Chapter 84: Chapter 84
"Yes, I agree, and it's because he has gone rogue and has started doing unnatural things." Alpha Clause replied as he looked at me. "We need to find him no matter what, but we have to go back to our pack house and rest first. We haven't had lunch yet, and the sun is about to go down."
I nodded in agreement as I looked around at the dark tunnel that led to the outside world. I couldn't wait to return to my pack, so I walked closely to Alpha Clause as we made our way out of the cave. He took my hand in his, interlacing our fingers together, and held it tightly as we walked side by side.
When we reached the exit, Alpha Clause took a deep breath and released it when he noticed that we were alone outside the tunnel. Both of us stayed silent as we waited for a few minutes until we heard a large group of our pack members that went off in search of Alpha Ross in the other directions.
"Fay, I'm sorry for everything that happened. I didn't know that Alpha Ross would attack you like that." Alpha Clause apologized as he squeezed my hand tighter. He looked really regretful and concerned, but I didn't want him to beat himself up on that.
"It's okay, honey. I understand why he did that, especially since he has gone rogue, but I was hoping that he would just let me go. I'm just glad that you saved me instead of letting him control and manipulate you." I smiled gently at him, putting my head on his shoulder.
"I wouldn't have let anything happen to you, Luna. I swear." He murmured as he kissed the top of my head and stroked his hand down my arm.
"Thank you for protecting me, Clause even though I'm very capable of taking care of myself." I whispered to him as I held onto his hand.
He smirked at me, "Yeah, you are, but I still wanted to protect you. I don't want anyone hurting you." He leaned forward, kissing me softly on the lips, and I returned the kiss.
After several seconds of getting lost in the kiss, we broke apart. "So, is it safe for us to go back home now?" I asked him.
"Yes, I don't sense any threats in our area, but we should still stay alert until we find Alpha Ross." He answered me just as Carter and the other pack warriors came into view.
I sighed as I sat down on the sofa in my pack house, tiredly rubbing my eyes. I had slept for hours after we had returned from finding Alpha Ross, and now it was almost midnight. I had woken up a few times during the night to check on my Alpha mate, but he seemed to be sleeping peacefully. However, now, he wasn't beside me on the sofa and I wondered where he went.
Carter and the other pack warriors were sitting in the dining room, drinking coffee as they talked among themselves. I couldn't help but glance over at them every now and then as I wondered if any of them might have seen Alpha Ross running away with the Mirror of Wisdom after he ran away from the cave. Maybe he used a potion to escape from us in the cave because he just disappeared without a trace and we couldn't detect his scent after.
I rolled my eyes at myself as I shook my head. I was just worried that he might attack us again and even take over our pack like he did with the West pack, even though I knew that there was nothing I could do about it.
My thoughts drifted away as someone tapped my shoulder. I turned around to see Alpha Clause standing next to me. I smiled at him and stood up quickly, walking over to him. He grabbed my hand and kissed it, then looked down at me with his alluring dark eyes.
"Where did you go?" I asked him as I walked closer to him.
He chuckled, "I was in my study, working on some documents. I was going to take you upstairs to our room, but I didn't want to risk waking you up since I know that you must be tired from looking for Alpha Ross all day."
"Thanks, honey. You're so sweet, but what about you? Are you sure that you're okay?" I questioned him as I reached up and stroked the side of his face. "You seem really tired and you must have been up late tonight."
He nodded, leaning down to kiss me softly on the lips, which caused me to melt inside. "Yes, I'm fine. I'm just exhausted from being up all night watching over you, and I have a lot of work to do today since Alpha Ross attacked you."
"Well, I'm glad that you're okay now." I smiled at him and leaned my head against his chest. "Can you stay here with me for a little while? I feel safer with you near me."
He nodded as he took my hand, placing it on his chest as he wrapped his arms around me and held me close to his body. His heart was beating rapidly and his warm breath tickled my ear as he whispered, "Of course I'll stay with you, Fay, my one. I love you more than anything."
I smiled, happy that he was with me. I needed him with me after what happened, and I was glad that he was here to protect me and keep me safe. "I love you too, honey."
He kissed my forehead and stepped back, looking down at me lovingly as he rubbed his thumb over my cheek. "Now, let's go upstairs and sleep together for the rest of the night."
I nodded and followed him towards the staircase leading up to the second floor. I got undressed and changed into a pair of pajamas while he took off his shirt. He helped me with my clothes and then we climbed up the stairs to our bedroom.
