Chapter 57: Chapter 57

Assistant Jiang was on his way to the CEO’s office. With his tablet in one hand, he hastily fastened his necktie with his other hand.

The assistant ignored the secretaries who had grown an interest in flattering him too much recently. He was in a hurry to reach his Boss’s office, and he was also distracted by the gossip going on in the company’s forum.

The more the employees spoke about Mrs. Lim, the more wary the assistant got. He contemplated whether to show it to his Boss or not. But wouldn’t it be like getting out of the frying pan into the fire?

The assistant had just escaped the wrath of his Boss. Because of his carelessness, he had hired a foolish man to overlook his Boss’s property. And the man almost tainted his Boss’s reputation.

If Mr. Lim hadn’t called, later on, asking for Assistant Jiang to be released, he would have spent the night in the police custody just like the constable stated. Mr. Su’s actions were partly the assistant’s fault, and he had to bear the consequences.

Deep in his thoughts, Assistant Jiang did not expect to bump into his Boss on his way to the office.

Andrew was about to check on the secretaries who seemed too lazy and preferred doing whatever they were fond of apart from their jobs.

Normally, Assistant Jiang would get the reports from the secretaries every morning. However, the assistant was late. And Andrew had been waiting for almost an hour now for the reports. He decided to go to the secretaries himself and give them an earful.

Now that the assistant was in his presence, he rained his anger on the guy instead.

“Assistant Jiang, do you walk with your legs or head?”

Assistant Jiang flinched and quickly hid the tablet. “M-Mr. Lim, Boss. I hope you slept well- I mean, did you have a great night?”

Mentioning the word ‘Sleep’ was like waking the beast inside the man. Assistant Jiang quickly corrected himself, masking his fear with a wide smile.

“You.” Nevertheless, the assistant had angered the man again.

Andrew’s eyes went to his hands and they narrowed into slits. Before Assistant Jiang could register anything, the man suddenly snatched the tablet from him.

“I should seize this from you. You appear to love it more than your job.” After taking the tablet, the first thing Andrew wanted to do was to turn it off and lock it away. Until his eyes settled on the tablet’s screen.

The data was turned on, and many message notifications popped up on the screen. The notifications were all from the company’s forum.

Curious about what the employees might be up to, Andrew went back to his swivel chair with a big frown on his face. His once angry look was replaced by a confused look on his face.

In his mind, something huge must have happened in the company which was why the employees were in an uproar. So the man was very focused as he read the news. Then, his expression began changing when he looked at the comments.

Assistant Jiang wanted to flee from the office. It was too late to stop the man. His Boss, who probably hadn’t ever interacted in the company’s forum, didn’t know that the employees were usually interested in such minor gossip.

What scared him the most was: The minor gossip airing today was about Mrs. Lim.

“Hehe.”

When his Boss laughed, Assistang Jiang didn’t linger there any further. Even before the man could bring his attention to him, he fled out of the office.

“Hey, Assistant Jiang.”

“You look so good today, Assistant Jiang. Didn’t you hear us while we were greeting you?”

“Assistant Jiang, the reports are ready. Aren’t you going to take them to the CEO?”

The assistant’s initial plan was to run into the elevator and maybe go back to the police custody and hide in one of the cells.

Since his Boss’s mood swings started, the man had never laughed when he was angry. Assistant Jiang didn’t worry about his tablet’s fate, he was more worried about his own life.

However, on second thought, the assistant could linger in the secretries’ area. Maybe his Boss’s anger would cool off soon. When the man was done throwing tantrums, he could go and maybe gather his already broken tablet.

“It’s not hot in here. Why are you sweating, Assistant Jiang?” One of the secretaries asked.

“Assistant Jiang is acting weird this morning. Are you perhaps not well?”

“Assistant Jiang, how could you not take care of your health? It will sadden us if you suddenly fall sick.”

“You know how much we care about you, Assistant Jiang.”

Assistant Jiang brought out a hankie and wiped his sweat, ignoring the girl’s fake smiles. He took the reports from the head secretary and found a corner to stand.

“Hehe, are you here to hang out with us, Assistang Jiang?”

“Maybe the CEO wants to be alone. Assistant Jiang, we can keep you company.”

“By the way, we have been wanting to ask our dear Assistant Jiang some questions about the CEO. Would you be nice to tell us some of the CEO’s hobbies?”

Did always getting angry count as a hobby?

Assistant Jiang wasn’t ready to answer the secretaries’ questions anyway. He acted as if he didn’t even hear them by bringing out his phone.

“Come on, Assistant Jiang, are we not friends anymore?” The girls kept pestering him.

“Are you in a bad mood, Assistant Jiang? If you can’t answer us now, we can ask you later, right?”

“Assistant Jiang-“

The last girl didn’t continue speaking. Suddenly, the CEO’s area was like a cemetery. None of them uttered a word and only the sounds of footsteps could be heard.

The CEO, seemingly angry, didn’t spare them a glance though. He was heading to the general elevator in large strides.

Some of the secretries quivered from the sudden drop in temperature. All of them were wondering who got on the Boss’s bad side.

As for Assistant Jiang, he used that chance to go back into the office and gather his broken tablet.
