Chapter 85: Chapter 85

Jacob Green listened to Lucy Eaton’s words and analyzed, "If what she said is true, you don’t need to ask your godparents right away. They wouldn’t want others to know and would definitely say you were born to them. Asking might make them uncomfortable. A test will tell you everything."

"How do I get a test done?"

"It’s easy. Next time you go to Northriver City, pull a few strands of hair from your godparents by pretending to stroke their hair. I’ll handle things on Mason Baker and the Quinn Family’s side."

Lucy leaned on his chest, "Good idea, you’re well thought out. No need to have Hazel Soft investigate now, I’ll figure it out sooner or later myself."

"Luckily you’re smart, you knew to send A-Feng to buy her a new one. If you actually gave her my used clothes, I’d be disgusted."

"Why do you think she wants your clothes? Could it be to hold them while sleeping?"

"Possibly, but she might have other plans."

"I have her location on my phone, I’ll just check in from time to time."

"Honey, it’s late at night, we should be getting intimate."

Lucy heard this and her face blushed a little, "Get what intimate? I’m tired all day, I need to rest."

He persisted, "I’ll be on top, no need for you to exert yourself, it won’t hinder your sleep."

What a joke, while he moves around on top, how could she possibly sleep?

She turned over, back to him, "No, don’t touch me, I have to get up early for work tomorrow."

Jacob Green ignored her words, hugged her from behind, and even put his leg over hers, "Honey..."

Lucy closed her eyes, not saying a word.

Seeing her silent, his hand slid to her waist, gently squeezing her soft flesh, making it even more impossible for Lucy to settle down and sleep.

Knowing he wouldn’t stop until he got his way, Lucy compromised after all.

After a moment of ecstasy, she fell asleep without even taking a shower.

Since it was summer, hot weather, Jacob Green was afraid she might catch a cold from the air conditioning, so he kept it at 24 degrees. The temperature was suitable, but when she woke up in the morning, Lucy still felt hot all over, her nightgown soaked with sweat.

She got up to take a shower and caught sight of Jacob Green in the mirror as she put on makeup. He had awakened sometime and was lazily leaning against the headboard, staring at her without speaking.

Lucy turned and smiled at him, "What’s up?"

"I dreamed about you last night."

"How did I roam in your dream? Tell me more."

"I dreamt you made a table full of dishes, and a bowl of birthday noodles too. You sat alone at our home’s side dining table, eating while crying..."

Lucy was startled and then laughed, "You’re just eager to see me cry, aren’t you? Can’t fulfill it in reality, so you’re looking in dreams?"

"Nonsense." He lifted the thin bedding and got out of bed, dressing himself in an orderly manner, "That’s the last thing I’d want to see."

She turned her head, looking at herself in the mirror somewhat dazed.

Originally intending to put on light makeup, Lucy somehow ended up with a very bright look.

Taking two Chinese pancakes and a bottle of yogurt, she went straight out the door.

Lucy first headed to the shop.

When she saw Mary Pond, she asked with a smile, "How is your father’s health?"

"My father has already passed away."

"A few days ago." Mary replied, "I came here after handling his funeral, haven’t properly thanked you, Lucy. I’ll work hard here, never slack off."

Lucy patted her shoulder, "I see you’re a diligent person. Just do what’s expected, you’ll work till evening, why not move into the shop? There are vacant rooms on the third floor, convenient for getting to work. You’re a young woman, staying here is much safer."

"Is that really okay?"

"Yes, it’s okay. We provide accommodation here."

"You’re welcome." Lucy inquired, "Where did James go?"

"His girlfriend just came and went upstairs."

Lucy nodded, "Okay, I’ll go check."

Sprinting up to the third floor, as Lucy was about to reach James Foster’s door, she heard crying.

Lucy’s steps halted. Why was Chloe White crying? Could they have argued?

She slowed her steps, almost silently approaching the door, only to hear Chloe crying, "James, I have no one else to turn to but you. You’re my boyfriend, if you don’t help, I really don’t know who else can." ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ novel{f}ire.net

"How much are you in need of?"

"Three thousand for surgery, and subsequent treatment costs, the doctor said I’d better prepare fifty thousand in total."

Just as Chloe’s words fell, Lucy pushed the door open.

"Who’s having surgery?"

"My mom." Chloe cried pitifully, "She was hit by a car when she stepped out last night, the driver fled, and my mom is in the hospital now without any funds. I’m still in college, hardly earn money, so I couldn’t possibly come up with the cash, which is why I sought James’s help."

"Which hospital is she in?"

"Third People’s Hospital."

Lucy turned to James, her eyes questioning if he would provide the money?

James showed a look of helplessness.

"James, go with her to the hospital and check on how things are."

"Lucy, I know you’re a doctor at the First People’s Hospital, can you have my mom transferred to your hospital and find her an expert for surgery?"

Lucy smiled slightly, "You’re really taking liberties, instructing so smoothly."

"Oh, come on, you’re James’s good friend, I’m his girlfriend, how are we outsiders?"

Refusing would mean disrespecting James.

Chloe immediately stopped crying, sweet-talking, "Lucy, you’re my sister now, I’d do anything for you."

Lucy smirked, "Do anything for me? Want to show me first?"

Chloe’s smile stiffened, momentarily unsure how to respond.

Lucy wasn’t concerned about her thoughts and turned to leave.

"James, did you see that? She dislikes me."

"If she really disliked you, she wouldn’t help you. Don’t overthink it; let’s visit your mom in the hospital."

Chloe’s mother was successfully relocated to another hospital.

James Foster handled admission formalities and paid the fees for Chloe’s mom.

Because her condition was not good, Chloe’s mom’s attending doctor planned to perform surgery in the afternoon.

At that time, Chloe herself left for class, and James had to return to work. But what about Chloe’s mom?

James hired a caregiver to help look after her.

Chloe’s mom mainly injured her leg, her upper body was lightly injured, so after afternoon surgery, she could chat leisurely with nearby patients and their families to pass the time.
