Chapter 19: Chapter 19
That night, at Goldenfall Villa.
The air was a bit chilly. The breeze fluttered with the coconut tree leaves. The scent of flowers wafted in the atmosphere.
Like a gentle spring sprouting out of a glacier, the Villa exuded calmness, giving off the tranquility of a garden.
Standing on the balcony was the man, whose demeanor was a stark contrast to the tranquility around him. He looked calm on the outside, however, in his eyes were storms of emotions.
As he stared at the vast Villa, his eyes were not particularly fixed on any spot. He seemed to be looking through the walls of the Villa, as if reminiscing some memories.
“Andy.” A silky voice came from his side, however, the man did not move. As if the voice was part of the air, he remained nonchalant to the figure beside him.
Rayne looked at the man, her expression complex. Even as she maintained a smile, she couldn’t shake off the ache in her heart. It was a kind of ache mixed with extreme hate.
Several weeks ago, this man was within her reach. But now, he was like the ice mountain. Tempting to touch but difficult to be close to. She could only admire his beauty from a distance. Exactly like many years ago.
“What are you still doing here?” The man finally paid her attention. But his words were like fuel to the flame in her heart.
Yes, she was supposed to go back with his parents. But how could she? When she could get him back?
“This City is a great place.” She laughed softly. “Unlike City M, it is filled with a lot of opportunities. The entertainment industry here is also booming.”
“So?”
“I like it here,” she stared into his eyes. “Andy, even though our engagement is over, it doesn’t mean that we can’t stay with each other.”
The man frowned. He clearly did not like that idea. But he didn’t say anything about it and continued staring into nothingness.
“I noticed that you barely sleep well.” Rayne broke the silence. “Is it because of workload? Is there something you want my help with?”
“Nothing,” Andrew replied.
“Oh, but I have something for you.” She brought up the flask in her hand. “I got this concoction from the best Zen Master across the country. I am sure it will help you calm your nerves.”
Andrew stared at the flask, his expression blank. “Did you drug it?”
The girl laughed as if she had seen his question coming. “If I want to drug you, Andy, I would have done so a long time ago.” She shook her head, smiling. “As much as I desire to be with you, I won’t do something that stupid.”
Whether the man believed her or not, it didn’t show on his face. Without taking the flask, he simply looked away, staring ahead again.
Rayne dropped the flask on the edge of the railing. She wasn’t sure if he was even going to take it. She muttered a soft goodnight then turned around.
Her smile faded away and she gritted her teeth as she walked into the house. Ah! How ridiculous.
Just now, she had perceived a familiar scent on him. She wasn’t surprised anymore that the man who would change three times a day was wearing the same cloth since morning.
He had seen that girl again. What did they do that her scent clung so much to his body?
“Damnit! Why is that girl still alive, Max!?” She dialed a number and yelled the moment the call was answered.
“Young Miss, I’m still looking for the best opportunity. We must be cautious not to alert anyone.”
“Damn your cautiousness! When will that opportunity come? Is it after she fully snatches my man!?” Rayne yelled again and cut off the call.
She paced for some time in the living room, her rage rising. And when she heard footsteps approaching, she quickly composed herself.
But it didn’t turn out to be Andy. Just a servant.
“What are you still doing here?” Rayne asked.
She could remember Andy sending all the servants away. This place that was supposed to be their matrimonial home, bustling with people now looked like a graveyard. The man just wanted to be alone.
“Young Miss, the Madam and Master told me to stay back. The Young Master needs someone to cook for him.”
Surely, the couple would not let their son starve. They would agree to any of his requests unless it was something that would affect his health. They must have forced the chef to stay against Andrew’s orders.
Rayne waved the servant off and she slumped on the couch. Could they not see her efforts of several years? Since young, she looked at no one else but their son. Why would they easily agree to him calling off the engagement?
“Aunty.” She picked up her phone and dialed the woman. “I just wanted to check if you’ve arrived safely. How’s uncle, is his health getting better? Did you meet Grandpa in good health?”
“Oh, Dear. Everyone here is doing well. I hope you can also come back soon. Your parents miss you.”
“How can I go back, Aunty?” Rayne said sweetly. “Andy is alone in this city. I might as well take care of him.”
The woman sighed heavily from the other end. And after a moment of silence, she said, “Rayne, do you think it is worth it? Obviously, my son is bewitched by that girl. As a woman, I’m advising you not to have your heart broken further.”
Rayne gripped the hem of her blouse, her fist shaking. “It’s nothing, Aunty. I just want Andy to be happy.”
The woman sighed again. Would her son ever be happy? That girl had already broken him beyond repair.
Her only regret was, she wasn’t able to prevent their marriage three years ago. The girl from unknown origins. No one would like to have her as a daughter-in-law.
But her son was blinded by love. And the repercussion was devastating. The boy took a complete year recovering from the shock when she left him. She had almost lost hope that her son would become normal again.
Why would fate be so cruel?
Why did they have to meet again?
