Chapter 93: Chapter 93

Mr. Zhang stared at the girl hopefully, waiting for her reply. “Come on, Ms. Lin, say something.”

“Mr. Zhang.” Annie shook her head. “What you’re asking for… is impossible?”

“Huh?” Mr. Zhang was a bit confused. Which one was she referring to? Withdrawing the resignation or accepting his confession. Was it perhaps, both?

“Ms. Lin-“

“If Mr. Zhang is asking for a relationship in which we can both respect each other’s wishes, I’ll be more than ready to comply.” Annie stared at him. “However, a romantic relationship is not possible between us. Isn’t Mr. Zhang afraid of the consequences?”

The words hit him like a tone of waves. Mr. Zhang had to compose himself not to lose his mind. Her rejection was a friendly one, why could he hear his heart shattering into a thousand pieces?

“Ms. Lin-“

“You’re a senior colleague in MystiArt Productions so I won’t disrespect Mr. Zhang. I also hope you can respect my wish and stop bringing this up. Whatever Mr. Zhang wants from me, I’m afraid I’ll have to turn it down.”

Mr. Zhang’s heavy sigh resounded in the long hallway. He was rejected again by the girl he liked. What must he do to catch her heart?

This girl didn’t want to give him a chance even now that she was single. Was there something wrong with him?

“But you will still withdraw the resignation, right?” He looked up and asked in a solemn tone.

Annie forced him a smile. “That… I’ll think about it, Mr. Zhang.”

“In that case, please have a nice day.” Mr. Zhang left with dropped shoulders. He could force the girl, but he didn’t even have the heart to.

This girl was just too perfect, how was he going to survive with the thought of not having her?

“Tsk tsk tsk, Mr. Zhang, you’re so pitiful.” A female voice snapped him out of his thoughts. Mr. Zhang looked up to see the woman standing in front of him.

“It is you, Mrs. Huang. Have you been eavesdropping on us?” He gave her a questioning look.

“W- Why would I do that?” Mrs. Huang widened her eyes. “You know me, Mr. Zhang, I’m not that kind of person.”

Mr. Zhang was not in the mood to chitchat with the woman. He waved one hand weakly and resumed walking to the elevator.

Mrs. Huang couldn’t hide her displeasure. It turned out the landlord had a thing for the girl, however, she was arrogant.

If Mrs. Huang wasn’t a bit older than the man, she would have given anything to chase after him. Urgh! That girl was really using her beauty to do as she pleased with men.

Mrs. Huang hoped that Mr. Zhang would at least be mad at the girl, yet, the man was acting like a chicken.

If Mr. Zhang was at least displeased with her, wouldn’t Mrs. Huang finally have peace? The girl would lose the landlord’s favor, and she could do as she pleased again. Because even if the girl reported her, the landlord would probably not believe her.

.

When evening approached, Annie stared at the wall clock in the living room. She was fully dressed and was about to leave the apartment, but the man wasn’t back yet.

Knowing that he had the keys, she simply shrugged and went out.

Standing in front of the street, she held out her hand to stop a taxi which took her to a mall not from the district.

Annie spent some time shopping for some souvenirs. She wasn’t even sure if they would be enough, so she bought a lot.

While picking what she needed, the feeling of someone watching her suddenly crept up her mind.

Annie straightened up and put on a frown. She looked behind her but there was no one staring at her.

The people inside the mall were all minding their business.

She resumed shopping, but this time the girl was cautious. She could still feel the gaze on her back, and she quickly paid for the things and left the mall.

After stopping a taxi, she asked the man to drive ahead, instead of turning around and heading straight to the X District Apartment Building.

“Where exactly are we going, Miss?” The taxi driver looked exasperated.

They had been on the road for some time now and the girl didn’t give him a concrete direction. She just asked him to keep driving.

“There’s a car behind us.” Annie glanced at the rear mirror and could still see the car following them. Strangely, the car only started driving when she left the mall.

The taxi driver looked at the car through the sideways mirror. The man frowned and accelerated the car. “Are they bad people? If you don’t mind, Miss, I can take you to the police headquarters.”

Annie wasn’t sure if they were bad people. She just had an uncomfortable feeling in her heart.

She finally made up her mind and took in a deep breath. “Just take me to X District.”

The taxi driver found it strange. He didn’t refute her order though. And as he turned the car around to take a different route towards X District, the car which had been following them suddenly disappeared.

When they arrived at the apartment building, Annie’s heartbeat eased down. She paid the taxi man and then picked up the bags and walked towards the building.

“Isn’t this Mrs. Lin’s pretty angel?”

“It feels like ages since we saw you last, Annie. Have you been faring well?”

“Why do you even ask? The girl is glowing, she must be living happily in her new place. Annie, I thought you were going to forget about us.”

In the evening, the Apartment Building was more jampacked by people as everyone mingled outside. Since it was the weekend, they were all at home.

As always, the X District Apartment Building was bustling. The renovation was also to their advantage because they could now sit under the newly installed canopies.

“Annie, we missed you, you know. We also hope you can move back here since the evil Mr. Su no longer bothers us.”
