Chapter 131: Chapter 131
The next day at five o’clock, the sky was already bright, and the three-person family got up early.
Lucy was wearing the sports clothes and sneakers that Liora had prepared for her.
The three of them went mountain climbing.
Laughing and chatting all the way, they amicably reached the mountaintop, where the wind was cool against the face, feeling exceptionally refreshing.
Lucy drank a few sips of mineral water and put the bottle back into her backpack.
Just as they arrived, Jackson received a call from the old Mrs. Baker, saying Mr. Baker was unwell and asking him to return home for a visit.
He intended to go alone, but it wasn’t appropriate for Liora, as a daughter-in-law, to not go, so Jackson asked his daughter, "Do you want to come?"
"It’s better not to go, so as not to get upset." Liora said, "I’ll go back with your dad first. The scenery here is nice. You can wander around and then call the driver to pick you up when you decide to leave."
"No need, it’s easy to catch a cab. I’ll just get a taxi back."
After her parents left, Lucy carried her backpack and sat on a bench to enjoy the scenery in front of her.
She sat for about half an hour as the sun rose high, thinking it would soon get hot.
Taking advantage of the coolness, she decided to head back down the mountain.
Just a little way down from the top, she unexpectedly ran into Emma.
He was accompanied by Nick and several bodyguards on a mountain climbing trip too—such a small world.
"What a coincidence, Your Highness is climbing the mountain too?"
Upon hearing her voice, Emma replied, "Yes."
"I’ve been on the mountaintop for quite a while and am heading down now."
Emma didn’t say anything; though he couldn’t see her, he heard her footsteps moving away.
"Your Highness, let’s go up," Nick quietly suggested.
Lucy had only just descended when she saw another group of people running down from the mountain, each looking panic-stricken and terrified.
"Someone died at the top!"
Lucy thought Emma had several bodyguards with him and should be safe, but not seeing Emma and his group coming down, and considering he had once saved her life, Lucy decided to return.
This return was urgent, as her heart leaped to her throat.
All the bodyguards wearing guard uniforms around Emma were dead, all due to gunshot wounds; no tourists had died. It was clear the assassin was targeting Emma directly. ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ꜰʀᴏᴍ novel·fıre·net
There are only two paths up and down the mountain, and now Emma must have been taken away by the murderer down the other path.
She quickly ran in pursuit.
Light as a swallow, she ran fast and soon found traces of the dozen people.
She hid behind a tree and saw the dozen people split and go separate ways at the fork.
At this point, those holding Emma and Nick numbered only five.
Lucy quietly followed behind, aware they had guns and not daring to alarm them, only sending a message to her father.
Jackson replied immediately upon receiving her message, instructing her to continue tailing them while staying safe, as he was sending people over immediately.
Lucy agreed, thus quietly following, and activating GPS location, sending her position every few minutes.
She guessed these people couldn’t possibly use helicopters to take people away. Without national permit documentation, flying a helicopter domestically would be shot down if discovered, and it was too conspicuous anyhow; hence, she deduced they would go down the mountain by foot and use other hidden means of transportation to flee.
What Lucy didn’t expect was that this group came prepared. When they reached halfway down the mountain, they triggered a mechanism that opened a door in a mountain wall.
To Lucy, this wasn’t accidental but premeditated.
How could they know Emma would come to the mountain?
If he didn’t come, wouldn’t their plan fall through, or did Emma have a habit of mountain climbing, so they were aware of it specifically...
After seeing the mechanism door shut, Lucy sent the address and mentioned the secret door to her father.
Jackson told her to stop and not continue pursuing due to fear she might get implicated.
But Lucy, recalling Emma’s act of saving her life, informed her father that she would be alright.
Following the opponent’s actions in activating the mechanism, she opened the door.
Then she went inside.
It wasn’t pitch black inside where you couldn’t see anything.
There were special night lights, and she cautiously ventured further in.
Following the path, her footsteps were kept light but swift, as she dared not delay.
She continuously sent locations to Jackson, though the signal was poor, requiring multiple attempts to transmit successfully.
Based on the locations, Jackson’s dispatched people quickly narrowed down the area.
Several meters ahead, one of the five men received a call and told his comrades, "The boss instructed us to resolve it here. The outside exits are surrounded."
"Yeah, we’ll finish them both here."
"Boss, spare us!" Nick was evidently terrified.
"Spare you? That’s impossible." The man commanded, "Light a fire; Old Four and Little Five, you two bring over the two big drums of gasoline. Finish them off and cremate on the spot."
Upon hearing this, Nick fainted from fright.
"Second Brother, this guy’s passed out."
"Smart move, saves from suffering." Called Second Brother, he looked at Emma, whose face was pale but forcibly calm, "Though you are the President’s son, you’re nothing compared to us ordinary folks. A blind man really, dying without even knowing how—tragic indeed."
"You want to do it? Then hurry up, why draw it out?"
Lucy admired his courage, likely pondering that live years were void of happiness. Dying might be a relief for him, but with her here, she wouldn’t let him perish, not after he saved her life; she owed him the struggle to save him.
With five men divided as two fetch gasoline, the remaining three, though fewer, were still armed.
But if she didn’t take the risk now, facing those returning with gasoline later would be even tougher.
Lucy deliberated internally again and again, secretly resolved.
She drew Fire Meteor, rapidly rushing over; too sudden, and her blade instantly slashed the neck of the one called Second Brother, severing the man’s carotid artery, blood gushing out, providing only a hiss before collapsing lifeless on the ground.
She then slashed another man’s shoulder and saw the third man’s movement to draw his gun. She raised her leg to kick with leverage against the man’s chest, forcing him to retreat continuously with his gun falling to the ground.
"Who are you, woman?!"
"Your aunt." Lucy’s sudden voice made Emma’s eyelid tremble slightly.
Lucy almost without hesitation stabbed the knife swiftly and accurately into the man’s chest.
