Chapter 160: Chapter 160
Samantha pushes aside the stray strands of hair on Theo’s forehead. He looks so peaceful while sleeping, she thinks to herself as she takes in his serene face. She was currently in his bed, lying naked next to him. Ever since the shift, she has been sleeping here with him. For some reason, their relationship took a complete 360-degree turn. Sure, they were mates even before the shift but somehow it always felt like there was an invisible wall between them. That wall vanished into thin air with the shift.
They are the happiest they have ever been. Theo seeks her out at every possible moment he can. His love language is touch, she noticed. Even when they are in public, he would graze the sleeves of her dress, sometimes her hair to make his presence known, as if she would ever need a reminder.
Also, there’s that matter of Theo being the Beta of her pack. It was so surreal, the moment when Charlotte recognized Theo as her Beta and he recognized her as his Alpha. She couldn’t fathom what Alpha Azraiel must be feeling at that moment. Hurt, anger, betrayal or did he accept his fate?
She would never know because he would never say anything.
It has been taking a toll on Theo too. Alpha Azraiel is his best friend. They grew up together while training to run their pack. Never in his wildest dreams did he think that he would NOT be next to Alpha Azraiel.
She smooths her face when she sees him stir. He opens his eyes and as soon as he sees her face, his mouth breaks into a stunning smile.
“Morning.” His voice is scratchy.
Samantha smiles and leans to peck his cheek. “Good Morning! Pancakes or cereal?”
“You!” He grins and drags her to him. Samantha’s laugh echoes in the house.
The next hour seems to go by quickly as they make love and begin their morning. After breakfast which involves less eating food and more of kissing, they finally leave the house to work.
Since they found the names of their pack members in the old language in Alpha Charlotte’s mother’s journals, they have been trying to match them with the current member’s bloodlines. Most of the pack members are people who were adopted by their current parents or grew up on the streets with little to no information about their lineage. Yet, their names appear in the journal. Katya decoded some more of the letters yesterday. They found that the next few pages contain the names of ancestors of the current members, which means they might have been the original families of the pack that used to exist at that time. They are still to determine if this pack was an extension of descendants of the Black Onyx pack or a separate pack altogether but it is clear that the Black Onyx pack does play an important role in this history.
Both Theo and Samantha reach the woods and begins their tasks. All this while, Samantha’s mind wanders off to one person, Aunt Caitlyn!
Last night, Alpha Azraiel mindlinked Theo that she is due to visit the pack anytime in the next few days. Theo looked both afraid and ecstatic at the same time which she had no idea was possible! The conversation was still fresh in her head.
“What? Why do you look sad and happy at the same time?” She asked him curiously after he told her the news.
His answer was a lazy smile and half a minute of silence.
“She-she has been my mother too on more than one occasion. She seems to be strict and cold at the first glance but that’s just the outer shell. She is actually very warm and loving. It’s just that being an Alpha of the pack isn’t really an easy job. It’s been a while since I saw her.”
She nodded. “Okay, but why do you look sad?”
“I just wish she visited us at a better time. Not when we are on the verge of a possible war.”
Samantha couldn’t comment on that so she just kissed his worries away.
“IS she really strict though? I have heard that she is very cold and calculating!” Samantha asks out of curiosity as she leans back. The Alpha of the Golden Forest pack was rumoured to be lethal, dangerous and without a heart! She didn’t even know that the Alpha was a woman until recently. Everyone described the Alpha as so brutal and violent that it never occurred to them that the Alpha could be a woman! When she first came to know of this, it inspired Samantha to no end. She grew up in a pack where the eldest was Nicholas who himself was searching for someone to look up to. They only had the figures they had heard about to inspire and motivate them.
Theo laughs lightly.
“To others? Yes. To her family, No!” He pauses to peck her lips. “She considers me her family, so by default you are family too!”
Samantha’s heart filled with love and admiration for these people who are bound by love and not blood. She lost all hope of having a family someday and yet here she is. She just hopes that the Alpha of the Golden Forest pack accepts Samantha into her little family too!
It’s noon by the time Charlotte arrives.
“Hey!” She greets her as Samantha bows. She has asked her not to bow but she can’t help it.
“Heard about Aunt Caitlyn?” Charlotte asks Samantha.
She nods. “Are you nervous?” Aunt Caitlyn is closest to what a mother-in-law would be to Charlotte.
“Yep.” She pops the p. “I am so worried that she won’t like me.” She chews down on her lip.
Samantha understands her worries and almost says me too but then catches herself. “You’ll be fine! Theo tells me that she really warm and loving.” She tries to assure Charlotte as well as herself.
“Yeah.” Charlotte laughs. “Azraiel told me the same thing but I don’t think I can believe him.” She gives Samantha a long look. “Are you not nervous about meeting her?”
Samantha lets out a breath in relief. “Oh, I am! I am nervous too! I was just trying to be optimistic for the both of us.”
Charlotte chuckles at her answer.
“It’s okay! Let’s be nervous together!” Charlotte links her arm with Samantha’s and drags her to the drinks stand.
Samantha has no idea if Aunt Caitlyn will like her or not but she is pretty sure that Alpha Charlotte will always be more than an Alpha for her and Theo!
