Chapter 131: Chapter 131

Azraiel rubs his palm over his face. As soon as he heard that Charlotte was unconscious he rushed through the woods to reach her. Katya and Alana were trying to remove the magic from Caleb when his body lit on fire. At that very moment, Charlotte reached there and started chanting something which ultimately stopped the fire. To everyone’s surprise, Caleb doesn’t even have a scratch on his body.

Azraiel carried Charlotte to their home where she is currently lying on their bed. He is sitting beside his mate waiting for her to wake up.

Seeing her like that, lying unconscious on the floor made his heart writhe in pain. He has no idea how he is going to watch her complete the shift tomorrow. He still remembers how much effort it took to keep it together when his sister shifted for the first time.

What happened today has no doubt put several doubts in everyone’s mind. He too is concerned now. If Charlotte really shifts into a witch tomorrow, it might become hard for her to continue to live with his pack as she belongs here. Of course, they’ll try to help her as much as they can but the very nature of a werewolf and a witch is different. No matter how hard one tries, he can’t completely make her feel at ease.

He closes his eyes and leans back resting his head on the headboard.

“Oh Luna…please make her stay. No matter what…please let her be with me!” He silently prays.

“Azraiel?” Her croaked voice makes him open his eyes.

“You are awake.” He sighs in relief and places a kiss on her forehead.

“What happened?” She tries to get up while he pours her a glass of water.

“Careful…here.” He hands her the glass once she is settled and is now sitting.

He watches her closely as if she would vanish if he took his eyes off her.

He keeps the glass on the table once she finishes drinking the water.

“What do you remember?” He quietly asks.

“I- I was with my pack…they were coming to me regarding the whole shifting situation…Nicholas and I were talking after that…about how to manage everything tomorrow….and then…”

She suddenly stops and furrows her brows.

“then…?” he gently pushes.

“Then…I felt like someone was calling me…for help…?” She sounds confused.

“Help…? Did you recognize the voice?” He asks.

“No…she shakes her head. It was like the distorted voice from the woods when I first entered the forest.

Azraiel nods.

“Katya and Alana were trying to strip the magic from Caleb. Caleb’s body lit up on fire when they were about to finish the spell. You entered the dungeons and saved him.”

“Wh-what?” Charlotte looks shocked as hell by the revelation.

“Yeah...it was your witch side. I think it’s because Caleb is part of your pack. When he was in danger, the connection between him and you pulled you toward him. You chanted a spell to calm the fire with your blood and then you fainted.” Azraiel narrates what Katya told him.

Charlotte is quiet but he can see her trying to find meaning in all this.

“If…I am not saying I will…but if I turn into another creature tomorrow, will the pack let me stay here?” Charlotte abruptly asks.

“Of course, they will.” Azraiel answers without missing a beat.

They’ll have to! He thinks to himself.

“Do you remember your promise?” She asks another question.

For a second he is blank but then he sees her expression full of love and trust.

“I do.” He takes her palm and plants a kiss on it.

“I know you are worried and scared…so let me make this easy for you.” She gives him a pained smile.

“You don’t have to fulfill it. You can do it after the shift.”

Azraiel can’t look her in the eye. He is ashamed.

He promised her that he’d not let her shift without marking her…and yet here they are. When he made that promise, he thought he would have more information and would be certain that his mark won’t put her in danger.

But now….it’s her shift tomorrow and he still hasn’t found any solution.

He gulps.

“Charlotte…if during the shift, anything happens….I want your permission to mark you then.” He says as his throat logs up with tears.

She looks confused so he explains, “Katya and Daniel are of the opinion that you’ll become stronger with my mark on you but I feel that your human body might be incapable of bearing the pain right now. But if anything happens tomorrow that requires my mark on you, then I don’t want to do it without your permission.”

Charlotte nods. “You have my permission.” She doesn’t even take a second to respond.

Azraiel breathes in relief.

“Just take some rest, okay?” Azraiel says and plants a kiss on her forehead.

Charlotte nods and watches with a teary smile as he leaves the room.

Azraiel is all too aware of the turmoil she is facing. She is scared too but puts a brave front for him and he is grateful. He has no idea what he will do if he sees her breaking.

Sighing, he makes his way to the medical wing.

Caleb was taken to the medical wing immediately. A few minutes ago, Theo mindlinked him to tell him that he is awake.

Azraiel just hopes that Caleb’s original form can shed some light on the upcoming events. He is the only one who was protected by the magic. All of the other pack members were just unaware and clueless about their original form.

When he reaches the medical wing, Theo is outside looking at the ground.

Azraiel’s brows furrow at the look of sadness on his Gamma’s face…and then he suddenly remembers….It’s not just his mate who’ll go through the shift tomorrow.

Ugh…Azraiel’s an ass! He forgot that he wasn’t the only one worried!

Theo’s mate, Samantha belongs to Charlotte’s pack. A lot of things will change for her too. That and the fact that she will decide whether to join his pack or not after the shift must be worrying him.

“Hey!” He carefully approaches him.

“Hey!” Theo breathes.

“Caleb is awake. We haven’t talked to him other than to ask if he is okay.”

Azraiel nods.

“He looks a bit different though.” Theo crunches his brows and squints.

“Different how?” Azraiel asks curiously.

“He looks….more confident if that makes any sense. It’s like the magic made him underconfident and meek or something. He hasn’t said anything but I don’t know…there’s a look in his eyes that I can’t comprehend!”

Azraiel lets his words sink in and nods.

“Are you okay?” Azraiel asks Theo.

Theo looks up, surprised at the question.

“Y-yeah.” He stutters. “I am good… just a bit worried about Charlotte and Samantha.” Azraiel nods

.

“Let’s hope for the best, okay?” He pats his shoulder awkwardly. God…he has never been good at this.

Theo takes the hint and smiles.

“Yeah…you too, Azraiel!”

You too!
