Chapter 99: Chapter 99
At MystiArt Productions…
The Arts Department was quiet and peaceful… and also a bit boring.
The employees were working their ass off, so they didn’t have time to gossip about it. But no one could deny that the girl’s absence was serving as a huge distraction to them.
This time, they thought that was it. Maybe Ms. Lin had finally had enough. She lost the fight and Mr. Wang’s daughter emerged as the winner.
Layla was disheartened, glancing at the now-empty cubicle next to hers. Since Annie started working in the company, she had never missed one day of work.
Her absence today could only mean one thing, right?
The girl had quit, and she didn’t even know. Layla had called her during the weekend, and Annie assured her she was alright. If she really quit, she would inform her. Yet, Annie didn’t.
Layla was both confused and sad. Seriously, she didn’t know what possessed her brother. If he had been rational, If he hadn’t married that witch, none of these would have happened.
“Hey, stop staring at me like that, Dear Sister-in-law. It makes me wonder if you had a terrible dream about me last night.” Priscilla was extra happy this morning. She never stopped smiling after coming to work and finding out that Annie didn’t come.
“You’re already a nightmare as it is. If I dare dream about you, won’t I wake up with a heart attack?”
Priscilla didn’t mind Layla’s harsh words. She turned to the other employees and announced,
“You have all seen what happens to anyone that dares to cross me! You better mind how you behave in this department from now on. Especially you girls with beady eyes. If anyone looks at my husband, I won’t hesitate to destroy your jobs.”
Priscilla, who had been thinking Annie was too stubborn and would never yield to her, was quite surprised. That girl was just pretending after all. Ha! It served her right. Now she had Jason to herself without worrying about other women threatening her marriage, and she now had the whole of the Arts Department to herself.
Very soon, the department would be expanded to contain many more employees from the Innovation Department. And together with Jason, they would rule it all.
“Mrs. Ju’an, please don’t say that. Mr. Ju’an is too perfect for us, how can we dare dream of snatching him?”
“Mrs. Ju’an is very beautiful. Our beauties can’t be compared to yours. Why would Mr. Ju’an even look at us, then?”
“Mrs. Ju’an, please put your mind at ease. We love our jobs and we won’t try anything funny. Mr. Ju’an is all yours even if you don’t ask.”
“Just go back to your work. I need you to complete at least three projects today. Every employee is now serious in this company, this department shouldn’t be left behind.”
The employees didn’t say another word and they went back to their work. Three projects? That was too much.
While Ms. Lin was the Assistant Manager, she would only give them one project in a day. She wouldn’t even force them to complete it, knowing the hassle of drawing complex characters. How would they be able to complete three projects without losing their minds?
But they dared not complain. How could they when their job was at risk?
“Priscilla, you’re giving everyone assignments. Why aren’t you doing anything yourself? Why do you lazy around all day instead of working on your own projects?” Layla was irritated. There was no way she was going to draw three characters in a day.
“Must I do anything?” Priscilla folded her hands. “I am now the Assistant Manager, so I’m above a normal employee. Basically, you guys will do all the work while I supervise you.”
“But Ms. Lin didn’t treat us like this-“ One employee was so exasperated that she couldn’t control her mouth.
It was only when she finished speaking that she realized what she said. “Oh, I’m so sorry, Mrs. Ju’an. Please I didn’t say anything, It was a slip of tongue.”
Priscilla’s happiness had already died down. Her face turned dark and she strode to the girl’s cubicle.
“Repeat what you say, Sabrina.”
“I- I’m so sorry, Mrs. Ju’an. Please don’t take it to heart-“
*PAK*
Before the girl could complete her words, Priscilla sent a hard slap across her face.
“How dare you mention her name? Are you tired of working here? How dare you compare me to that girl?”
A deafening silence fell in the department. The employees witnessed the scene in shock.
“M-Mrs. Ju’an…” The girl was crying. “H-How could you slap me?”
Slapping someone was like humiliating them in public. Besides, it was forbidden for an employee to hit a colleague in the company.
The employees rarely got into a fight, and the senior ones never even hit the employees under them.
“Do you want to slap me back!” Priscilla snapped. “Aren’t you full of yourself, Sabrina? You think my threats are empty threats, right?”
“Please, Mrs. Ju’an, I said I’m sorry.” The girl went on her knees. “It was a slip of tongue, I’ll never repeat it.”
“No, I must punish you more to prove to others. You guys are still underestimating me in this department.”
The employees watched in shock and pity for the girl as Priscilla brought out her phone and dialed a number.
“Dad-“ She was about to yell into the phone but Layla snatched it from her.
“What kind of a person are you? Priscilla, does this even make sense? Doesn’t she have the right to speak out her mind?”
“Layla, you- give me back my phone.”
“Just let it go!” Layla rolled her eyes. “Would you stop being a meanie for once?”
“You’re supposed to be backing me up, Layla. Why do you go against everything I do? Doesn’t it hurt that they’re looking down on me?”
Layla wanted to laugh. But seriously, she didn’t want to argue with this maniac. She tossed the phone back into her hand and helped Sabrina up. “You claim you love my brother, right? How about you start acting like him and be more forgiving?”
