Chapter 103: Chapter 103

Azraiel observes Daniel Scott keenly as he sips on his coffee. He has known this man all his life and yet there is so much about him that he doesn’t know. For starters, who is his mate? Does he have a family of his own? How the hell does he knows everything he isn’t supposed to know?

Today, he introduced Charlotte to him as his mate and he just said that he already knows. Upon asking the ‘how’ he said that it’s a long story.

Right now, Charlotte, Azraiel and Daniel Scott were sitting in his office at the packhouse. He has been talking about useless topics for the past hour, clearly trying to avoid narrating the so called ‘long story’.

Also, the reason of his visit to the pack is still unclear since he hasn’t discussed anything that could be termed as ‘urgent’ which clearly his visit was.

“So…Don’t get me wrong. I love that you are here, but you never visit any pack. Why now?” Azraiel asks as he watches him lower his cup on the table.

“Why…Can I not visit you? I know I haven’t visited any pack in my term but I’m thinking about changing it now.” He answers, his eyes dancing in a way that Azraiel very clearly knows the meaning of.

Daniel Scott has crucial information and he is now playing with Azraiel.

“Of course you can visit me anytime. I think it’ll be great if you would visit the packs every once and now. However, the timing of your visit is surprising.” Azraiel narrows his eyes at him.

“Mhmm…I know.” He says and turns towards Charlotte. “So, Charlotte, how are you liking it here?”

“Um-It’s great. Everyone has been so supportive and helping that it feels like I have known them for years.” Charlotte answers with a smile.

“Well, I am glad that you like it here.” He says, looking at the floor. “Have you met your new pack?”

“Yeah..On the day of Initiation ceremony.”

“Oh..I am not talking about Azraiel’s pack. I am asking about YOUR pack.” His words make Azraiel freeze.

What the hell did he just say.

“M-my pack?” Charlotte stutters and looks at Azraiel questioningly.

“Yeah. I gather that you know about them. Don’t you?” Daniel Scott’s brown eyes are dead serious and his face doesn’t reveal any emotions.

“I-I do.” Charlotte answers.

“How do you know about them?” Azraiel leans forward. This shit is getting serious.

“Again…. One would assume that you know me, Azraiel. Those wolves have been living in this territory for years. They were bound to be found one day. The people at the King’s palace have known about their existence since 1970s.” He answers and his tone suggests that Azraiel is a fool for asking such stupid questions.

“If that’s the case then why have you not officially declared them a pack yet?” Azraiel questions the man he thought he knew.

“Because of who they are.” Daniel looks at Charlotte. “I’m guessing you too are confused as to what you are?”

Charlotte nods.

“The King’s palace has faced the same problem for years. They are not just werewolves. It’s clear from their red eyes. But we also have no idea who they really are. So, we can’t really declare them as a pack because they aren’t just werewolves. Also, we can’t disclose their existence because it would create panic amongst the wolves. A species amongst the werewolves is bound to invoke fear.” He explains and he does make sense.

“Do you know who the Head is..the person who has been giving information to them?” Charlotte asks curiously.

“No.” He shakes his head. “I’ve been trying to track that man for years now. I think it is someone who doesn’t live in the werewolf world or else he would have been traced by now.”

“But how could he know so much about our world if he doesn’t live here?” Azraiel asks.

“I don’t know.” Daniel shrugs.

“If the King knew about them, then you definitely know who was their Alpha?” Charlotte asks.

“No. I don’t.” Daniel flat out says and leans back in his chair. “You see, we knew about their existence at the King’s palace, but we have never been able to track them. They’d vanish every time the King’s men tried to capture them. So, we know they exist, we know that someone is helping them but we have no idea who their Alpha was. All I know is that you are their new Alpha.” He says, looking directly at Charlotte.

“And how do you know that?” Azraiel asks.

“I have my eyes and ears in the woods, you know.” He arches his brows. “I can’t rely solely on the information provided by the packs. I know for a fact that every Alpha’s loyalty lies with his pack and not with me.” Azraiel knows he is talking about him but he lets the remark slide.

“Can you please just tell us what and how you know about this?” Azraiel asks irritated.

Daniel sighs and leans back.

“Fine.”

Charlotte and Azraiel are on the edge of their seats as he begins.

“Twenty-three years ago, these red eyed wolves were attacked. Now, I don’t know who attacked them and why, but after that attack, a lot of things changed. I was made the Head Coordinator and before that I had no idea that these creatures even existed. Just after the fire at King’s Palace, I received the information that these wolves were on the run. But that’s not the only information I received.” Daniel pauses, most probably reminiscing about the time.

