Chapter 159: Chapter 159

Azraiel paced back and forth in his office, the late afternoon sun casting long shadows through the large windows. His mind buzzed with the recent discoveries about Charlotte’s pack and the disturbing link between the Blue Orchid Pack and the Black Onyx Pack. He needed answers, and there was only one person who could provide them: his Aunt Caitlyn, the keeper of their family's histories and secrets.

The phone rang a few times before a warm, yet slightly weary voice answered, "Hello, Azraiel. It’s been a while."

“Aunt Caitlyn,” Azraiel began, his tone a mix of urgency and respect, “I need your help. It’s about Charlotte’s pack and a connection I’ve discovered between the Blue Orchid Pack and the Black Onyx Pack.”

There was a brief pause on the other end, the kind that signaled deep thought. “Go on,” Caitlyn prompted, her voice now tinged with curiosity.

Azraiel took a deep breath, trying to gather his thoughts into a coherent explanation. “We’ve uncovered some old journals that suggest there’s a significant history between the Blue Orchid and Black Onyx packs. I think it might explain a lot about the current tensions we’re experiencing. But I need to know more, and I believe you have the knowledge we need.”

Caitlyn sighed softly, the kind of sigh that comes with the weight of many years and many stories. “Yes, the history between those two packs is long and complicated, intertwined with secrets and ancient grudges and friendships. It’s not something I can explain over the phone.”

Azraiel felt a surge of relief at her willingness to help, but he knew this was just the beginning. “Could you come to the pack? We need you here. Your insights could make all the difference.”

There was a moment of silence, and Azraiel could almost hear the gears turning in Caitlyn’s mind as she considered his request. “Alright, Azraiel,” she said finally. “I’ll come. Give me a few days to settle things here and I’ll be on my way.”

“Thank you, Aunt Caitlyn. I can’t express how much this means to me,” Azraiel said, the weight of the world momentarily lifting off his shoulders.

“Family looks out for each other,” Caitlyn replied with a hint of a smile in her voice. “I’ll see you soon.”

He hung up the phone, his thoughts a whirlwind of anticipation and concern. Soon, the secrets buried in the past would begin to unravel, and with his aunt’s guidance, he hoped to find the answers they desperately needed. As he looked out over his pack’s territory, he felt a renewed sense of determination. Whatever lay ahead, they would face it together.

Azraiel pushed open the door to the cozy dining room, the warm glow from the chandelier casting a soft light on the neatly set table. As he stepped in, his sister Ayleen looked up from her seat, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

"Ayleen, I have some news," Azraiel began, a small smile playing on his lips. "Aunt Caitlyn is going to visit us soon."

For a moment, there was silence. Then, like a dam breaking, Ayleen's face lit up with pure, unrestrained joy. "Aunt Caitlyn? Really?" she exclaimed, her voice a mixture of disbelief and delight. "I can't believe it! It's been so long!"

Azraiel chuckled, nodding. "Yes, really. And our cousins might be coming too."

Ayleen's excitement was palpable. She leaped from her chair and practically danced around the room. "I spent so much of my childhood with them," she gushed. "Remember all those summers at their pack? The bonfires, the late-night stories, the hunts? I can't wait to see them all again!"

Charlotte, who had been quietly listening from the kitchen doorway, smiled at Ayleen's enthusiasm.

Azraiel gives Charlotte a look that says ‘I told you so!’.

He mindlinked Charlotte before telling about Aunt Caitlyn’s arrival that Ayleen won’t be able to sit still after hearing this.

"This will be my first time meeting Aunt Caitlyn," Charlotte said, stepping into the room. Her calm demeanor was a perfect counterbalance to Ayleen's energetic excitement.

Azraiel walked over to Charlotte, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "Don't worry, you'll love her. Aunt Caitlyn looks strict and cold but she is very kind and just. And she’s been wanting to meet you ever since she heard about you."

Charlotte nodded, her eyes softening. "I’m looking forward to it. It sounds like she means a lot to both of you."

"She does," Azraiel agreed, his voice warm with affection. "She’s always been a second mother to us, especially after Mom and Dad passed away."

Ayleen nodded vigorously, her excitement still bubbling over. "She took us in without a second thought. She’s always been there for us. Oh, it is going to be amazing."

As the three of them continued to prepare for the evening, the air buzzed with anticipation and warmth. The promise of a reunion with Aunt Caitlyn and the introduction of Charlotte to a beloved family member made this dinner one to look forward to. And in that moment, the small dining room seemed to swell with the love and memories of family, both old and new.
