Chapter 21: Chapter 21
“Honey, calm down. Don’t let this affect your blood pressure.”
“How do you expect me to calm down! Those people are tired of their lives!”
In a large living room, Mr. Wang paced back and forth, his hands shaking and his eyes red with anger. While his wife followed him around, trying to cajole him.
Sitting on the floor was Priscilla, whose wails filled the living room. Her tears poured like a dam and her face looked disfigured from crying for too long.
“Dad, you must seek justice for me! What did I do wrong? I only told Jason the true feelings of my heart!”
“Hey, Dear. It’s okay.” Her mother knelt in front of her and patted her back. “See, your eyes are swollen. If you cry too much, you’ll be unrecognizable.”
“Argh! Don’t touch me!” Priscilla yelled. “I have to put those people in their shoes. Dad, you must help me!” She looked toward her father.
But Mr. Wang was fuming mad, he couldn’t even talk. The man patted his chest, holding back his rage. He felt so devasted to see his daughter like this.
The only thing on his mind was how to get back at those people who poked fun at his daughter. But there were more than a thousand employees in MystiArt Productions. If only he could fire all of them at once!
For his daughter, Mr. Wang could do anything. After all, she was his only precious princess.
“Don’t worry, Dear. Dad will do something.” He finally knelt his front of his daughter after calming some of his anger.
“But how are you gonna get back at them!?” Priscilla wailed.
The man scratched his head, seemingly speechless. “About that…”
“Argh!” Priscilla grabbed her hair and yelled, startling the couple. “I don’t care about anything! I just want Jason, Dad! It is all her fault! That girl did it on purpose. In the whole Arts Department, everyone knows my feelings for Jason, yet she dared snatch my man!”
“But that boy, Dear…” Mr. Wang and his wife looked at each other and frowned.
It was obvious that the man didn’t like that idea. Everyone knew that he didn’t get along well with the boy because of his constant requests to merge the Arts Department and the Innovation Department.
“Do you still care about wealth?” Priscilla looked at her father and understood what he was thinking. “I am your daughter, Dad. What you should be caring about is my happiness! I swear if I don’t marry him, I’ll fall from the rooftop of the company!”
Ah!
Mr. Wang and Mrs. Wang were more devasted. The idea of losing their only daughter was like a huge stroke to them.
“Honey, please do something!” Mrs. Wang pleaded frantically. “Even if our daughter wants the whole world, won’t you do your best to give it to her?”
Of course, Mr. Wang would do that!
After many years of being childless, they were finally blessed with their precious angel. How could he fold his hands and watch her drawn in bitterness?
Therefore, while Priscilla wailed like a baby, he picked up his phone and walked out to the balcony to make a call.
“Old Wu, you still call the shots in MystiArt Productions, right?” He started immediately the call was answered.
“I am a major shareholder, and the current CEO is a family friend. What do you want from me at this time of the night, Old Wang?”
“In that case, I’ll go to the point,” Mr. Wang said. “Remember that proposal of merging the two most important departments?”
“Didn’t you disagree with it, Old Wang?”
“I also want to know if you could put some of your shares in the market. Old Wu, remember, our friendship started from the maternity room.”
…
The next day, at B district.
One could tell this area was specifically made for middle-class citizens. Although there were no extravagant houses or huge Skyscrapers, the duplexes did not lack in luxury.
The people that resided there were well-off, and the neighborhood screamed of peace and tranquility.
Just like this morning, not a dust could be spotted on the ground. The birds chimed delightfully from the trees and househelps could be seen tending to the plants in the yards of their houses.
In a particular house, laughter and chatter of people could be heard from the outside. Mrs. Ju’an was throwing a tee party today and she had invited all her friends.
At fifty, the woman still retained her youthfulness, and the other women couldn’t help but envy her a bit.
“Mmmm, people like Mrs. Ju’an always have everything handed to them on a golden platter. A good husband and an excellent son…”
“I also heard that your daughter-in-law is very beautiful. Ah, Mrs. Ju’an, aren’t you the luckiest woman in the neighborhood?”
Mrs. Ju’an sat in her chair, holding a cup of tea. Her face held a prideful look as she nodded to each of the women’s statements.
“You know, having such luxury doesn’t come easily.” She observed her fingers as she said, “One needs to work hard to maintain the perfect lifestyle. But not every woman knows how to keep a perfect home.”
“Mrs. Ju’an, please tell us the secret,” said one woman. “What are you doing differently to keep such a perfect home?”
“Mmm, it will be like wasting my energy. Some people are so dumb, they can’t get any words into their heads.”
The women were used to Mrs. Ju’an’s haughtiness and her hobby of showing off. However, her words happened to rub them in the wrong way.
Her son was getting married soon, and both her children worked in the most popular company in the City. Her husband, although retired, was well respected in the neighborhood, and he took care of her like a gem.
One woman couldn’t keep it in any longer and she blurted out, “Hmph, but I heard Mrs. Ju’an’s daughter-in-law is of a strange background. People are saying strange things about her father. If such a girl joins your family, won’t your perfect image become tainted?”
