Chapter 132: Chapter 132
Caleb’s eyes move to Azraiel as he enters the hospital room.
“How are you feeling?” Azraiel asks the young boy as he sits down on the chair on the right side of the bed.
“Surprisingly good!” Azraiel nods.
He does look good…or more like healthy. Even his aura seemed to change. He feels stronger…too strong for Azraiel’s liking!
“I don’t have to stay here, do I?” He asks sceptically.
“No…” Azraiel shakes his head. “Our doctor is just performing some tests to ensure that you are healthy and there is nothing wrong. Once the test result comes you are free to leave.”
Caleb nods.
“So…What happened?” His face looks serious as he asks the question he has been wondering ever since he woke up.
“What is the last thing you remember?” Azraiel asks the same question he asked Charlotte.
“Sitting on the floor as Alana and Katya performed some kind of spell.”
“And…?” Azraiel squints his eyes when Caleb stops. Surely he remembers being burned by fire, there’s no way that he would forget the fire.
“And?” Caleb’s jaw locks.
Azraiel makes a face.
Okay…he’ll have to spell it out for him then.
“Do you remember being on fire?” He asks directly.
The straight expression on Caleb’s face falters at the mention of fire.
He looks away in disbelief.
“That really happened?” I-I just thought that I was hallucinating.” He says horrified.
Azraiel frowns.
“So you don’t remember being on fire or you just didn’t feel it?” Azraiel doesn’t understand. Before Charlotte entered the scene, his body was already on fire. He’d have to know it was real, right?
“I-I remember it...I mean I didn’t feel the pain but I remember the heat...the blinding yellow-orange light…Alana and Katya’s horrified faces…but I really didn’t feel anything…it-it just didn’t feel like I was on fire. Yes, the heat felt like it would burn me…but I didn’t get burned. My mind was kind of fuzzy during the spell, I think.”
“Fuzzy, why do you think that?” Azraiel questions.
“I-I saw Charlotte during the spell.”
“Charlotte?” Azraiel frowns again.
“Yeah…when the spell started, it was all fine but as their chants grew louder, I sort of started seeing Charlotte in the woods with other pack members instead of the dungeon around me. It was like I was present in the woods along with them but they couldn’t see me and I had no way of communicating with them...like a ghost.”
Something lights up in Azraiel’s head when he hears Caleb.
“Did you call Charlotte for help?”
“No…” Caleb shakes his head. “I didn’t call for anyone’s help but I started feeling suffocated…like I couldn’t breathe.”
Caleb explains. Azraiel feels bad about probing as the look on Caleb’s face is painted with the helplessness he felt at that moment.
“I think your wolf called out to Charlotte for help,” Azraiel states what he thinks might have happened.
“Charlotte?” Caleb asks confused.
“Yeah…She heard someone calling for help in the woods and her wolf dragged her to the dungeons where Katya and Alana were performing the spell on you. She saved you from the fire by performing some another spell and then she fainted.”
Worry instantly comes on Caleb’s face when he hears that Charlotte fainted.
“Is she alright? She is not hurt right?” He asks hurriedly.
“No, she isn’t hurt. She is fine and awake.” Azraiel assures him.
Hmm…definitely their wolves are connected…!
Caleb relaxes a bit.
“So, her witch side emerged?” Caleb asks softly.
“Yeah…”
“Dr. Humphrey is performing some tests. If she clears you to leave, then you can. But, before I allow you to stay with Charlotte’s other pack members I want to ensure that you are not a Trueblood and a danger to anyone here.”
Caleb nods.
“I’ll see you in a few hours. If you feel okay by then, I want you to shift into your wolf so that my doubts are cleared.” Azraiel says as he stands up.
“Okay, no problem.” Caleb agrees.
“Take care!” Azraiel gives him a brief nod and leaves the room.
Azraiel walks straight to Dr. Humphrey’s office.
“Alpha.” She bows when she sees him at the door.
“Please, have a seat.”
Azraiel nods and sits.
“Are his results back?” He gets straight to business.
“Yes, they are…but I’d like to keep him under observation for a few more hours.” She pauses.
“His blood tests turned out to be normal...just like an average werewolf…but the way he has no injuries is not normal. He recovered unbelievably quickly…even for a normal werewolf…almost like an…” her voice fades as her face scrunches.
“Almost like an Alpha?” Azraiel finishes her sentence.
Dr. Humphrey sighs and nods. “Almost like an Alpha.”
Azraiel nods.
“I want you to keep this information to yourself for the time being…I don’t want to create panic in the pack.” Azraiel orders and requests at the same time.
“Yes, Alpha.” Dr. Humphrey immediately answers.
“Tell me immediately when he is good to go.” He says as he gets up and moves to leave the room. “And please, keep an eye on him for me.”
“Yes, Alpha. I will.” Dr. Humphrey assures him.
When Azraiel leaves the building, Theo is still standing out there.
“You were right. He’s changed.” Azraiel mindlinks when he gets closer to him.
Theo nods.
“Do you remember what we talked about him when we first found him?” Azraiel asks.
Theo says “Yeah.”
“Well, I think it could be true. Given the circumstances, there is a high possibility that he was born to someone who turned into an Alpha when Emmanuel Reed bit them.” Azraiel voices his conclusion.
“If that’s true…then it would mean that there are two Alpha’s in Charlotte’s pack…Charlotte and Caleb.” Theo’s face turns grim as he mindlinks Azraiel.
“I don’t want him anywhere near Charlotte until I know for sure that he isn’t here to hurt Charlotte. The claim for Alpha position would lead to a contest and that’s the last thing I want before her shift.” Azraiel says.
“I suggest asking him to turn into the wolf so that you can determine how strong he is…and keep him separated from others till the shift.” Theo says.
Azraiel agrees. “That’s what I had in mind. Keep an eye on him till he is discharged and then immediately bring him to the clearing in the woods.
Theo nods. “Yes, Alpha.”
Azraiel leaves the place and walks towards the packhouse.
He asked to see Kira in his office before visiting Caleb.
When he enters his office she is already waiting for him. “Alpha.”
“Sit.” He orders.
“How is it going?” After Charlotte fainted, he asked Kira to oversee everything in her pack.
“It’s a mess.” Kira says it as it is. “Some wolves who are most likely to turn into werewolves don’t want to be a werewolf in this world. There are some people who want to live like witches in the human world but they are most likely to become a witch tomorrow here. It’s the same for almost every category of supernaturals.”
Azraiel sighs.
“We don’t have any choice here. We can’t control the outcome of their shift in just one day.”
Kira sighs. “I know… but everyone is feeling so helpless. They have no control over who they are gonna be after tomorrow…” She pauses. “Nevertheless, some of them actually want to stay in the werewolf world as werewolves…so at least that’s good.”
Azraiel nods.
“Here’s the list of people who would stay here.” She passes on a list of people likely to turn into werewolves, werecats and weretigers.
“Make sure the necessary arrangements are up to the mark. Call me if anything comes up.” He dismisses her with an order.
Almost an hour goes by as Azraiel makes several calls for help and assistance.
He just leaned back in his chair when he heard the knock on his door.
It’s Ayleen…but…
“Come in.”
Ayleen opens the door and walks in. Behind her is a deathly pale guy with black hair.
His wolf wants to snap his teeth at him but Azraiel calms him down. He needs this man right now.
“Azraiel, this is Victor, the vampire I told you about.”
