Chapter 145: Chapter 145
"Then let’s go for a walk."
How could she possibly have a child with this kind of husband? She absolutely wouldn’t.
They took a long walk outside, then separated, and she returned to her room to take a shower.
After getting dressed, Flora sat on the balcony, staring blankly at the birds flying in the sky.
Right now, she isn’t even as free as those birds; at least they are free, while she is just a caged golden bird trapped in the Presidential Mansion.
She dares not hope for too much in the future, only wishing to pass each day safely.
And that would be enough.
By the time Lucy arrived overseas, it was already past four in the afternoon.
She had flown for ten hours.
After arriving at the airport, the group headed to the hotel where they were staying.
Emma stayed in the presidential suite, and since Lucy couldn’t be separated from him, she had to stay there too.
Needless to say, she was consigned to sleeping on the sofa.
She didn’t mind; she wasn’t a stranger to sharing a room with Emma before. Back then, she slept on the carpet, and the current situation was somewhat better.
Lucy instructed Theodore and Ethan to take turns on duty in the lounge, while the others were positioned at the door, rotating in teams of four.
After all, someone needed to stand guard at night.
After a long flight, they naturally took a relaxing bath upon arriving at the hotel. Since the weather was hot, Lucy showered for a few minutes before getting dressed, without washing her hair or face.
Emma, however, took longer to wash; by the time he came out, fifty minutes had passed.
When the food was delivered, Theodore and Ethan used special equipment to check if the food contained any harmful substances before bringing it in for Emma and Lucy to enjoy.
"I really can’t get used to foreign food."
"Isn’t it tasty?" Emma asked, "Then have it replaced."
"No need," Lucy stopped him, "It’s just not what I’m used to, but the taste is alright."
Emma nodded and ate slowly, holding his bowl.
Because he couldn’t see, Lucy helped by putting food into his bowl. "I see the weather changing outside; it’s likely to rain tonight."
"Let’s check the weather forecast after the meal."
The two didn’t have much else to say and ate quietly.
After finishing the meal, Lucy had the dishes taken away, then checked the weather forecast online.
With predictions for every hour.
"If I’m not mistaken, the weather will be bad for the next few days, and it’ll rain around eight tonight."
"No," Lucy denied, "I don’t mind; in fact, I quite like the sound of rain, especially when it rains outside of winter, it feels refreshing going out."
Emma imagined a graceful figure standing at the window watching the rain.
Just as he was about to speak, Lucy’s phone vibrated.
Lucy had purposely silenced the ringtone, leaving only the vibration on. Follow current novels on 𝔫𝔬𝔳𝔢𝔩⁂𝔣𝔦𝔯𝔢⁂𝔫𝔢𝔱
It was Jacob Green calling.
She stood up and walked to the window to answer it, intentionally lowering her voice, "Hello."
Lucy mentioned the name of the hotel quietly, "If no surprises occur, I will be staying here for a while."
"When I got home, you had already left."
"Didn’t you say it would take another two or three days to return?"
"I finished handling my affairs early," Jacob said in a slightly deep voice.
Lucy knew he had returned because of her, feeling a bit of warmth in her heart, "Have you eaten?"
"Without you here, I can’t eat."
Lucy’s heart moved, "Eat well, sleep well, and work hard."
"Just hearing your voice makes me want to see you."
"Until I return, let’s not contact each other..."
She hadn’t finished speaking before he hastily interrupted, "Absolutely not; it’s too difficult for me. No matter what, even if you can’t call, at least text me to let me know you’re safe, remember?"
"That’s not convenient."
Jacob realized that Emma must be nearby and hung up the phone reluctantly without further sweet talk.
Lucy put her phone away, intending to instruct her subordinates to fetch blankets and pillows. Just as she reached the door, Ethan came in carrying a thin blanket and some pillows.
"Miss Eaton, these are the blankets and pillows we brought ourselves." He hesitated to address his young madam as "Miss Eaton," finding it awkward. Yet, while away, he and his companions must do everything possible to protect her as it’s their duty.
She accepted them and was about to place them on the sofa when Emma surprisingly said, "You should sleep on the bed."
"That won’t do." Lucy started making the bed, "You’re a prince; I’m a commoner. How could a commoner sleep on the bed while you sleep on the sofa?"
"Who said I would sleep on the sofa?"
Lucy was taken aback, "Prince, are you suggesting we share the bed?"
"Just using our own blankets," he raised a brow, "Or do you think I’d have improper thoughts about you?"
"Of course I don’t think that. Although the prince leaves half of the bed for me out of consideration, I’m already married, and it’s inappropriate. I appreciate your kindness, but the sofa is fine; it’s better than the carpet."
"Do as you please then."
Lucy didn’t reply; she opened her laptop and started studying the map centered around the hotel where she was staying.
Since she hadn’t spoken for a while, Emma became curious and asked, "What are you doing?"
"Familiarizing myself with the terrain."
"What would the prince like to talk about? Astronomy or geography, I know a bit of everything."
"Who wants to discuss those?" Emma pondered, "I don’t actually know much about you; just talk about yourself."
She looked at the screen and asked, "About what?"
"Everything you can share."
Lucy turned her head towards him. At this moment, Emma was leaning against the headboard, his face directed at her.
If not for knowing he’s blind, Lucy couldn’t have believed that such handsome eyes couldn’t see anything.
"Idleness is idleness, so let’s chat." Except for those long-gone Ainsworth Family matters, she absolutely didn’t want to bring them up again. "Where should I start? Well... let’s start when I got into medical school."
Her pacing was slow, like chit-chatting, as she slowly recounted her university years and her experiences working in a mortuary. After covering academics and work, she began discussing her love life.
"In university, I was pursued, some suitors having wealthy families. But at that time, it wasn’t the right moment for romance for me. I was different from many girls who had family support; I had none, only endless work and studies, no time for love, and so until after starting work, my first love hadn’t yet blossomed."
