, but I heard nothing. Everywhere was unbearably silent and it scared me.

The knob slowly turned and I watched, while my heart throbbed in palpitation. As the door opened and a terrifying aura following a menacing figure walked in, I forgot to breathe.

“Hey sister.”

RYKER

Waiting usually killed me but waiting outside Roxanne's door fucked my whole being. It made me want to bang my head against the wall, it slowed my breathing down and sent adrenaline round my body.

“What's taking them so long,” I raged as I punched the wall hard, causing a dent to form in the spot.

“I'm afraid if you keep transferring your aggression to the walls, Alpha, you'll bring down the entire building sooner,” Miles said.

“Would you rather I throw the pun at your wife's face and ruin her perfect nose so she gets a nose job done? Because I will love it!” I snapped. “This is all her fault. If she had never sent that letter that son of a wasted seven would never have stepped foot into my territory,” I raged.

“Mother of the moon,” Miles muttered watching me. “I'm sorry Alpha, but please calm down.”

I kicked at the door to Roxanne's room impatiently. “All you have to do is tell me if your darn pack members can get it fixed or not!”

“Alpha please you're going to tear that door down,” Beta Miles said as he tried to pacify me.

“And I swear if you don't keep your mouth shut, it will be the next thing I will tear,” I warned.

I was sick of waiting. I had a feeling whatever was happening behind closed doors between the siblings was nothing good. I didn't trust Zane enough for him to ask for alone time with his sister. But they were siblings and I had to calm my balls down.

I turned to Miles. “I'll be in my office. When they're done, inform me and if you hear any sort of weird movement, break in.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

I turned around and went up to my office while my people stood on the side and watched in silence, afraid to be the next scapegoat.

I slammed the door shut and unbuttoned my shirt while I sank in my chair. I hadn't asked for Roxanne's permission before her brother went to see her, which was wrong. But I had had enough of people reminding me what I did to them.

Like the coward didn't kill a family of mine.

I touched the brown boxes beside my table. They contained Roxanne's things which I wanted to give to her when she was done with her brother. I was going to ignore it till I found a book sticking out of one. A dusty book. I pulled it out and flipped open the cover then the first page which had the words:

Dear diary,

Okay fuck this!
