Chapter 160: Chapter 160
The security man shook his head slowly as Brianna’s car disappeared from his sight. Brianna grinned from ear to ear, puffing up her chest with pride.
’I am in! Finally,’ She thought.
They drove for a few more minutes, passing rows and rows of trees that neatly lined the road and short fruit trees scattered beyond the road and spreading as far as her eye could see.
’All these would be mine soon enough, but my hubby would not suffer a bit as I would make sure to come with a lot!’
The fact that Shelby was her friend seemed to be eluding Brianna more often than not then.
Soon, the car pulled up to the residence’s main entrance, and Brianna felt her heart sink as she frowned. One should understand that Brianna had envisioned a lot of things as her welcome to the Thornston residence but never what greeted her when her car rolled to a stop.
She waited for her driver to come out and open her door, her frown getting heavier by the second.
"You arrived." Ava welcomed her and stood patiently, with folded arms, taking in Brianna’s appearance. She started matching her friend’s frown. This was because Ava knew her friends inside and out. Brianna looked too hot in Ava’s view. Brianna was there to visit her friend, and Ava wondered why she had dressed like that. Ava had a hunch but decided not to jump to conclusions.
That was until Brianna asked snappily,
"Where is Shelby? Why isn’t she here to welcome me?"
Ava dropped her arms in exasperation.
"Really? Brianna? I never get what is wrong with you when you talk like the slut that you are not! But sometimes, you try my patience so much!"
Brianna narrowed her eyes at the retort. In essence, she had expected a long line of maids to welcome her along with her friend, but what was this? Only Ava was there to meet her. That made Brianna sad, frustrated and angry. Every word that dropped out of Ava’s mouth further infuriated Brianna.
"I know you can be insensitive, but you are too much sometimes! I called you and told you of Shelby’s accident, but you did not even bother to do anything, right? Did you even call to check on her? Scratch that; I don’t need you to answer that question. I know for a fact that you did not even bother-"
"Sigh! Ava! You are a drag! Why would I bother when I would see her today? Besides, did she die?"
Brianna rolled her eyes, and Ava shook her head, hoping that no one had heard that insensitive statement, but unfortunately for them, someone had, and within minutes, the information had gotten to the relevant ears.
"Yeah, I get that Shelby was hurt, but did she hurt her legs? She didn’t, right? So, what stops her from coming in to welcome me when she invited me?"
Ava looked at Brianna as if she had grown horns and then turned and left her there.
Brianna hastened quickly and followed her into the estate, her heels making click-clack sounds on the floor.
That morning, when Shelby awoke, she found her husband seated by her on his bed, smiling down at her. It had already been a day when she found out that all the wounds on her body had all but disappeared. How did that happen?!
Shelby had no idea, but she did not know how to explain it to the household, so when Ian kept her in the room, she had no complaints. She just slept for the better part of the day and was awake minimally.
Even though she would have wished to stay indoors, she knew that, with Brianna visiting, she had to get out. They could not use the injuries as an excuse because Ian had told them she was all okay when he had taken her out of the hospital that day.
"Good morning, Elfin,"
Shelby smiled and tried to rub the sleep off her face.
She never finished her greeting before Ian swooped down on her juicy mouth. He kissed her soundly and dropped a peck on her lips. Their hazy and lusty gazes held each other as she blushed heavily.
’Cute!’ He thought as his heart thumped heavily in his chest.
"Brianna is visiting today..."
"I know," he said as he bent down and started nibbling on her ear, down her neck and head to her cleavage.
"I think I should get up."
She started and then let out a shriek as Ian pulled her up unexpectedly so that she was straddling him.
"What are you doing?" She whispered while thinking of the fact that she had not even washed her face that morning. He brought her closer, her breast pressing against his bare chest through her flimsy nightwear.
Ian added with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes as he gazed at her lips. He leaned in and lightly bit her lips, but before Shelby could move back, Ian cupped the back of her head and kissed her deeply, nudging her lips open.
He spared no effort in kissing Shelby until she felt dizzy. She also responded equally, running small her hands all over his large chest. His beard scraped against her, tickling her in the process.
However, her phone started ringing just then, making Ian cuss.
