Chapter 75: Chapter 75
Horrified that she forgot such an important detail, Charlotte immediately picks up her phone and calls Azraiel.
“Are you at the packhouse?” She asks before he could say anything.
“Yeah. What’s wrong?” His voice is laced with worry at the panic he sensed in her voice.
“I want to talk about something. Can I come there?”
“No!” Charlotte is surprised by his answer but she keeps quiet. “I mean I am coming over to the house to pick some papers. Let’s talk at home!” and then he hangs up.
Though he didn’t say anything, she knows he is afraid. Afraid that she’d hurt others and then he’d have to hurt her. The packhouse is filled with women and children at this time and if Charlotte has one of her as she calls them ‘episodes’, then she might hurt innocent people.
She knows that the mate bond is the strongest but she also knows that Azraiel is logical. He’d never risk so many innocent lives for just one person and she didn’t want him to. If it were her in his place, she’d do the same.
Shaking her head at the thoughts in her mind, she closes her journal and decides to wait for Azraiel in the living room.
Ayleen is in her room so it’s quiet in the living room. Charlotte places the journal on the coffee table and sits down.
All the what-if scenarios race in her mind and she starts making weird-ass theories about Richard and the impact of his bite on her. She is in the middle of forming a theory about why Richard targeted her when the door opens and Azraiel walks in.
“Hey! What happened?” He rushes to her side and his eyes roam all over her to see if she is okay or not.
“I am fine!” She answers and asks him to sit down.
“You asked me to check the journal again and I did. I just realized something Azraiel!” She pauses so that she can control the panic in her voice.
“What is it?” Azraiel pushes when she doesn’t speak up for a few seconds.
“Richard turned into a white wolf, Azraiel!” She speaks up urgently as if it would her physically to keep it in.
Azraiel’s reaction isn’t what she expected it to be.
She expected him to be concerned, maybe shocked or she doesn’t know, but something. Azraiel just sat there looking at her as if this wasn’t news.
“W..Wait! You know this, don’t you?” she asks, shocked and embarrassed that he already knows something that put her in a frenzy.
Azraiel nods grimly. “I do. The first time you told about him turning into a white wolf, I started looking in right after that!”
“Did you find anything?” Charlotte sometimes forgets that he is the Alpha of the biggest pack in the Rysterbia for a fucking reason.
“No..!” He shakes his head. “There are only three Truebloods known to the werewolf world, Charlotte. When any wolf is granted the status of the Trueblood, it is mandatory for them to inform the Werewolf council and pass a brief test to confirm that they aren’t lying. The test is designed as such to be passed only by the Truebloods. When the first and only Trueblood vanished, a lot of wolves came forward and claimed to be Trueblood. The then King, in order to determine if they were actually telling truth designed a test that’d demonstrate their abilities as a Trueblood. To date, only three have passed the said test, including me. Telling the council not only registers them as werewolves but also helps the council keep track of the Truebloods. The council has been extremely cautious about the Truebloods since the tragedy of The Black Onyx pack.” He pauses to see if she is listening and she is.
“I know the other two Truebloods. None of them were in Rysterbia on the day you were bitten, Charlotte!” Charlotte gulps as it clicks.
“You mean, Richard is a Trueblood but hasn’t informed the council?” Charlotte asks, deriving it as the only conclusion.
Azraiel sighs and leans back. “Yeah, I am afraid that’s the case.”
“Then..Then what do we do?” Charlotte asks desperately.
“I have talked to the Head Coordinator. He has sent a lookout notice to every pack for a white wolf. Warriors are searching him and a team of the council is combing through all the events that took place in the past few years to see if there were any suspicious activities that we missed.” He explains.
Charlotte doesn’t say anything. There isn’t much to say. Even if they know that Richard might be a Trueblood, they have no way of finding him. They don’t know if it was his actual face or his real name and if he indeed is a Trueblood then he must have some or other abilities that we have no idea about.
“Do you, do you think whatever is happening with me, it’s because I was bitten by a Trueblood?” She asks hesitantly, afraid of the answer she knew in the back of her mind.
“Maybe” He answered but his eyes screamed “Yes”.
Charlotte gulped. What the hell are they going to do?
“Hey! Relax okay?” He takes her hand and slightly squeezes it. “We have come this far, we’ll make it to the end too.” He tries to assure her but she could see how this is hurting him too.
She smiles unwillingly at him. If he is willing to fight, then so is she.
“Do you want to meet my wolf?” Azraiel changes the subject and she is grateful.
Charlotte nods at him with a smile. “Yeah, I was wondering when you’d ask that.”
Hell, yeah! Her wolf screams excitedly and she smiles.
“Great! Tonight then!” Azraiel kisses her forehead and walks inside to pick up the papers from his office.
Charlotte leans back on the sofa and goes back to her thoughts.
If Richard is indeed a Trueblood, then he could have killed her in an instant….
Then why the hell he didn’t?
