Chapter 27: Chapter 27
CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN
RYKER
“If you want to be suicidal you can be it everywhere else but here,” I said as I held her down tightly.
“Alpha you have to believe me. She was here… I swear she was here,” Roxanne stuttered in fear as she searched my face then she sobbed. “You don't believe me.”
“Roxanne,” I started.
She shook her head, “No it's fine. You don't believe me. I see it in your eyes. It's crazy Roxy. Why should I believe her,” she whispered, hurt etched on her face.
Selina stared at her with pity. “I told you she was possessed.”
“Hold her down,” I said to the guards, “strap her in. Else she would try to jump off the roof of this building.
She had tried it before.
Roxanne sobbed. She tried to fight the guards away but their energy was unmatched. They pinned her down and cuffed her hands and legs to the bed.
She would've injured herself or done something worse if I had come late. I couldn't bear it anymore. I was stuck with a mate who was psycho and perilous.
“Everyone excuse me, I need to be alone with her,” I announced in a steel voice.
“Brother you can't do that,” Selina protested.
I shook my head, “I can and I will. Leave.”
“Suit yourself,” she spat and walked out.
When I was alone with Roxanne, I watched her. She looked edgy like she wanted to break the cuffs and flee. I could feel myself softening up to her.
I sighed deeply and called her name, “Roxanne?”
“What?” She snapped, startling me for a second.
“Are you okay?” I asked in concern.
“Alpha believe me,” she whispered desperately. “I saw a woman.”
“Roxanne. The door was locked the whole time and the guards were outside keeping watch. They didn't see anything. The one thing that alerted us was you breaking the mirror.”
She looked around and pointed to the mess on the ground. “There was a cat and the tuna. It ate the tuna…” she tried off.
“This tuna? It's untouched, Roxanne,” I said and rubbed my forehead.
She shook her head, her eyes wide with terror. “I swear the cat ate the tuna. What's going on?”
“Roxanne you have to be contained till you're back to normal.”
“I am normal,” she protested. “I'm not crazy, Alpha.”
I sighed in exasperation. “Fine. Who did you see, Roxanne?”
“A woman,” she said hastily. “She's tall and really beautiful. Her red hair was in a French plait and her green eyes were almost lifeless. Freckles adorned her cheeks and her dress was royal. Brown in colour with lovely designs.”
I froze. “Did she tell you her name?”
“She didn’t say her name.”
I sighed, my resolve melting. She still looked frightened and I was sure it would take a while for her to snap out of it. I didn't want to pressure her any longer. “It's okay, get your rest. The staff will be back here to help you feed.”
Her Hazel eyes gazed into mine for a brief second as if searching for something but then she looked away. She didn’t say any words.
***
As I entered my room, I went to the locker where I usually kept stuff I wanted to forget. I should consider throwing Roxanne in there too. The hinges creaked as I forced it open. The whole place was covered in dust and thick cobwebs and it seemed as though I was just opening the door scores after.
I can't really remember how long it has been locked but I did know it was for a long time.
Without wasting any more time, I scavenged the box at the top, sneezing all the way till I found what I was looking for. I pulled it out and slammed the locker door.
I walked to the balcony— cigar in my mouth and a picture in my hands. Usually I didn't smoke except I was bothered and today I was unnerved.
I gazed at the picture and traced my fingertips on the edge of the frame. The woman Roxanne said she had seen, the woman she had described, was the exact same woman in the picture I was holding.
Sweat beaded on my forehead as I grappled with my thoughts. Could Roxanne really see things? Or did she imagine them? What was the connection between her and these things? Even if I'd rather ignore what she said, today's revelation gave me chills.
She was either psycho or a seer.
But white moon parks are not seers. She must be a psycho.
There was a light knock on my door before it was pushed open. I expected to see my sister but I was met with my Beta. He walked in and manoeuvred to my direction. “Hey, Alpha.”
“What do you want?” I demanded.
“I'm sorry to have intruded your solit—”
“Be direct, Miles, I haven't got all day,” I said.
“There's a letter.”
“Put it on my table.”
“It's from white moon,” he said.
White moon? What do they want this time ?
I shrugged. “Put it on my table. It's probably irrelevant.”
Or perhaps not.
