Chapter 256: Chapter 256
".... And who do we have here?"
The cool manly voice sent chills down Ava’s neck, and she turned swiftly nearly tumbling down only to be caught in the arms of another person. Ava jerked and then instinctively looked towards the voice.
In one evening, Ava felt that she had felt all the emotions relating to the lowest of the lows which was mixed her heart wanting to soar and thrust out of her throat.
Ava may have had her suspicions especially about the fact that Ian could somehow talk directly in her head, but anyone would agree with her that whatever she was seeing and experiencing just did not make sense from a lay man’s perspective.
If Ava had been watching a movie, she would have jumped for joy at the proceedings of the evening but seeing it on TV and then experiencing it were two very different scenarios.
In fact, even at that time, Ava did entertain the thoughts that, it would have been better if everything was just a thrilling and engaging dream, but it was none like that. In as much as Ava loved fantasy stuff, the last thing she wanted to experience was the same things depicted there in real life.
Nonetheless, that was exactly what was happening, for one if the men she had been hiding from was the one who had spoken those words right behind her.
’Ho-w did he get here? Wasn’t he -’
It did not make sense that Murray was speaking by her side when he was in the darkened space meters from her just moments ago!
Ava snapped her head and jumped again at the closeness of the second person who had studied her, Currey.
The eerie part of all that was, Currey had a small smile that remained in place while Murray was anything but amused.
For some strange reason, Ava preferred the gloomy and sombre Murray to the smiling Currey. Scenes of some horror movies she had watched some time back started replaying in her head.
’In that movie, the serial killer would always have that pleasant smile on his face even as he sliced through people with chain saws.’ Ava shuddered at that thought because she remembered that all smiles from men after that movie had just reminded her of that psycho from the movie and she was getting an even stronger and deadly vibe from Currey.
Ava took a few more steps back so that she was at a diagonal angle between Currey and Murray.
’Shelby would have known what to do in this case.’ Ava thought. Between the two of them, Ava was the self-appointed ’sexualist’ if one could call her that. Ava was the one who gave advice on men and ’protected’ them from such as well. Shelby was the more practical one and handled that part of their lives.
At that thought, Ava, who had been inching back and the two men inching closer to her suddenly had some sort of epiphany.
Ava stopped abruptly and then looked straight at Murray first and then at Currey. The two men exchanged a brief look as they could see that something had changed in her. They did not know what but the overly scared look all but disappeared from Ava, the one friend that their mistress had.
In fact, the two had been torn. Murray had been the first who had felt her presence. It would have been easier to just wipe her memory of everything that she had seen and then they would have had nothing to worry about.
The two had no time to worry about an outsider when Shelby was in danger. Murray agitation was growing by the second because per his connection to Shelby, he knew best what exactly had gone wrong.
’Take care of her like we usually do, and let’s leave!’
Currey looked straight at his brother with that command. They could not afford any lose ends. Murray took a meaningful look at Ava, his face not revealing what was inside or what they planned to do. Ava could not believe that barely a few seconds had passed. She was anything but calm on the inside, but she put on a brave front.
Murray took one step and then another, but Ava stood her ground. It was only her eyes that betrayed what she was feeling.
"You know what? It doesn’t matter what or who you are. What is happening with Shelby! What is wrong with her? Why was she like that? -"
Murray stopped with one foot still hovering in the air and he turned to his brother who was gawking.
"What?" Currey was confused as was Murray. This was never how people reacted when they found out that they could do things that ’normal’ human being could not do. It was like the fear of the unknown, but this girl here was only interested in the wellbeing of her friend.
One could see that she was anything but okay, but it looked like her mind was prioritizing the issue of her friend more than her fears.
"What is happening to Shelby? I need to know that she is okay!"
"You! You are not scared?" Currey blurted out.
"Of course, I am but Shelby is more important! Now what happened to her and where did Ian take her?"
As if on a second thought, Ava added, "Can you take me there?"
This time even the almost expressionless Murray scrunched up his face as if he did not understand what Ava was talking about.
Ava could have fooled them with all that she was saying vs her attitude.
"What happened, Brianna?" Abi had decided not to ask her daughter anything, but she could not help it. As their car sped through the street’s lines with the various plants and shrubs, Ava just could not help it but turn Brianna in the back of their limo.
"I asked you a question!"
Abi had some sort of a premonition that she could not shake off especially looking t her daughter’s satisfied smile that she was trying to hide.
"Don’t do that Abi! Our girl is tired after a long evening out." Abram stepped in.
"Let our baby rest!" Then Abram turned to Brianna.
"Does your leg hurt; I could see you walking slightly funnily. Bring it let me check it out for you."
Brianna scooted closer to her father and placed both of feet on his lap. Abram started massaging her legs and for once, Abi was not happy.
She knew that she had indulged her daughter a lot but even though she did not know what the issue was, Abi already had a plan in place and Abi needed no random variables at play, but she forgot to factor how willful her daughter was. Just take it as a mother’s instinct. She just knew that her daughter had acted and done something she shouldn’t have.
"Chill mum! I just thought a little lesson to that girl who thinks that she can snatch what is mine."
"YOU DID WHAT?!!!!!!!"
The driver got startled and stepped on the brakes at once!
"Hey! Watch it!" Brianna snapped as the impact nearly threw her and her parents off their seats. She then turned to her mother.
"Really? Mum? What is this?"
Brianna yanked her feet from her dad and then fully looked at her mother exasperatedly.
"You must decide, mum. You cannot be here and there at the same time."
"Did I not tell you to leave it all to me? Why would you go and provoke the sleeping lion?"
"Lion? Who? Don’t worry! Nothing will happen!"
"You know the number of people saw you leaving in that dress? Do you think that no one would make the connection? Tell me exactly what you did!"
Abram felt left out of the conversation, but he knew better than to interrupt when the two ladies in his life were like that.
When Brianna was still acting nonchalantly, Abi sent a message but that was exactly when Brianna chose to talk, "Relax mum, dead people don’t talk!"
Before Abi could ask what, her daughter meant, her phone beeped with the response and she blanched, pale!
Under the night sky, Murray shook his head as if he had not understood what Ava had said.
Murray knew exactly what Ava was insinuating but that would be breaking more laws. Without his highnesses’ permission, he dared not.
"Your way should be faster since Ian just disappeared with Shelby. Hurry! I need to know what has happened."
Murray took a step back and then said finally,
"Because no one can get close to them now!"
"What are you doing? Are you not going to wipe her memories?"
"Wait... WHAT?!!! You can wipe memories too?! What are you? You sound so cool! But this is not the time, I need to go check on Shelby!"
"Can I trust on your discretion?" Murray asked, seemingly ignoring his brother but he used their mind link instead.
’I think the mistress can use that extra person she could talk to. She is very close to this person here and from my observation over the years, Miss Ava is trustworthy.’
Currey was not onboard, but he knew that they had more pressing matters to work on. He could imagine the chaos that Ian had caused within the full minute they had spent with Ava there.
Murray stared down his brother for mere nano seconds before he turned back to Ava, "... this is what is going to happen..."
