Chapter 18: Chapter 18
True to Bethel's word, precious couldn't sleep. His words kept recalling in her brain and the kiss was vivid in her memory.
Precious came out of the gate, walking herself to school when she noticed a car following her. She turned to look at the back to see the car halted.
The door of the car opened and Bethel came out. "Good morning," he greeted, showing his pearly white teeth.
Precious heart skipped, "Good-morning!" She stuttered, taking a good look at him.
"Join me to school, "he told her, waiting patiently for her. She stared at him with shock. Why would she join him at school? She thought.
"I'm waiting," he said with both hands in his pocket.
"Thanks for the offer, kindly go alone," she told him, continuing on her part. She didn't get too far till a hand grabbed her arm pulling her.
"What are you doing?!" She asked.
"What does it look like I'm doing?" He retorted, pissing her off.
"Let go of me Jerk!" She spat out.
"You're a jerk by the way," he retorted, forcefully pushing her into the car.
The driver started to drive with Precious hurling words of insult at Bethel who found no offense in it, her madness only made him smile.
"You are mannerless, you need lessons!" She spat out furiously.
"You know what..." He trailed off. "I wish you would do this to your bullies because I'm obviously not one of them," he said, riling her the most.
Her heart churned as she felt her numbs becoming weak, "Gladly rub it on," she hissed facing the other side of the window.
As soon as the driver parked in front of the school water fountain, Precious came down from the car slamming the door shut and Bethel walked behind her slowly. The girl was driving him nuts, one moment she's quiet and the next, she was acting crazy again.
Those qualities were what he liked about her but he didn't like the fact she couldn't stand up for herself against the others like she does with him. She was just too hard to predict.
As soon as Precious stepped her feet into the school hallway, her heart began to race, she hadn't been in school for a whole week because of drama and now she got welcomed by one.
The BBD waited patiently for her as she walked closer to them. "Well, well well," Beauty clapped. "Who do we have here?" She asked, pouting her lips.
" She's got a new uniform!" Dorathy cooed with her dry voice.
"So whose car did you come out from? Girl you are weird! Who the hell are you?" Blessing asked walking closer to Precious.
"Wasn't that Bethels car?" Dorathy asked.
"Who the hell are you to be coming out from my fiance's car?" Beauty asked. "Now that I think of it, he helped you the other day..." She trailed off.
"Are you his cousin?" She gasped trying to comprehend.
Precious shook her head, this girls are useless and stupid. She thought of what Bethel told her earlier, she could stand up to them, but was she ready for the consequences?! She thought.
She pushed past them without saying anything, leaving them to their depressing thoughts.
"Bitch, we.are.still.talking.to.you!" Dorathy pulled her back talking through gritted teeth.
Precious balled her first before taking Dorathy hand off her, "I. Am. Done. Talking. To. You," she spat out, making emphasis on her every word.
Wow! That was cool! Precious said to herself walking to her class.
The rest of the week was peaceful, the exams commenced quietly and Precious hadn't been bothered by anyone although she received threatening glares from the BBD. She had thanked Bethel and asked for his forgiveness that same day and things had been cool with them.
They hadn't argued or fought lately which Precious found strange.
Bethel engagement Ceremony was settled for the day after their last exam. Bethel was furious that he locked himself in his room when he heard the news.
His father kept knocking on his door asking him to open up but he didn't. "Feranmi opens the door!" His father named Bidemi shouted.
"Don't get me angry with you because you know it won't be good!" His father shouted but none of that shook Bethel off his feet.
For what he knew was, his father wouldn't be able to stay a day without hearing from his son. "Feranmi!" His father called but he didn't open his door.
"Daddy go away and come back when your senses are back!" He shouted.
"You know that's an insult!" His father retorted.
"That's not an insult, that's an advice, you can't make me marry some weirdo!" He yelled.
"She's not a weirdo!" His father shouted banging his door.
"Your voice won't do anything because I'm gonna commit suicide before you open this door!" He yelled, shaking his father off his feet.
"Are you insane?! Don't do anything stupid, do you want your mother's ghost to visit me?" His father asked, still banging the door nervously. If there was one thing he was scared of losing in his life was his son.
"Okay, please open the door and let us talk first. If you don't want it, we won't go with it," His father tried reasoning.
Bethel walked to the door and opened it for his father, letting him in. "You are a pain in the neck, you this boy. O ni pa mi rara!" Bidemi spoke.
Bidemi sat down on Bethel's couch gesturing for him to sit down too. Bethel sat down listening to whatever his father had to say.
"If you don't want to marry her, do me a favour and have this dinner first, then I will listen to you too." Bidemi said.
"I already know her and I don't like her, so stop this already!" Bethel was firm with his words.
"Bethel, do this one for Daddy, won't you?" Biddemi asked.
Bethel sighed. "Okay."
