Chapter 154: Chapter 154

Annie walked into the secretaries’ area to meet an anxious-looking Layla waiting for her in her cubicle.

After bantering with the assistant, Layla was more agitated. She had been frantically waiting for the girl who seemed to be taking too long in the CEO’s office.

“What punishment did he give you this time?” Was the first thing Layla asked.

“Hey, relax.” Annie smiled and sat in her cubicle. “I didn’t do anything wrong, why would the CEO punish me?”

“Well, you didn’t do anything wrong the first two times too.” Layla held her waist and put on a frustrated look. “Annie, is the CEO bothering you? I don’t trust Assistant Jiang. I have a feeling he’s intentionally bringing the CEO here.”

Layla had a sharp memory and she could remember that day Annie had asked her to distract Assistant Jiang. If the assistant wasn’t on his way to look for her, she wouldn’t have hidden from him, right?

There was a lot of mystery surrounding the CEO’s relationship with her friend. All in all, she was confused.

As much as she loved her idol, she hoped he didn’t hold any grudge against her friend.

“Don’t worry over it.” Annie looked at Layla as if she could tell what the girl was thinking. “Let’s just focus on our work. The CEO isn’t our problem.”

Layla sighed in relief, seeing that the girl didn’t mind. Knowing her friend, she wouldn’t allow someone to easily bully her even if he was the CEO.

With that in mind, she picked up some of the reports from Annie’s cubicle and said, “Let’s share the work, Girl. If you work on all these alone, I’m pretty sure you’ll burn out and end up in the hospital.”

“Isn’t Ms. Ju’an so generous?”

“You seem to like Ms. Lin too much. Are you sure you can help her willingly? Won’t you be punished too by the CEO?”

“Ms. Ju’an, you are risking your job for Ms. Lin. Are you sure she deserves it?”

“I can see that you like the CEO too. But Ms. Lin is still the most beautiful among us. The CEO is a man and he might change his mind about her.”

“Ms. Ju’an, girls like you are always-“

“Urgh! Shut up!” Layla glared at the secretaries. “So what if I help her out? Unlike you girls, my mind is not completely deluded. Well, I came here with Annie, I will be glad to live with her.”

“Hey, relax. We were just speaking the obvious truth.”

“Keep your truths to yourself. I’ve encountered little devils like you before. No matter what you say, our friendship will only get stronger.”

The secretaries simply thought Layla was crazy. Was Ms. Lin even worth protecting? Obviously, the girl was a trouble magnet.

“Ms. Ju’an, I pity you.”

“Don’t come and cry to us later, saying we didn’t warn you.”

“I heard Ms. Ju’an offering to help Ms. Lin in the investigation. Well, good luck. If you fall into Mr. Wu’s traps, we’ll be glad to bid you girls goodbye.”

The old secretaries had seen the worst of their days while Mr. Wu was still the CEO. The man had literally traumatized them.

They weren’t as free as they have been recently. Because they had to work their butts off, it was a norm for the secretaries to stay overtime every day.

If these girls managed to fall into Mr. Wu’s bad books, they might say goodbye to living freely in MystiArt Productions. That was if they didn’t lose their jobs.

Despite the CEO’s intervention, the secretaries didn’t believe that Mr. Wu didn’t hold any power in MystiArt Productions anymore. After all, that man was cunning.

Layla found it useless to continue bantering with the secretaries. She forced herself to calm down and she proceeded to her cubicle with the reports in her hands.

Then her eyes strayed to the elevator and the calm look didn’t last long on her face. Seeing who just stepped into the CEO’s area, Layla wanted to groan out loud.

“Hey, who is this handsome man? I’ve never seen him here before.”

“What? He looks familiar. Don’t you remember him from the general conference that day?”

“Oh, the Arts Department’s Manager. How could I have forgotten?”

As the secretaries whispered, Annie felt the man’s gaze on her and she looked up. Their eyes met and the man opened his mouth to say something, but she returned her attention to the reports, ignoring him.

Of course, one would think she didn’t even know him and the secretaries found it funny that the man was staring at Annie.

“Brother, what brought you here?” Layla walked up to him and gave him a narrowed look. “Don’t tell me you’re here for-“

“I’m here to see the CEO.” Jason looked away from Annie and answered her, “Why are you so apprehensive, Layla?”

“Why shouldn’t I be?” Layla pursed her lips. “I thought you were here to cause trouble for Annie. After all, you dislike her.”

“Who told you I dislike Annie?”

“Haha. I forgot it is normal to dump someone you love so much at the altar,” Layla said sarcastically.

Jason stared at her helplessly. He knew his sister was still mad at him for what happened, yet, he couldn’t find a way to explain things to her.

Well, what was there to explain? Did he regret doing that?

“Annie is already dealing with a lot. Stop dragging attention to her.” Layla pulled him away, seeing how the secretaries were looking back and forth between him and Annie. “Wait here. Let me see if the CEO isn’t busy.”

She led him to a waiting room not far away from the CEO’s office, without even asking what brought him and why he wanted to see the CEO.

After what he did to her friend, Layla rarely spoke to the guy. She had painstakingly coaxed Annie before she even gave him a chance.

If it wasn’t for her, the two wouldn’t have dated. Had she known her brother was going to cheat on her friend, why would she have wasted her energy and hurt the poor girl?
