Chapter 90: Chapter 90

“Ms. Lin, wait.”

“Please listen to me, Ms. Lin.”

“Ah, Ms. Lin, don’t go.”

Mr. Zhang could be seen chasing after the girl frantically. The man looked as if he was about to lose a precious treasure as he hurried after her, not minding the employees giving him strange looks.

“You have to listen to me, Ms. Lin, it hasn’t come to that. Please wait.” Even inside the elevator, the girl didn’t listen to him and Mr. Zhang had to hurry after her out of the company.

“Ms. Lin, please listen.” Mr. Zhang had no choice but to stop in front of her, spreading his arms wide.

The man was panting heavily. In the evening, the parking lot was especially cold, however, sweat poured from his face.

Annie put on a helpless look. “Mr. Zhang, my resignation is not worth making a scene about. You couldn’t do what I asked you, so-“

“Please don’t say that, Ms. Lin. I swear I did my best.” Mr. Zhang cupped his palms together. “You can’t resign, you have to reconsider. If you resign from MystiArt Productions, how will I be able to- I mean, how will the company be able to survive?”

His words sounded funny, making Annie laugh softly.

“Please, Mr. Zhang, I’m not an important employee in this company. My resignation won’t affect anyone, I’m sure. If Mr. Zhang could leave me alone…”

“No no, you can’t go, Ms. Lin.” Mr. Zhang was almost begging on his knees. “Remember I promised you I’ll give you everything if you join the HR Department. Forget about being an assistant, I will even let go of my position for you. All I ask for you is to reconsider. Please withdraw your resignation and ask for a transfer instead.”

In the dark parking lot, Mr. Zhang couldn’t read the girl’s expression. His heart pounded in anticipation, and he gave her a hopeful look.

“You must know by now that I care about your well-being, Ms. Lin. If you leave MystiArt Productions, you won’t find a better company in this whole city. The salary is good, and the working atmosphere is improving every day. Don’t let go of such benefits.”

“The decision is mine, Mr. Zhang. Sometimes, it is not the benefits that matter.”

“Ayyah, I understand what you mean.” Mr. Zhang gave her a pitiful look. “It is okay if you don’t want to continue seeing those people who have wronged you. But Ms. Lin must know that if someone breaks your heart, it might be because you are destined to find someone better. If you don’t wish to see Mr. Ju’an and Mr. Wang’s daughter anymore, the best thing to do isn’t quitting. You can just transfer to my Department.”

“Be rest assured, Mr. Zhang. That isn’t my reason for quitting.”

Staring at the girl, Mr. Zhang felt hopeless. What else should he say to convince her? Didn’t she realize that her absence from the company would cost him his heart?

If she didn’t transfer to his department, how would he be able to court her properly?

“Annie.” Mr. Zhang decided to shed his mask. “You can’t go, please. Must I spell out my intention?”

“What does Mr. Zhang want?”

“It is obvious.” The man sighed. “And unlike before, you can’t give me any excuse that you’re already with someone. Please allow me to treat you justly. Just come to the HR Department.”

Mr. Zhang hoped he could read the girl’s expression. He hoped he could hear what she was thinking. Right now, his heart was beating so hard that he feared it would fly out of his chest. He didn’t want to gamble her trust, yet, he couldn’t live with the fact that she wanted to leave.

He waited for her to reject him like last time. He even waited to be reprimanded. With his heart in his throat, Mr. Zhang hoped more than anything that she would agree.

In the end, he got no reaction from the girl. She just smiled at him and bid him goodnight before walking away.

But Mr. Zhang couldn’t give up yet. Quickly, he hurried after her and brought out his car keys.

“Ms. Lin should at least let me drive her home.”

And this way, maybe he would be able to convince her inside the car.

.

As Mr. Zhang’s car drove away, a particular spot in the parking lot was freezing cold.

Assistant Jiang shivered and gulped. He wanted more than anything to run away. “M-Mr. Lim.”

Just now, the man had witnessed another man confessing to his wife. Assistant Jiang didn’t need to read his expression to understand that he was angry. The man was raging mad, even.

A few minutes ago, they were on their way to the parking lot when they heard noises. Attributing it to one of the employees, the assistant didn’t suspect anything.

It was only when they could make out the two figures that Mrs. Lim’s voice became prominent, taking both men by surprise.

While the assistant was waiting for his boss to react, the man only stared at the two figures with a narrowed cold look.

Even as the two finally left in Mr. Zhang’s car, the man didn’t move from his spot, but his eyes followed the car.

And the assistant wondered why his boss didn’t walk forward to surprise them. Saying he was mad was an understatement.

However, who was he actually mad at? Was it Mrs. Lim or Mr. Zhang? Or was it both of them?

Otherwise, Assistant Jiang wondered if his boss was also mad at him, because the man’s cold look settled on him after the car left. His boss was now glaring at him and he didn’t even know what he did wrong.

“Assistant Jiang, do I have to seek your permission before entering my own car?” Obviously, the assistant was blocking the door to the backseat.

“Huh?” Assistant Jiang couldn’t mask his surprise.

Was his anxiety for nothing? It turned out the man was only mad because the assistant had been blocking the door. But how true was that?

“Scram.”

Assistant Jiang didn’t waste another second. He quickly held the door open and the man entered it. Carefully, he closed the door and bid him good night.
