Chapter 100: Chapter 100
"For me, as long as I love him and he loves me, for now, that’s the best."
When she said this, Charles noticed her smile was very sweet, with the corners of her eyes slightly upturned, and her eyes full of happiness.
He really wanted to see who the man making her smile was.
Not having returned home for lunch, Lucy sent a text to Jacob to let him know.
She openly said that Charles had invited her for lunch, so she wouldn’t be coming home.
Little did she know, upon seeing the text, Jacob walked over to the table and told the old lady, "Grandma, Lucy is having lunch with a male friend and won’t be back for lunch."
"Male friend?" the old lady asked, "Is it that James?"
"No, it’s the president of Sharp Corporation, very handsome and charming."
"Oh? Really?" the old lady said with a smile, "Well, when Lucy returns, Grandma must remind her that as a married woman, she should be mindful of avoiding suspicion."
"No worries, Lucy and him are just friends, I’m not bothered," Jacob reassured the old lady, serving her some food, "Grandma, eat a bit more, this fish is boneless."
James, back from the hospital, was acting quite normal, much to the relief of Robert and Mia who thought he might be upset.
While having lunch, the topic casually came up, and James jokingly said, "The city’s tricks are deep, I want to go back to the countryside. I’ve resigned myself; I’ll have my mom arrange a blind date, find some straightforward country girl and get married."
"Aren’t you seeking love?" Mia asked, "You should find someone you like, otherwise it gets exhausting."
"Love is a luxury. In my parents’ generation, it was all about blind dates and matchmakers, didn’t they live fine for a lifetime? Relationships, after spending enough time together, come naturally."
"But you’ve spent so many years with Lucy, yet nothing has come about?"
"I can only say what came about wasn’t love."
"Actually, I think matchmaking works well." Robert chimed in, "My wife and I got together through a blind date, who can predict fate?"
"That’s right, cheers, buddy, let’s have a drink." James poured some beer, "Cheers."
The three of them clinked glasses and drank up.
After finishing lunch, Mary came over to help clear the dishes, Mia said, "You’ve been busy all morning, go rest, I’ll clean up."
"It’s nothing, Mia, I’m not tired."
"Mia, just let her clean up, it’s her duty," James said as he got up and left.
Actually, he was right, it was Mary’s job to do so.
Her work was washing hair and handling miscellaneous chores.
What are miscellaneous chores? It’s wherever she’s needed, she goes.
Even though James said that, Mia still didn’t let Mary clean up alone, she helped with washing dishes, wiping tables, and sweeping floors.
Once everything was tidied up, the two were about to head upstairs when James came up and handed Mary a black plastic bag, "Here."
James didn’t explain, just turned and went downstairs.
Mia curiously asked, "What is it?"
Who’d have thought when Mary opened it, it turned out to be a pack of sanitary pads.
Mia instinctively looked behind Mary and said, "Oh! Your period came."
Mary turned around, her face instantly flushed red, and quickly went back to her room.
Mia chuckled, muttering, "James is really thoughtful."
Mary went back to her room to busy herself with changing clothes.
No wonder when preparing for lunch earlier, her waist felt sore and lower abdomen a bit uncomfortable, turns out her period came, she hadn’t noticed.
She usually had a punctual cycle, today’s early arrival by a week caught her off guard.
The bleeding wasn’t much, just a little, but it soaked through her pants.
Thinking of James seeing the blood on her pants, she wished she could find a hole to crawl into.
But remembering his action, she felt warm-hearted.
He actually bought her a pack of sanitary pads.
She felt she couldn’t face anyone.
But she had to go out eventually.
Going downstairs, she kept her head down, James saw her bashful act and thought nothing of it.
Before, he had bought some for Lucy.
Hearing the wife call his name, Jacob knew she was coming to settle accounts, sure enough, her next question was, "What did you tell Grandma?"
"What did I say?" Jacob feigned innocence, "What could I say?"
"I told Grandma you weren’t coming back for lunch, and were having lunch with a male friend. Grandma asked if it was James, I said no, said it was the president of Sharp Corporation, both handsome and charming, so? Didn’t husband say it right?"
Lucy was at a loss for words, "You did it on purpose."
"I purposefully made you guys have lunch?"
"Not talking to you anymore."
Jacob grabbed her wrist and pulled her onto his lap, "You’re allowed to eat with single men, but I’m not allowed to be jealous?"
Lucy turned anger into laughter, "Isn’t that silly? What’s there to be jealous about?"
Lucy cupped his face with both hands, "Don’t overthink it, it’s just a normal meal between friends."
"Actually I know that too, otherwise I’d have taken you away long ago."
"I think you just don’t like Charles."
He admitted, "I do have opinions about him."
"I’m not involved in your business matters, you’re my husband, he’s my friend, that’s how it is in my heart."
Jacob voluntarily changed the subject, "Enough about this, how was work today?"
Lucy talked about Chloe’s situation, "Seeing Chloe’s mom’s shameless face, I really wanted to make her disabled for life."
"They lost face and soldiers, probably anguished to death, why bother with such people, after all, there are quite a few like them."
"Treating James is Chloe’s loss." The source of this content ɪs novel·fire·net
"Knock, knock, knock," Nathaniel Green’s voice came from outside, "Sir, Stellan Quinn is here, begging to see you."
Lucy raised her eyebrows, "Why see you? If for her mom’s matter, shouldn’t she be seeking me?"
"Maybe she thinks pleading with me would be easier?" He instructed Nathaniel Green outside, "Send her away, I’m not seeing her."
Nathaniel Green expected this outcome, he conveyed the exact message to Stellan, "Sir will not see you."
Before coming, Stellan knew this would be the result, but she still wanted to try her luck. Unexpectedly, Jacob was completely heartless, not even giving her a chance to speak for help.
That was wishful thinking.
She left disappointed.
And went to Grace Hughes’s place.
