Chapter 254: Chapter 254
’Calm down, Ian. It’s probably nothing.’ Ian tried to convince himself even though his self-doubt was mounting. What was holding Ian back was that in the past instances where Shelby had been in danger, he had literally been pulled to the scene of the problem. Ian did not have to know where Shelby was or what kind of danger she had been in, but he had instinctively known where to go.
Ian was very sure that his Elfin was in danger. Ian felt it in his gut but at the same time, he could not feel it. It was a strange cycle that was making him go nuts! And this grew by each second that Ian did not lay eyes on his wife.
However, he also felt that leaving would be too reckless if it was all just paranoia on his part. Ian had noticed in the past few days that he was always on edge when Shelby was not within his sight even in their home.
On the far side of town and on the Thornston estate premises, Murray straightened to his full height and looked down indifferently at Suzie, who was slumped down flat. She was heaving like as if she was about to die.
They were having one of their training sessions. This had become quite frequent since Suzie came to be in the known of the supernatural stuff. However, Suzie never got used to the intensity of what Murray made her do each time. As someone who considered herself physically fit, this was beyond her capabilities.
"Ouaaahhhhh!" A childish, excited voice, followed by hard clapping, drew Suzie’s eyes tiredly to the side of the room they were in.
An excited Gabriel was jumping up and down at the scene of her being trained by Murray.
"Murray! I want to learn to do that too! Me too!" Gabriel’s eyes shone brightly but as soon as he wanted to dash forward, Ingrid, who was seated just to his left, held his hand to stop him in his tracks.
"Ingrid! Ingrid! I want Murray to teach me that too. The looked so cool. He went like hyaaaa!!! Aahhhhhh! And then he threw a big punch and then she went down! Then when he raised his leg -"
As if to demonstrate, Gabriel raised his small leg and nearly lost his footing. It was a comical and comforting sight to see the boy try to mimic the actions of the adult. In as much as Gabriel found it fancy, Suzie did not.
"See? You are not there yet. I am sure Murray will teach you when he can, but just not today..." Ingrid whispered. It seemed like she had warmed up to the people in the room, so Ingrid did not stammer shyly in their presence anymore, but she was still a tad bit timid.
"Bu-" Gabriel started but when he met Murray’s eyes, the little boy stopped short.
"Take them back to their rooms."
Murray said without so much as a glance towards Suzie. Something about his tone of voice told Suzie that something was up.
Suzie also started and like Gabriel, she stopped short too. Her words caught in her throat as she knew that something was seriously wrong. Murray’s whole person had turned cold and deadly in ways that Suzie had never seen before. In fact, if this was the non-human Murray that Suzie had met initially, she would have never agreed to keep her memories of that day by the poolside.
Suzie forgot her tiredness and stood up with a little difficulty. As if the two kids could also see that something was off, they did not cause of mischief or struggle as Suzie ushed them out. All this happened within under a couple of minutes.
Murray did not wait till they were out of the room before he disappeared.
Suzie, on the other hand made sure that none of them turned and she shut the door firmly behind her.
Her training was already coming together, and she knew what to do in instances like that. She wondered what had happened for someone as strong as Murray to have such a tense look.
Shaking her head, Suzie led the kids back to their rooms.
Elsewhere and a little earlier, two cloaked figures sat around a table engaging in long and hard stares against each other.
"Here it is." The first one said,
"So, you’re sure that it will work this time?" The second one asked as it reached out and picked up the small bottle that contained a colourless liquid.
"I can only vouch for its authenticity. As for what you want to use it for, that totally depends on you..."
The second, feeling annoyed, stood up abruptly and then walked out of the place.
A few moments later, it smiled as it got the confirmation that the small bottle had been delivered to its intended recipients.
At this time, it stood in the darkest corners of the fermentation chamber in which Shelby lay trying to fight for a life that she was not sure that she was losing.
’Let’s see you call for him again this time!’ It said baring out its mouth and laughing as if no one was there.
Murray appeared right in the middle of the T-Vino winery lobby. One moment he was not there and in a split second, he was. Chaos ensued,
"Where did he come from? GHOST!!!!"
With a wave of his hand, every single person that has seen him slumped down as if in a slumber of a sort.
Murray did not stop and he had no time to be in stealth. He walked straight and came to Currey within under a minute.
At this time, Ava had just finished her narration to Currey and he was trying hard to determine if this was something that he needed to report. Looking at his brother, Currey also knew that something was definitely off.
Murmurs went around as Currey was not alone but Currey also looked outright dangerous and scary.
He looked straight at his brother as he switched to using their mind link.
Currey’s eyes widened and that was the first time that Ava had seen him make such a reaction. Even though the two men had said nothing, the way they looked at each other and their changing expressions told Ava and even the others around that they were communicating without moving their lips; almost like a sign language that used only the facial muscles.
Without a word, Currey took off running, followed by Murray. Ava was unsure of what was going on but she had delivered her info to Currey so she decided not to follow them. She had something that she wanted to cross-check.
On Ian’s side, he could not concentrate on anything at all.
"Hey bro, what’s wrong with you? You don’t look well...."
Ian could remotely hear Brad’s voice by him, but he could not understand what Brad meant.
"Should I get sister-in-law for you?"
That statement was able to get Ian to slightly focus on him.
"I think that I saw her earlier leaving the event hall but interestingly, that friend of hers and ..."
Ian stood up straight massaging his temple and wincing at the same time. His eyes narrowed and he turned to Brad.
"Huh?" Brad was confused but when Ian asked again, more firmly this time, Brad skewed his head on the side in confusion before comprehension dawned on him,
"Sister-in-law? Oh, she was leaving the hall when I was coming in so maybe a quarter of an hour to half an hour? Sh-"
Ian turned abruptly and started leaving but then he heard Currey and Murray in his mind.
This was when Ian felt that something was really wrong. Currey was not bonded and could not feel nor locate Shelby like Murray could do. So, he had no idea of the gravity of the issue at hand. That was until, his brother had come in.
’When was the last time you felt the connection?’ Ian asked using his mind link as he strode out to the bafflement of all the stakeholders in there.
"Hey Ian? Where are you going?!"
"Take care of them!" Ian threw over his shoulder at Brad. Brad hated those formal situations the most but seeing the mood his brother was in, he dared not follow the instructions.
Even Brad was puzzled as he had never seen his brother that way before.
Ian connected the dots in his head. ’Just around the same time I lost my connection to her!’
His heart sunk when he realized that even though he had lost his connection, he could still feel that something was wrong!
’Why did I ignore this?’ He lamented and then added, ’Ian! This is not the time; you need to find her!’
This would have been easier previously; except he could not pinpoint her location at all. Just as Ian stepped out of the place, he was into the cool evening air, he heard a very faint sound. A sound so low and weak that Ian’s heart got caught in his throat, "I-an.... P-lea-se, h-el...p!"
Ian shouted as a strange well of anger and desperation enveloped him shrouding him in that familiar expanse of white light that he was fast becoming used to.
