Chapter 113: Chapter 113

Charlotte sighs and leans back. Azraiel joins her in the bed. It’s 4 in the morning and the sky is still dark.

“You okay? “He asks as she puts her head on his shoulder.

“No.” Charlotte gulps to control her tears. “I am not.”

Charlotte and Azraiel have been up all night trying to figure out what to do with those hundreds of people out there. Some of them wanted to go home while the others just had no clue what to do. Even if half of them wanted to go, it was still a great number of people and making living arrangements for them was no easy task at all. Theo, Matt, Ayleen, Katya, and many other warriors worked all night to arrange accommodations for them. Azraiel asked the Head Coordinators permission to put them near his pack and he agreed. All night, they just worked to get things done and make sure that there is no danger lurking around.

Tons and Tons of questions… unanswered questions swimming in their heads…

“It’s okay! I am here. We’ll figure it out.” She feels him press a kiss on her head.

“Mhmm… “She closes her eyes. This night has changed so much… She was worried about her shift…. Yes… but now… she is fucking terrified.

“I’ll have to talk to my pack in the morning. There is so much that needs to be figured out.”

“Yeah.”

“Come On! Get some sleep. We have a long day ahead of us.” Azraiel cuddles her to his chest and as she listens to his heartbeat she feels like everything will be fine.. .even though she has no idea how, she believes she’ll be fine.

“Go home.” Theo turns around to see his mate. He gives her a look that says “Nope. Not Happening.”

“No seriously. I am fine. We are all safe. Besides, I’ll call you if anything happens.” Samantha says looking genuinely concerned for him.

Oh! How he has longed for this. Someone who cares about him a little more than they care about others.

“No. There are all sorts of people here. Vampires, witches, werecats and whatnot…I can’t leave you here.”

“Look, these people are here for Alpha. They don’t want to hurt anyone here. And Also they won’t be going anywhere until the Alpha’s shift which is just around the corner. So please, go home and get some rest. We’ll meet in the morning anyway.” Samantha tries to convince him to leave.

Theo looks at her face memorizing all the details. “Come with me to my pack.” Before she can object he shops her. “No… l am not asking you to join my pack but you can stay there as a guest until Luna’s shift. You’d be safe there and my mind would be at ease.”

“Theo..” Samantha smiles. “Just like you are doing your duty for your pack I have to do mine. These are uncertain times and my pack needs me now more than ever.” She tries to reason.

Theo puts his hands in his pockets and looks at the ground.

“So you won’t come with me?”

“Not now.”

Theo nods in understanding though his wolf is not feeling so understanding right now.

“Can I at least get a hug?” Though Theo’s question is a simple one Samantha just looks at him like he has said something he should not have.

“I-uh..”

Theo smiles but doesn’t wait for her to continue. He steps forward and just hugs her tightly.

God! She feels perfect in his arms. The warmth from her body makes something somersault in his gut. She doesn’t respond immediately but a after a few seconds, her arms make their way to his back. He buries his nose in her hair, inhaling all that he can. Theo doesn’t want to lose touch but he has to go home.

Begrudgingly he leans make but his arms don’t leave her waist.

“Take care…Our warriors will be here for safety but if anything happens just call me. I’ll be here in a heartbeat.” He looks into her eyes.

“I know. And-uh-get some sleep okay? You need to take care of yourself.” She says and her cheeks start to turn red.

He can smell the effect of his touch on her, but he says nothing. She looks embarrassed and he doesn’t want her to feel uncomfortable.

“Okay.” Theo places a kiss on her forehead.

“Bye!”

“Bye.” Theo feels her eyes on him till he is out of her sight and for the first time in over 10 years he lets his heart thrum loudly and wildly without thinking about the reason.

This reason…he doesn’t mind her at all!

This morning feels different. Kira thinks to herself as she sips on her coffee and stares into the woods. Her eyes involuntarily go to the scars on her arm.

They are healed now, though the deeper cuts still hurt sometimes. But, she feels much better now, physically.

Most importantly, she feels like she needs a distraction.

Alpha hasn’t allowed her to work since she almost dies. Then the rejection thing just made things worse. This is the longest Kira has been without doing any work and it’s not good.

Not good at all. Her work has always served as a welcome distraction for her. She has put all her time and energy into her role as the Head Warrior so that she doesn’t have any time and energy left to think about other things.

With her work on hold, she feels like she is spiraling down.

She heard what happened last night. One of the warriors just panicked when they saw all colors of eyes across the lake and accidentally mindlinked her instead of Matt.

She is glad he did.

This could serve as the perfect distraction. With so many species together in a small area, there is a lot of work to do.

Kira takes her cup downstairs and puts it in the sink.

“Are you going out?” She turns to see Ayleen leaning across the counter.

“yeah.”

“Where?” She narrows her eyes at Kira.

“Work.” Ugh. Why does she have to explain herself to this young girl?

“Kira…. “Ayleen-gives her a look.

“Look… let me talk to Alpha. Okay…? I won’t work if he says no."

Ayleen sighs and unwillingly agrees.

Kira takes her phone and walks out. She has a feeling he won’t refuse. Ever since she could remember, Alpha Azraiel has always been the understanding one. Plus, he needs her right now. With Luna’s Shift coming up, they already have so much on their plate. Given the circumstances, he’d appreciate one more helping hand.

“Alpha?” She knocks on the door of his office in the packhouse.

“Come in.”

“Kira, Is everything alright? Lwasnt expecting you here. “Alpha Azraiel asks her as he closes the book he had been reading.

“yes, Alpha. Everything is goods-uh I wanted to ask you something.”

“Uh. –huh. Go ahead.”

“Can't come back to work from today?”

She waits anxiously as he arches his brows in question” From today?”

“yes, Alpha. Please." She makes what she hopes looks like a pleading face.

"I’ll be honest. I don’t want you to start working just yet. Bat…. You look desperate and frustrated-so I’ll allow it” Kira beams as he gives her permission. “But”. Kira stops smiling “But?” She asks. “You can’t work like you used to”!I want you to work for fixed hours. Take breaks and take care of your health. I see you working for even a minute after your fixed hours I won't allow you to work from the next day."

Kira gulps” Yes Alpha. “the looks serious.

“Alpha nods at her and asks her to sit. “Are you aware of the situation at hand?”

“Yes, I am.” She answers.

“Okay…. You have been the head warrior for years. No one knows the border parameters like you do. The other species are camped across the lake. That area is safe from the side where the lake is but as to the other directions, we need to ensure that they don’t encounter any danger.”

Alpha Azraiel pauses and leans forward. “The information that I am going tell you now is confidential. Only Charlotte, Theo and l know about this for now.” Kira nods and her mind instantly enters warrior mode.

“Last night… when we were making arrangements for the species, we heard something disturbing”, She looks at his face carefully. The looks stressed.

“Theo and I heard two men talking They haven’t turned yet but it looks like they are going to be vampires.”

Kira nods at him to continue.

“One of them saw a white wolf while coming to Charlotte.