Miles bowed and was about to walk out again but I stopped him. “Beta Miles, read out the letter. What do they have their sleeves this time?”
I had to make him to it. I was worried.
He hastily picked up the letter, broke the seal and glanced through it. It says; "We severed ties the last time you waged war but in the ties of Lunar Peak, I grant your request.”
I blinked in confusion. “The fuck? What request?”
Miles shook his head, bewilderment etched on his features. “I have no idea, Alpha.”
I put my cigar on the table and glanced through the letter. What the hell was happening? Why would white moon send me a letter about granting my request?”
My jaw hardened, “I would never write to white moon to ask for something. It's definitely someone else but who?”
The door opened and my sister walked in, smiling at me. “I did.”
***
I slammed my hand on the table as my sister sashayed to my direction, an ugly smile plastered on her face.“Brother”
I scoffed.
“I hope you show up in people's lives as much as you enter my room.”
“Smoking are we?” She said as her gaze shifted to the cigar on the table.
“Mind your business” I retorted.
She scrutinised me for a while. “You're not in a good mood I presume. Is it because of your mate?”
“Mate?” Miles repeated as he exchanged glances with me.
I gestured to the door, “Please excuse us Beta, I'll call for you when I need you.”
He glanced at us, bowed and left.
Selina sighed and sat on my sofa, “You really should watch your tone sometimes.”
“Are you insane? Are the odds against you?” I asked in fury.
“Whoa, whoa ,whoa. Do not talk to me in that tone,” she snapped.
“Why did you send a letter? What was the content of the letter you sent?” I demanded in a firm voice.
She scoffed. “Keep raising your voice and force the answers out of me.”
I snarled. “You know I do know how to get answers out of people. Do not make me be hard on you, Selina,” I warned.
She clapped her hands and stared at me in distaste. “One day you're Alpha and you suddenly decide you want to boss me around. You're still my little brother.”
“And I'm still Alpha!” I lashed. “And I demand an explanation. What was the content of the letter you sent to White Moon?”
She hissed. “It was about Roxanne.”
I turned around and grabbed her by the shoulders, “What about her?”
“Aren't you being too hard on her?”
My grip tightened, “That's not what I asked you.”
She whimpered, fear evident in her eyes. “I wrote to them about her health.”
Something snapped within me. My wolf. I was infuriated and I could hurt my sister. I was never myself when my wolf took over.
I flung her against the wall, “How dare you?” I raged.
“She's dying,” Selina cried out.
“Since when did you start worrying about Roxanne?”
Tears rolled down her cheek. “Since I knew she was your mate. I mean it doesn't make sense for Alpha. You know she's sick and she's disturbed and cuffing her wouldn't do any help.”
“And what do you suggest? The White moon pack?”
“ She needs medical care.”
“She gets that already,” I pointed out.
“There's no improvement. I mean you're not doing her any justice. Holding her hostage is embarrassing enough. You know how the pack members are. They would never accept a lunatic for Luna.”
“Roxanne is not a lunatic,” I muttered.
Selina scoffed, “I was expecting you to defend that and you didn't disappoint me.”
Anger rushed through my veins as I glared at my sister. My wolf was beginning to take control but I needed to slow down. I was disappointed, angered and aggravated, all at once.
“I'm sorry brother,” She pleaded.
“Oh yeah? You don't like her. You never did!”
“Still I can't let her die in our pack,” she said in a small voice. “Our physicians are trying to help her but they can't. She has people and they are the healers. Why not give them a chance. Then you can reject her after she's healed.”
“Get out Selina!”
She nodded, “Of course that's what you are. An ungrateful bastard. It's no wonder you were mom's favourite. You both never appreciated a thing I did.”
That was it. My patience had snapped.
I held her against the wall and punched her in the face, ignoring her cry of pain. Once Dante took over, I couldn't take over easily.
“You don't know anything about mom. You were never there,” I yelled.
“At least I didn't lock her up,” She yelled through sobs. “That's all you ever do. Lock women up and leave them to die! How much more blood do you want to have on your hands?”
I was numb. I couldn't hear my breathing or feel my heartbeat. Her words had struck a nerve but I couldn't hit her anymore. I was weak to the bones because of her statement.
I pushed open the door and threw her out. “Don't ever come here again.”
“Ready or not, tomorrow you have to see the white moon pack.”
