Chapter 136: Chapter 136

"How is your daughter’s health recovering?" Emma Bennett personally visited the Prime Minister’s Mansion to inquire about Lucy.

"She’s almost fully recovered, Your Highness, don’t worry." Jackson Baker replied.

Emma Bennett hadn’t left the Presidential Mansion in some time, so she was unaware that Lucy Eaton wasn’t there.

"My son-in-law picked her up and took her to Ningham days ago; she’s not here."

"I don’t have her phone number; could the Prime Minister provide it to me?"

"Of course." Jackson Baker gave him the number.

Emma Bennett kept it in mind, and after leaving the Prime Minister’s Mansion, he went to a phone booth to call her using a public phone.

He tried twice and couldn’t connect, but it was answered on the third try.

"It’s me. I got your number from the Prime Minister. How is your health?"

She recognized his voice and saw that the call came from a public number; he used a public phone instead of his mobile, indicating his caution.

"I’m fine, thanks for your concern, Your Highness."

"No need to thank me. Are you planning to come to Northriver anytime soon?" Emma Bennett asked.

"I’ll be visiting my parents, what’s the matter?"

"If you’re coming to Northriver, give me a call. Let me give you my phone number."

Lucy Eaton didn’t understand why she needed to call him if she was going to Northriver, but she noted his number, "Do you have something important, Your Highness?"

"Yes indeed, I need to have a face-to-face meeting with you and your father. When you have time, we can talk." Emma Bennett agreed.

Emma Bennett hung up the phone and dialed a few random numbers before leaving the phone booth, and Nick asked, "Did Your Highness call Lucy?"

"Yes, I asked about her situation. Without her, neither of us would have made it out alive."

"But saying that, if we hadn’t saved her initially, she wouldn’t be alive now either."

"Remember what others have done for you, don’t just focus on what you have done for others. If we hadn’t saved her back then, she might not have died, but if it weren’t for her saving us this time, we would be definitely dead."

"You are right, Your Highness." Though Nick disagreed inwardly, he concurred.

"Back to the Presidential Mansion."

The group hurried back, and at the gate, Nick whispered, "Your Highness has arrived."

Emma Bennett remained calm and entered slowly.

"Where did Second Brother go?"

"Out for a stroll; how come you’re visiting me, Big Brother?"

Arthur Bennett smiled, "It’s been a while since I’ve seen you, Second Brother. I had some free time, so I came to see you. I heard you’ve had trouble sleeping, has it improved now?"

The brothers sat together, and Arthur Bennett asked with concern, "Father told me yesterday that there is an outstanding ophthalmologist overseas and suggested you go see him. Did you hear from Father?"

"Yes, Father mentioned it, but after so many years, my eyes certainly can’t be cured, I haven’t held any hope." New ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄhapters are published on 𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙡•𝔣𝔦𝔯𝔢•𝕟𝕖𝕥

"Don’t say that," Arthur Bennett advised, "No matter how slim the hope, Mom and Dad never gave up on you and always seek doctors for you."

Emma Bennett shook his head, "I know in my heart, I won’t regain my sight in this life. Luckily, with Mom, Dad, and Big Brother, it eases the pain. I’m blind, unable to help them, so you must support Dad diligently, and handle my share as well; it will be a burden to you."

"I will do my utmost, Second Brother. Don’t worry, I have faith you will regain your vision, but you must not give up.’

"Let things happen naturally." Emma Bennett put his hand on his head, showing pain, "My head is starting to hurt again, I’ll speak no more with Big Brother."

"Then go rest, Second Brother. Nick, help your master back to his room." Arthur Bennett instructed.

"Yes." Nick hurriedly complied.

Watching Emma Bennett’s figure enter the house, Arthur Bennett smiled in the courtyard.

This blind brother of his surely couldn’t hold any power or status to compete with him.

Every day he lived was a gift from Arthur.

"Didn’t we just have an employee meeting? Why call another one?"

"Stop asking and hurry up."

The employees gathered at Green Headquarters. Jacob Green, in a suit, quickly ascended the platform.

"This meeting is called for just one thing today."

He paused before continuing, "I heard a rumor yesterday saying Minister Gasol from the Sales Department is my wife. My wife has no ties to Minister Gasol. One thing I hate most is inattention to one’s work and focusing on gossip. This time I’ll overlook it, but if such rumors arise again, I’ll investigate thoroughly, and regardless of who it is, they will be terminated."

Below, Lily Green rubbed her temples; her brother had called a meeting to explain this...

This could have been resolved with an office announcement.

After the meeting, she quickly caught up to him, lowered her voice, "Why not issue a notice instead?"

"I feel it’s more effective to say it personally."

Lily Green gave him a sideways glance, "How quickly have you become subordinate to your wife?"

"Not at all." Jacob Green replied, "I just don’t want anyone mistaking my wife."

"Your wife is truly fortunate." Lily Green remarked, "To have a husband like you, that’s a blessing from three lifetimes."

"Second Sister, are you envious?"

"I am extremely envious. I can hardly wait to go out and find a brother-in-law for you." Lily Green said.

Jacob Green chuckled, "Do you have to be so eager?"

"You don’t understand a single life."

"Why wouldn’t I understand? I went through that stage myself."

"You know that I’ve held off dating to wait for the one I desire." Lily Green sounded dejected when she spoke, "Sometimes I doubt my standards are too high, like many others I should just settle for a mediocre guy and marry, but every time I entertain that thought, a voice in my head tells me, you shouldn’t, you can’t settle down like that, you must marry for love, to justify your perseverance, though I don’t know how long I can hold on. Perhaps one day I won’t, and will go with the flow."
