Chapter 13: Chapter 13

Lawrence

I sat down on the bleachers watching the team do their drills, coach barking orders back and forth at the team members. I’m telling you, it’s either in his past life that man was a sailor or he’s just good at fowl words. I smile at the thought. My sixth sense triggered, telling me I have eyes on me. I search the field wanting to know who is watching me. Austin. Why did I not think it’s him? He stood with his helmet on and training vest. I knew behind the helmet he wore is his usual arrogant smirk. He remove his helmet resting it on his hips, I shake my head playfully anticipating what he wants to do next. He point his hand to his lips which start moving immediately.

“How are you?” He mouths to me emphasizing the ‘You’ by pointing to me. This is just so middle school. I chuckle replying with the same manner.

“I’m fine and you?” He shrugs making a sad face, his hand came to his eyes wiping an invincible tear. “What is wrong?” I mouth to him.

“I miss you.” He replies hugging himself. Yup he’s crazy and that is officially my next reply, but, instead of to mouth it. I did a crazy eye roll using my Index to make a roll at my head.

He burst out laughing running towards me.

“Missing me already that you had to come watch me train, huh Snoopy?” He says cockily resting his elbows on the iron fence.

“In your dreams Austin.” I cross a leg over the other flipping my hair with a present smirk.

“Growing some lady balls huh?”

“I guess when you hang out with the captain of the team, you tend to pick up one or two things.” He smirk.

“I think I’m rubbing off on you Snoopy.”

Feeling confident, I uncross my leg standing up. He watches me like a hawk, coming down the bleachers walking straight to him. Since he’s just so tall and huge for his age, towering over the fence and me, I had to look up with a daring smirk then tiptoe to reach his left ear saying huskily.

“I know so.”

His eyes shines for a moment there seeming dark and dangerous and I couldn’t help the fits of laughter that came after. I laugh so hard that I had to clutch my stomach.

“That was a good one Snoopy. Didn’t see it coming.” He smiles running his hand through his tousled hair.

“I bet you didn’t.” I brush my hair behind my ear smiling up at him.

“Tell me, who are you waiting for?” He tries again.

“Just a friend.”

“Your boyfriend?” I scoff.

“I told you I don’t have a boyfriend Austin.” I say rather defensively.

“So it’s a boy.” Groaning, tired of this twenty one question.

“Who is he? Someone I may know.” his voice sound offensive.

“You won’t give up, will you?” The look on his face answered me. “It’s Lawrence.”

“Lawrence?” He said as if it’s the most absurd thing ever. “Preppy Lawrence.”

“Can you please stop calling him that? He’s my friend and I don’t like it.” I frown. He got silent looking at me.

“What does he want?” Gone was the cocky Austin, say hello to annoying, arrogant and rude Austin.

“Nothing that concerns you.” I look away trying not to get angry.

“Mary-Vienne!” He barks my name causing me to flinch in fright. “I ask, what does he want?” his deep voice held edge as he spoke.

“He offered to give me a ride home.” If that vein twitch ONE more time, it may pop.

“Why?”

“Because I didn’t take my car today.” Why is he acting weird with the confusing questions?

“Mary-Vienne!” I hear the cry of my name. We both turn and there stood Lawrence and his smile to die for. I won’t lie, this boy is so cute, too cute. If the girls in school are not fawning over him, they are fawning over Austin. It’s a fifty, fifty score. Bailey says he charms them but I believe it’s his curly mop of golden locks, big brown eyes and fair skin, oh let’s not forget his charisma. Austin and he share the same height difference but where he lack in body, Austin had it, that’s because he’s a player.

“I’m ready to go.” He shout au so loudly I mentally slap myself.

“Coming!” I called back nervously looking at a very angry Austin. What did I do now?

“You are not going anywhere with him.” He grits out getting me angry. Who is he to tell me what to do? I've never told to stop hanging out with his friends so why play that card on me.

“Austin I don’t know what have come over you but I have to go. Clearly your bipolar mood swings just hit right now.” His anger disappeared and a solemn look makes me worried. “You sure you are okay?” He doesn’t respond just kept glaring at Lawrence.

“I don’t like him.” He spoke finally.

“That’s it? You don’t like him.” I threw my hands in the air fed up. “Just like you, I also have friends Austin. Friends who matters a lot to me. Live with it.” I walk away pissed. Why can’t we just get along for a whole day like yesterday? Must he always get me angry? Does he do it on purpose?

“Snoopy, Snoopy.” I felt his hand grip mine. When did he get here? It doesn't matter.

“Stop it Austin, just stop it.” I remove my hand from his getting angry as the seconds tick.

“Please. Try to understand.” He begs. Why is he acting like this? Before I could vomit the words; understand what? I got caught out.

“Is something wrong?” Lawrence.

“Hi M.V.” he beams at me. yeah he calls me that, deal with it.

“M.V?” Austin scoff. “You don’t have anything better to do pretty boy than barge into a conversation you not so welcomed.”

“Oh! Austin! You are here. Sorry man didn’t see you.” He smile feigning surprise at Austin who didn’t find it funny at all.

“I can take you home. Just wait for me a little longer.” Austin begs taking my hands in his again as if sticking a claim while glaring dynamites at Lawrence.

“Don’t worry she’s very safe riding with me.” Lawrence interjected in all smiles.

“I wasn’t talking to your preppy ass. So shut your fucking mouth.” he grits, anger laced in his words.

“Austin!” I caution, alarmed by his sudden rudeness.

“Mahone! Get your sorry behind here NOW!” Coach barks at Austin who seem to be having an internal battle with himself. A triumphant smile stayed glued on Lawrence face.

“Yeah Captain Quarterback. Why don’t you get your sorry behind back in the field?” Lawrence taunts him. Please no fight. Please no fight. I scream in my mind when Austin eyes narrowed at Lawrence which seem dark in anger but Lawrence kept smiling fixing his hand comfortably on my shoulders. Austin follows the hand movements looking primal in rage.

“Mahone!” Coach calls again in warning, his attention now on us. This pissing contest needs to stop. No one will believe I had nothing to do with whatever grudge they hold against each other. To save myself from high school gossip I say.

“I don’t know what is going on here or between the both of you, but you;” I point at Lawrence, “stop taunting Austin and get your hands off my shoulders.” I remove it myself, I notice the satisfied smile on Austin face when I did that. “And you.” cutting off the smile on his face; “you don’t have any right to order me around so whatever mood swing is going on right now with you, fix it.” I huff glaring at the two most handsome boys in my school who towered over my petite form. Well the smile is off their faces. Grown up boys acting like children.

Totally pissed with their behavior.

“I’m leaving so enjoy your pissing contest. You two can fight all you want. Meet me in the car when you are done Lawrence.” I walk away pissed at Austin who love having mood swings and Lawrence who kept taunting him.

“Boys are so annoying!” I scream walking faster getting weird eyes on me and I glared at them.