“I started receiving letters.” Daniel looks at Azraiel and Charlotte.

“From the Head.”

Charlotte and Azraiel look at each other in shock.

The Head?

“He..He wanted me to pass on his messages to those red-eyed wolves. I have no idea why he chose me, but when I asked about it he straight out ignored me and didn’t answer my question. I was skeptical at first but then I thought screw it. Let’s see if he is right or not. I conveyed the first information of attack on them asked them to move from there. I was too sure that it won’t happen. I thought how the hell could anyone attack them if no one knows about their existence and those who know aren’t interested in harming them. But it did happen.” He looks at Charlotte.

“The attack happened and so did each and every thing that he mentioned in his subsequent letters. To track him, I started forming an army of my own, whose sole task would be to find this man. There isn’t an inch of the werewolf territory that we haven’t scoured in the search of this Head. My men have been looking for him for years. After all these efforts, I’ve come to some conclusions.”

Daniel sighs and leans back.

“The well-wisher of these creatures is not a werewolf, or maybe not just a werewolf. He doesn’t live in the werewolf world or rather…he can’t be seen if he does. I have a feeling that somehow magic and witches are involved in this case, which has prevented us from finding him out. But now here is the fucking question.” He looks at Azraiel.

“The werewolf world has been concealed by magic for years and we keep on doing so every few years to strengthen that magic. Then how the hell is this trickery happening? The magic is old and strong. It can’t be bypassed by just about anyone.”

Azraiel instantly looks at Charlotte.

Charlotte did by pass the magic.

“I know what you are thinking. I know she crossed the woods by breaking the magic barriers. That makes me think that she might have some of the magic in her lineage.” Daniel catches his gaze.

“If that Head is powerful enough to break the magic barriers then why does he needs your help to convey the messages to the red eyed wolves?” Charlotte asks quietly.

“Exactly my fucking point!” Daniel throws his hands in the air.

“I’ve been going mad for years thinking about his guy who somehow knows more about what’s going to happen next in the werewolf world than me. He is always one step ahead. Informing me about the future events that I have no idea are going to happen.”

Charlotte sighs and leans back. “Why does every story comes to an unresolved end like this?” Azraiel can understand her frustration.

“Oh, this is not the end.” Daniel says amusedly. His eyes sparkle as he speaks and in that instant Azraiel knows that he knows more than he is letting on.

“I didn’t just sit while the Head conveyed his messages through me. I started researching about the red-eyed wolves. I began observing them, their shifts, their behavior, their appearances.” Daniel looks at Charlotte.

“And here’s what I found. Yours is a rare species, Charlotte. Now I don’t know if you are a pure blood or not but this species didn’t exist before the 1970s. My best guess is that the species was born due to some experiment that never took place after that. But the species is something that strictly doesn’t fall in any of the defined species. I have never had the chance of watching them with my own eyes but I have studied various accounts by people who have seen them but didn’t quite understand what they were seeing. They have all described abilities like vanishing without a trace, no smell, extraordinary speed and so on. These are not the traits of a normal werewolf." Daniel says and Charlotte and Azraiel look at each other, just one look enough for them to communicate what they were thinking.

“Now, I still don’t know what they are, but I know they are not just werewolves.”

Charlotte leans forward and asks the question on her mind. “Nicholas said that he didn’t know I was Azraiel’s mate when he dropped me off near this pack. How did you know that I am his mate?”

Daniel chuckles. “When the Head told me that there is going to be a woman in the woods who needs to be dropped off near the Blue Orchid Pack and that Azraiel will keep her safe, I was shocked. You see, your mate here,” he gestures towards Azraiel, “isn’t the friendliest Alpha in the world. So it was shocking that he would keep you safe without knowing you, that too when you were a human. So, I pulled out something that I never dreamt I’d refer to.”

Daniel’s eyes have that spark that a kid has when he is about to tell something he thinks is cool.

“Years ago, Azraiel’s mother visited the King’s palace and the Royal astrologer and psychic predicted something. Something we heard and forgot about.”

Azraiel leans forward, interested in this piece about himself.

“He actually wrote it down in the form of a prophecy. Unfortunately, I have only three lines from the prophecy since the rest of it got burned down in the fire.”

What the hell, Azraiel thinks to himself.

There is a prophecy about him and he has no idea!

“Here, Read it.” Daniel hands Azraiel a small paper, old in texture and burnt at the edges.

Azraiel quietly reads it and can feel his heart thumping in his chest.

“The second of the pure bloods

Will find the bitten flower

The Queen of the Blue Orchids…”
