Chapter 123: Chapter 123
"You’ll find out sooner or later." Lucy, catching Jacob Green’s subtle hint, said, "I’m having dinner, I’ll hang up now."
Just as she put the phone back in her bag, she heard Jacob Green leisurely say, "It seems you’re quite eager for me to kiss you in public."
"Just said it casually."
"I took it seriously."
"What if you seriously want to?"
Jacob Green just smiled without saying a word and continued eating.
After dinner, as they were walking to the garage, he suddenly grabbed her wrist, pinned her against a tree, and kissed her.
At least a dozen people were standing within a few meters around them.
Seeing this scene, everyone looked away, stealing smiles.
He let go of her after about a few dozen seconds, looking at her blushing face, he said, "I just seriously wanted to try it, and it felt quite good."
After hearing from John Green about the President and First Lady’s visit to the Green Family, Mia Townsend wanted to immediately go and register their marriage.
She didn’t sleep well last night and got up early to groom herself thoroughly.
Before 7:30, she and John Green showed up at the Civil Affairs Bureau entrance and waited for half an hour before going in to complete the formalities.
After getting the red marriage certificate, she was so excited that she cried.
John Green wiped away her tears, "It’s our happy day today, why are you crying?"
"Because I’m so happy."
"I’ll take you to the old house." John Green said, holding her hand, "My younger sister-in-law will come back for lunch with us, we’ll just stay until noon."
When they arrived at the old house and saw the four elders of the family were there, Mia Townsend felt a bit nervous.
"We’ve already registered our marriage, I’ve prepared the matrimonial home myself, no need for you to worry about it. As for the wedding, Mia and I prefer to keep it low-key, preferably within ten days."
The old Mr. Green nodded with a smile, "Since you’ve registered, we’re family now, don’t let her stand, Mia, have a seat."
"Thank you, Grandpa." Mia Townsend said. It wasn’t true that she wasn’t nervous, or that she didn’t resist the Green family’s elders. It was because of them that she and John were separated for so many years.
But despite her resistance, she only sought peaceful cohabitation and wouldn’t cause trouble.
Mr. Green Sr. spoke, "Even though you have registered, we still must have a meal with your family to get acquainted. It’s a matter of etiquette, so let us know when you can arrange it on your side."
"Dad, there’s no need." Mia replied truthfully, "My relationship with my parents is very strained, we’ve severed ties. No one needs to come from my maternal home."
"Severed ties?" Mr. Green Sr. was a bit surprised, "Why is that?"
Mia was about to explain when John Green answered for her, "Her parents didn’t treat her well. They wanted her to participate in a life-threatening club to buy a house for her brother. She’s lucky to have survived, and gave the one million to her parents, but now she’s no longer in contact with them."
"But isn’t that cutting ties too much?" Mrs. Green Sr., who was already dissatisfied with their status as a granddaughter-in-law, and who had in the past tried to split the couple apart, didn’t hide her words, "If you can abandon your biological parents, what if your father-in-law or mother-in-law need your care one day, how well can you handle it?"
"Mom, come on." Mrs. Green tried to be the mediator, "Parents have the right to bring a child into the world without their consent, shouldn’t children also have the right to make choices due to parental mistreatment?"
"What Mom said is right. But I’m curious, Lucy has also severed ties with her adoptive parents, would Grandma dare to say the same thing to her? Don’t pick on Mia just because she lacks a prominent family background. With me here, nobody in this house can look down on her." John Green held Mia’s hand and added, "It’s best to stop with the attitude."
"Are you deliberately opposing me? When did Grandma give her a hard time? And even if your third sister-in-law is the Prime Minister’s daughter, now that she’s married to the third son, she’s just my granddaughter-in-law, I can say what I want."
"Then be sure to say it at lunch, Grandma." John Green said with a shrug. ᴛʜɪs ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ɪs ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ʙʏ NoveI~Fire.net
"So you think I don’t dare, huh?" Mrs. Green Sr. snorted, "I’ve lived this long, there’s nothing I wouldn’t dare say, just wait and see."
Mrs. Green Sr. indeed did what she said. When Jacob Green and Lucy Eaton returned at noon, she asked Lucy the same questions she had asked Mia Townsend.
Jacob’s face changed, about to defend his little wife, when Lucy calmly answered, "What does it have to do with you?"
At this, Mrs. Green Sr.’s face turned exceptionally ugly. "What... what did you just say? What’s it to me?"
"Isn’t it?" Lucy Eaton said calmly, "How you and Grandpa spend your old age is the responsibility of the parents, and how parents spend their old age is our responsibility as children. By that time, Grandma, you’re likely not around anymore, no need to worry about it."
Mrs. Green Sr. didn’t expect her to say something like that to her, "Is this the conduct of the Prime Minister’s daughter, not respecting elders?"
"Respecting elders depends on who they are." Lucy Eaton said unhurriedly, "If it’s you, Grandma, then let’s skip it."
"You’re too arrogant! I’m Little Third’s grandmother!"
"Why be Jacob Green’s grandmother? I think Nanny Coleman from TV suits you better."
Mrs. Green Sr. was so angry her blood pressure skyrocketed, "You brat!"
"Who are you calling a brat?"
"Calling you a brat!"
Lucy Eaton nodded with a smile, "I also think you’re calling me a brat."
Realizing the grammatical mistake, Mrs. Green Sr. almost fainted from anger.
Lucy Eaton didn’t even want to see the old lady more than necessary.
In her past life, after she lost her child, Mrs. Green Sr. would always make sarcastic comments whenever she saw Lucy Eaton just to spite her. Unfortunately, she didn’t have a husband to back her up then and couldn’t say anything back.
This grudge has lingered in her heart until now, and today, venting it felt incredibly refreshing.
Respect should be reciprocal. If elder people rely on age as a weapon, then sorry, you should counter when necessary.
"Little Third, look at the wife you found, what’s the use of a good family background when she has no manners at all!"
"Grandma, do you not find it contradictory to say ’what’s the use of a good family background’ coming from your mouth?" Jacob Green asked with a sly smile.
Mrs. Green Sr., filled with anger, turned and went back to her room.
Seeing her mother-in-law so exasperated was amusing for Mrs. Green, as no one had ever dared to confront their family’s Empress Dowager this way before. It seemed life was going to be more lively at home from now on.
During the reunion lunch, Mrs. Green Sr. didn’t come out, but it did nothing to dampen the atmosphere. Without her, the family seemed to talk and laugh more freely, which only made Mrs. Green Sr., who was listening in her room, even angrier hearing the laughter outside.
As they were leaving after lunch, John Green smiled and said, "Thanks, sister-in-law, for venting for us."
Lucy was puzzled, "When did I..."
Mia Townsend explained, "Sister Lucy, it’s , this morning when John and I came back, Grandma asked me the same thing she asked you..."
