Chapter 105: Chapter 105
Charlotte feels her stomach drop as Azraiel and her walk towards the woods. They were sitting in Azraiel’s office at the packhouse with Daniel when suddenly Azraiel started gasping.
Daniel and Charlotte were shocked to see him in pain. She rushed to him and gave him some water while rubbing his back.
“Azraiel..What happened?” Charlotte asked him.
“Kira..” He gulped. “I think Josh rejected her.”
Charlotte gasped involuntarily.
SO much pain!
Azraiel stood up, his eyes showing the anger he was feeling. He picked up his phone and called someone. Her best guess was that he was calling Josh.
And she was right …
“Who the hell do you think you are?” Azraiel shouted in the phone and Daniel quietly went out of the room.
“Right…right….You had no right… absolutely NO RIGHT to put her through that pain….that too so all of a sudden. Do you have any idea what she has been through in the past few days?” Azraiel was red in the face, his eyes glaring into space as he walked back and forth, working himself up.
“Yeah..is that so? Well…” Suddenly, he fell quiet. His face was set hard. “In that case, I Azraiel Michaelson, Alpha of the Blue Orchid pack banish you, Josh Taylor from my pack.”
As soon as he utters those words, Charlotte feels a piercing headache coming up. It’s most probably the pack wondering about the broken link, she thinks to herself.
Azraiel cuts the call and slams the phone on the table.
He is breathing heavily and his whole body is shaking in anger.
His eyes suddenly look unfocused and she knows he is mindlinking someone.
After a few seconds, he looks at Charlotte and says, “We should go to Kira.”
Charlotte nods and follows him out. She doesn’t dare say anything the whole way, only looking at him, again and again, to see if he is okay. She didn’t know Josh but what he has done just makes her blood rile up.
How the hell can someone be so cruel? That too to his own mate?
Azraiel’s anger is justifiable. Kira was fighting for her life just a few days ago and now this. As if the pain Josh has given her wasn’t enough, he took her right to reject him. After all she has been through, she should have been the one to reject him and not the other way round.
Charlotte spots Theo standing there with an equally pissed-off expression.
As they near him, he looks at Azraiel and mutters, “I’m going to kill him. He shouldn’t be alive, Azraiel!” He snarls.
“Killing him won’t ease her pain, Theo.” Azraiel says but it looks like he means otherwise.
Theo looks up at the sky and closes his eyes. He takes a few deep breaths and opens his eyes.
“Where is she?” Azraiel asks.
“At the lake!” Theo says and then the three of them walk to the lake.
When they reach the lake, Charlotte is stunned by the scene in front of her.
Kira is sitting on the ground looking broken yet somehow keeping it together. On her left is a small brown wolf curled up at her feet. On her right is a sandy brown wolf, slightly bigger in size, which is cuddling against Kira.
Ayleen and Matt!
Charlotte feels herself smile through tears.
“Charlotte…” She looks at Azraiel. “I’m going to shift too.”
She nods at him and watches as he and Theo go behind the bushes. She hears the rustling of the clothes, followed by the sound of bones snapping.
A few seconds later, two wolves emerge from behind the bushes. The first one is a grey wolf slightly bigger than Matt’s.
Theo!!
He looks vicious and she can only imagine how he must be feeling.
The next to come out is a large white wolf that she has seen before.
Her mate!
The Alpha of the pack walks out of the bushes with firmness and every bit of authority. Both of them walk towards Kira. Theo goes behind Kira and rubs his nozzle against her back, comforting her. As soon as he does that, Charlotte notices a crack in Kira’s composure. She closes her eyes as if unable to stand to keep them open.
Azraiel’s wolf walks in front of her and licks the tears falling from her eyes. That does it for Kira!
The Alpha’s presence makes her composure crumble. As if someone pulled a plug, she breaks down. Streams of tears start falling from her eyes and her cries pierce through Charlotte’s heart.
The four wolves snuggle closer, forming a circle around Kira. They lick her tears away, and rub themselves against her, giving her their warmth and love. At one point she puts her arms around Azraiel and Ayleen’s necks and just buries her head there. She cries putting her head on theirs and they whine!
Charlotte starts crying too. She can’t help it. There is so much pain in front of her and yet…
Yet it is beautiful.
The picture in front of her is one that of…
Pain…
Heartbreak…
Solidarity…
Love!
Charlotte doesn’t even realize that she has started walking. Maybe it’s her wolf pushing her to be with her pack or her own maternal instincts rushing to ease the pain of her loved ones.
She walks towards the pack and puts her arms around them. She feels Azraiel lean into her touch. As Charlotte puts her palm on Kira’s head, gently comforting her, Kira looks at her with pain in her eyes and squeezes her eyes once. Charlotte’s tears match Kira’s.
They huddled there together, comforting Kira for some time. Her cries know no bounds. The only sound is that of her crying and the wolves whining for her to stop. As her cries grow louder, the wolves disband for a moment. They look at each other and turn their heads up.
A shiver runs down Charlotte’s spine as she hears what is to come.
A united howl echoes through the air.
Not only do the four wolves howl in pain, but it seems like the entire pack has joined them. Goosebumps appear on her skin as another howl pierces the silence of the woods.
Mourning
They are mourning.
For the pain of Kira. For the injustice served to her.
For the member, they had to banish.
For the memories, this day will leave.
Despite the good weather, she feels like the sky has darkened, resonating with the gloomy environment around her.
After that howl, she hears someone approaching. She looks to her right to find two wolves padding towards them. Soon, more wolves follow. One my one, it looks like that the entire pack is coming to the lake. Within minutes the green of the grass disappears and is occupied by the wolves.
Red, brown, grey!
They all stand in a circle around them. One behind another, forming a packed circle. As everyone gathers there, there is silence for a few minutes. The only sound coming is that of Kira’s cries.
Suddenly each and every wolf turns their head in the air and howls.
The sound is so loud that she feels the vibrations shake her. They howl together for her and Charlotte feels herself tear up again. Her wolf feels the pain and cries with her.
As the wolves continue howling, she notices red eyes looking at them. She has no idea how she could see so far and so clearly. But she watches as the red-eyed wolves appear on the edge of the lake and their eyes clash with hers.
When the next howl echoes, it is louder than any other.
The red-eyed wolves are howling with them!
