Chapter 153: Chapter 153

Currey stared wide-eyed at the vacant seat. Many thoughts ran through him as he tried to make sense of what had happened.

"That was unexpected!" He exclaimed to himself thoughtfully and, without hesitation, took the seat after he had re-plugged the screen back.

Clearing his throat, "Hello, w-"

The Manager-Agents flinched when the screen came back on with the copper-haired lanky man who looked so small on the screen and in the chair as compared to the person who had been there moments prior. Some exchanged uncertain glances.

"Cu-rrey? Where is the Chairman?"

"My apologies for the technical issue experienced. The Chairman had to attend to something immediately and just left-"

’... and he could not even have the decency to let us know?’ One thought, but the agent who had been in the middle of speaking felt his body relax.

’OMG! I was not the problem!’

"- we will reconvene this meeting later," Currey added and then reached out to end the meeting. However, one person had a question,

"I will let you know when the Chairman confirms it!" Currey disconnected the remote connection and then disappeared from the office in the blink of an eye.

In the agents’ room, angry Manager Agents turned to the last person who had asked that question.

"What is wrong with you!? Do you want to be let go so bad?"

"Yh! I don’t even know why he stupidly asked that question! Here I was thinking, ’Thank the heavens’, and he goes to ask ’when’? Like Really? When?"

"Tch Tch Tch! Always the one who wants to stand out! Learn to read the room!"

One by one, they filed out of the room, almost spitting out their displeasure at the man. He hung his head until all of them left, and then he followed suit, biting his lips.

Currey knew how to follow the trail left behind by Ian. It was an easy-peasy thing for him as this was one of his main abilities. He found himself back in that same park that he had come to despise, but this time, that level of emotion went sky-high!

For Ian, his heart fell right through! Her tear-stained and distressed face, the twines and vines around Shelby that were almost suffocating her and the whole set-up of the place; it was a carefully laid death trap!

He let out a deafening cry, and then he used his bare hands to rip apart the sturdy vines that were crawling all around unseeingly. His eyes were hooked on only one target, and everything else was nonexistent! In the next moment, the vines that had life-like movements all froze in their movements, like the dead roots of a tree.

Ian’s mind seemed to be disconnected from his being; he charged through the vines towards her. Despite his state, he slowed down when he got to her. Going down on his knees, he gently tore off the rest, making sure not to harm her any more than she already was.

"Are you okay?" Ian asked in a voice that did not sound like his. A voice so deep yet husky that made Shelby’s skin tingle.

However, Shelby knew that he would never do anything to harm her. It was a gut instinct.

Ian gingerly took her hand that had the glowing ring and intertwined it with his. He brought it to his lips and kissed it soundly.

Shelby lunged herself into his arms and sobbed loudly.

She had thought that all hope had been lost.

"I- I-" She sniffled and tried to get the words out through the sobs.

"Shhhhh!!!!!!" Ian tapped her back gently. He started to feel his heart calm down a little, with her in his arms.

"Are you hurt anywhere?"

Shelby shook her head slowly, not trusting herself to speak out but that action made her wince.

Ian stood up with her in his arms. His head barely reached the top of the pit, showing how deep it was. Ian jumped out of the pit to come face-to-face with Currey and Murray.

Both stumbled back at the raw rage of waves that seemed to emanate from Ian.

They took slow steps back and then made way for Ian, with only one thought in mind.

’I think it’s better to stay away from him!’

Ian’s eyes were still totally white, his mouth set in a grim line, and his facial features glistened. Without a look at them, Ian disappeared from the place yet again.

A few seconds passed before the remnants of the white lights disappeared, plunging the place into near darkness once more.

"How did you get yourself into this predicament?"

"I didn’t see it coming!"

"You know that he is going to be very pissed off at you, right? She nearly died under your watch!"

"Don’t you think that I know that?" Murray mumbled, running his hands through his hair.

"Just take a look around. Can any human do this? Do you think that any human, Fae, or even low-level witch could so much as touch me? You should think of that before you start throwing accusations, brother!"

"It still will not change anything! We need to get ourselves some plausible explanation before he gets back to us!"

"... Did you see that? I think he gained a differe-"

Currey sent a glare that was enough for Murray to shut up. There were some things that were better left unsaid, and that was the only thing that Murray needed to work on.

"I think that she may have caught onto something. I initially thought she was just being creative, but now, I am not so sure.... Come with me!"

A little further from there, the two cloaked figures stood watching everything unfold.

"That was a wild, unforeseen variable!" The second one finally spoke up. Its’ voice was the same, neither sounding male nor female.

"WILD UNFORESEEN! What do you mean by that? You told me that it was a done deal! Why?! How did this happen?! Now they are going to be extra alert around her!"

"I don’t think any of us saw this coming...."

"How useless are you not to have seen this coming?! And most importantly, why did you leave me behind? What if he had seen me?"

"Our agreement only covered the girl. You were never stipulated in the clause, so why would I have to go out of my way to do such an unnecessary thing!"

"Unnecessary?" The first cloaked figure nearly chocked on its words.

"What do you mean by that?" Upon turning, the person found out that the other was long gone.

"Ha...hahahahahahaaa!!!!! So, I have been diminished to the point of talking to myself?"

Pausing for a bit, the person added, "I didn’t know he could do that?"

Shaking the head, the person turned and left the place. A brief ray of light passed over the features from the cloak that had slightly shifted. It goes to say that a few people from around Shelby would have been very surprised to see this.

Ian ’appeared’ right in the middle of the emergency room of the main hospital in T-Vino Island with Shelby latched around him like a wall gecko refusing to let go.

"Ahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!" Someone screamed!

However, Ian paid no heed to them, and Shelby was trembling all over! He held her tighter as that looked to give him some comfort that was missing inside him. Not even once did his eyes leave her. Kissing the top of her head, he walked quickly, his eyes scanning for only he knew what!

The busy emergency room plunged into silence immediately! Then someone else let out a shuttering shout!

"Ahhhhh! Where did he come out from?!"

"Ghost! OMG! Look at his eyes!"

"We are all going to die!"

An ensuing chaos emerged from that abruptness. But Ian did not slow down even once. His eyes scanned the crowd as patients on stretchers tumbled off trying to get as far away from him. Doctors and nurses alike dashed as far away as possible, and people ran for their lives! Some scrambled on their bums, their eyes opened wide as saucers. It was not every day that a giant-statured man with no colour in his eyes appeared out of thin air and in front of everybody. His demeanour was almost as if he would crush everyone like ants under his feet. However, they were not about to stay back and find out. They scrambled from the room like their lives depended on it.

A brave nurse took hesitant steps towards him. She was a nurse first before all other things.

"Excuse me sir, what is wrong with the patien-"

The nurse who had been about to ask stumbled back, her words caught in her throat. Ian’s look sent her way was indeed enough to freeze and do away with anyone! At that moment, everyone was labelled ’danger’!

The nurse’s heart got caught in her throat, and she felt herself lose control of her body as she sagged down, trembling all over. Maybe she would have been okay if she had not met Ian’s eyes!

Just as this happened, Shelby sagged in Ian’s arms; her limps, which were tightly latched to him, fell off of him! Her hands hang limply.

"Elfin!" Ian shook her unresponsive body and his heart plunged into despair.

"Elfin!!!!" His voice boomed, and the patients in the room felt weak in their knees. Ian sprinted towards the elevators with no hesitation at all: ’Please be okay!’