He reached for the phone and did not stop kissing her. He made to throw it away when Shelby stopped him.
Ian rested their foreheads together, trying to compose himself.
"You will be the death of me!" She giggled, her face all red from the flush that had crept up her neck and all over her face.
"Do you really have to go?" Ian pouted.
Shelby froze. She looked at this giant of a man with a pout and burst out laughing. She laughed so hard that she could not control herself.
A little later, she said,
"What do we do about these bruises and the fact that it’s not there anymore?"
"Do you trust your personal maid?"
Shelby nodded, and Ian said, "Then, that’s simple."
He was reluctant to part with her, but he knew that it was his timing that sucked. In the two days that she had stayed there, he had not touched her once as she had been asleep almost all of the time, an unusual phenomenon.
He carried up Shelby and crossed over to her room where Suzie was waiting as she had been summoned.
Ian set her down and then took a seat on the bed as Shelby quickly freshened up. His eyes intently followed Suzie as if sizing her up. Apart from the initial astonishment of seeing her mistress’ flawless skin, Suzie had not made any other indication of anything. She also held in her excitement of seeing her mistress after a few days. Suzie thoroughly helped Shelby dress up, with Ian guiding them.
"Get her something that will cover her arms and legs."
Suzie nodded and set to work. The usual Suzie, did not make any noise and did her work professionally. After they were done, Shelby was in pink leggings and a loose-cut sweater while Suzie attended to her makeup.
"You know what to do with her makeup, right?" Suzie took a moment to try to understand what Ian meant. However, she was a smart one, and that was the main reason she had been chosen to serve Shelby. She knew that it was impossible for Shelby’s wounds to have healed, but she was in no position to ask.
In Suzie’s line of work, it was see-no-evil, hear-no-evil, speak-no-evil. So, she proceeded in the best way she knew; the makeup she ended up putting on Shelby was a special one. She made it look like Shelby was lightly bruised and had covered it with makeup instead of the other way around.
When Ian saw the final effect, he nodded and then made her add a thin gauze to bandage Shelby’s ankle.
Suzie was able to do all of these because she had seen Shelby’s wounds first-hand. It was very realistic!
"I trust that we do not have to talk about discretion?"
Suzie went to her knees immediately and bowed, her forehead hitting the floor.
"Never, master Ian! Miss Shelby is my mistress for life-"
Ian stopped her in the middle,
Those out-of-the-ordinary phenomena were going to be happening a lot with Shelby’s associations with him; they needed a trusted person to be with her. Besides, if she failed the test, they would just wipe her memory or wipe off her existence in its entirety. Ian had no qualms about that, but his wife seemed to girl, so he was being prudent with her.
"You can leave if you’re done!"
Suzie stood up and sent a smile to Shelby as well as a thump up, making Shelby smile wide yet again.
Ian was already very dissatisfied with this friend of Shelby’s even before he had had reports from his mother and other sources. He also wanted to see her and her worth. Ava was more relatable, and he was happy that his Elfin at least had one person that she could rely on.
They walked slowly and went to the receiving room especially as Ava had sent a message that Brianna had arrived. Even though Ava could not see Shelby, she had called and sent multiple messages to check on her all the time.
As soon as they entered the receiving room, they met Ava and Brianna. Ava sprung into action and ran to give Shelby a big hug!
"I am so glad that you are okay! You had me worried out of my mind!"
Shelby smiled, "I am okay, as you can see...."
"Where are you, okay? Just look at all these bruises! Who was the jerk that did thi-"
She paused, "Ah yes, you slipped! How can you be so clumsy? You should take better care of yourself-"
As they talked on and on, Brianna was stuck in the same spot, her eyes glued to Ian and never once on Shelby. She felt blood rush into her ears, and her eyes finally landed on her crush, her god, in real life! Life couldn’t have been greater at that moment.
"Huh?" She dragged her eyes away from her love with impatience, marring her features at that interruption. She turned to her two friends.
Just then, Brianna said sarcastically as if she had forgotten her surroundings!
"Nothing shows that you were in an accident."
She belatedly realized her audience and turned to see many eyes on her, including the people she had not thought were there!
