Chapter 81: Chapter 81

“Assistiang Jiang, I didn’t know part of your job is breaking into people’s apartments.” Annie dropped the vase and stared at the guy.

“Hehe, Mrs. Lim-“ Assistant Jiang scratched his head nervously. “Actually, Mr. Lim has the keys. In fact-“

Assistant Jiang didn’t finish speaking because a sound came from the bedroom and they both looked in that direction.

The man was wearing a dark t-shirt, a great contrast to his fair skin which seemed to be sparkling. Tiny droplets of water clung on to his hair as if he had just taken a bath.

Annie blinked and her mind went back to the familiar figure she had seen on her way out of the store. Within a few seconds, no one spoke.

Assistant Jiang cleared his throat and carefully picked up the flower vase and went to the living room with it. Wasn’t the couple supposed to be jumping on each other shedding tears of joy after being separated for more than a month? Ah, how could he forget the kind of relationship his Boss shared with Mrs. Lim?

“Mr. Lim, you can’t go in and out of my apartment the way you please. Don’t you think what are you doing is a criminal act?”

“Is that what you were going to say? Didn’t you miss my presence, Mrs. Lim?” Suddenly, the man caged in on her, taking her unaware.

Annie found herself pressed to the wall while both of his hands were placed above her head. “What do you think you’re doing?”

“What does it seem like?” His deep voice resounded in her ears. Leaning downward, his breath fanned her neck and Annie shut her eyes to control her heartbeat.

“Get away from me, Mr. Lim. Stop acting like a hoodlum.” She couldn’t even bring her hands up to push him away for some reason. As the scent from his body sipped into her nose, strange things were happening to her body.

“M-Mr. Lim.” Assistant Jiang walked back from the living room and was shocked to see the couple’s awkward position. He blinked and opened his mouth, but no words came out.

Seeing the assistant staring at them with an awed look on his face, Annie broke out of the binding spell and pushed away. “That is despicable of you. Next time, I’ll call the security.”

She hurried into her bedroom and was surprised to see the man’s things on her bed.

.

Outside, Assistang Jiang sighed in disappointment. He expected anything from the couple but not a fight. By the way, his Boss did not look mad. Maybe this was his way of flirting with his wife.

“Why are you standing there?” Andrew threw the assistant a look.

“Ah, I’m so sorry, Mr. Lim. I’ll check on the food now.” Assistant Jiang rushed into the kitchen with the grocery bags.

It was as if Mrs. Lim knew he needed some ingredients. She bought everything, how fortunate.

Andrew’s eyes went to the bedroom’s door and they lingered there. He headed in that direction and walked into the bedroom to meet an empty space.

His clothes which were on the bed were no longer there either. Hearing the sound of rushing water from the bathroom, the man frowned a bit and walked to the door. He turned the doorknob and found out it was locked.

After standing there for some seconds, he walked out to the living room. Some minutes later, he came back to the bedroom and still found the door locked.

“Mrs. Lim, do you think you can hide in there forever?” Seeing that she was taking too long, Andrew called out.

“Tell me the reason why I should hide from you.” Annie stepped out of the bathroom in a large robe.

Because she had decided to take her time and even washed her hair, she almost took an hour inside the bathroom. “Mr. Lim, you look so anxious. Is there something you want to tell me?”

Her hair was dripping wet, dampening the side of her face. It was darker tonight, highlighting her fair skin.

Annie grabbed a towel from the wrack and wrapped her hair with it. “Since Mr. Lim has nothing to say, please excuse me.”

She walked past him and sat in front of the vanity mirror.

“Where are my things, Annie?” Andrew asked as if finally finding his voice. When he returned, the man was quite surprised to see his things in her room. He was somehow even delighted, not expecting that she would move them away.

“I’ve packed your things in a corner,” Annie answered without looking away from the mirror. “Later, I’ll transfer them back to the guest room before Mr. Lim moves out tomorrow.”

Because Dylan and her mother would visit once in a while, Annie was cautious not to leave his things in the guestroom.

What was on Andrew’s mind was the girl’s last statement. “You want me to move out?” he asked.

Annie didn’t hesitate to nod.

Suddenly, a storm appeared in his eyes and he glared at her back. “In your dreams, Annabelle.”

Outside the bedroom, Assistant Jiang sighed.

He was sitting on the dining table with the food which had almost turned cold. When he saw his boss coming out with an angry look, the assistant shuddered.

The man who looked as calm as a breeze moments ago now looked as if he would take down the building. Assistant Jiang trusted Mrs. Lim to get on her husband’s nerves. The couple was too strange, he couldn’t find a word to describe them.

Quickly, he served the food on a plate and placed it in front of the man with some utensils. However, his Boss only ate a few spoonfuls before pushing the food away.

“Assistant Jiang, who owns this apartment building?”

Assistant Jiang was surprised by his question, but he quickly brought out his phone and browsed. When he saw the owner’s name, he gulped.

“M-Mr. Lim, it turns out Mr. Zhang from the HR Department…”

Assistant Jiang didn’t complete his words.

“Mr. Zhang, huh?” Andrew chuckled. No one could tell what he was thinking.

Immediately, the storm in his eyes disappeared and he resumed eating slowly. Even when Annie emerged from the bedroom and went inside the kitchen, the man didn’t look up.

She prepared her own food, declining Assistant Jiang’s offer, and the assistant was more than happy to finish all the food, recalling how he had starved all the way from the other city.

When his Boss was done eating, he packed the plates away and cleaned them in the kitchen. He bid the couple good night and left before the storm would erupt.

Assistant Jiang wasn’t comfortable with the man’s calmness. He had a feeling Mrs. Lim was in trouble.

“Annabelle, are you so impatient that you can’t wait for a year? You really are capricious, aren’t you?”
