Chapter 140: Chapter 140
“Why are you standing there?”
Annie’s head flipped to the side and her eyes followed the direction his voice was coming from. Under the flickering street lights, the man sat on his bike, his gaze boring through her.
Annie looked from left to right before approaching him. Her eyes settled on the bike and she snickered.
“Mr. Lim, to what do I owe this special visit? Aren’t you afraid your other wife will wake up to a cold bed?”
Andrew narrowed his eyes at her. “What are you talking about?”
“Don’t try to fool me.” Annie folded her hands. She didn’t care about it, but only to taunt this man, she didn’t mind bringing it up.
“Did Mr. Lim think I don’t know that you and Ms. Xin are engaged?”
His angry look was replaced by a tiny frown. Then he stared at her. “So what? Do you have anything against it?”
“No.” Annie gave him a stiff smile. “I just want you to be consistent. It’s not too late for you to let me go. Mr. Lim, I don’t want to be the homewrecker.”
“In your dreams.” As if afraid she would run away, the man grabbed her hand, pulling her close.
“For your information, Annie. The engagement was canceled.” The man was sitting on the bike while she stood in front of him.
At this moment, their faces were very close.
At his words, Annie was a bit surprised. Did that lady lie to her about their marriage? However, she masked her surprise with a small smile.
“Then should I feel honored? Mr. Lim canceled his own engagement with an affluent heiress for someone like me. I think I should be flattered.”
“Don’t think too highly of yourself.”
Annie chuckled and stepped back, making him release her arm. “Tell me what brought you here. I’m sure Mr. Lim doesn’t have something important to tell me that can’t be said on the phone.”
“I haven’t forgiven you yet for spending the night here.”
“Let’s be even. You also spent the night at Ms. Xin’s place, right?”
“Annie, you seem to know a lot.” The man narrowed his eyes at her. “Tell me, what are you hiding from me?”
Annie cut her lower lip between her teeth, holding the shawl around her shoulders. She shrugged off his question and looked at him.
“I believe you did some research about me. Take this as a sign that I’m not a dumb person.”
Meaning she also researched about him. Andrew didn’t want to believe that. No one in the city knew about his engagement with Rayne.
“A dumb person wouldn’t be able to fool me. You’re right, Annie. You’re not dumb.” He seemed extra mad at her tonight and Annie understood the hidden meaning behind his words.
“Mr. Lim, I’m waiting…”
“For what?”
“Tell me why you’re here.”
Instead of answering her question, the man took her by surprise as he grabbed her waist and pulled her up.
He dropped her behind him on the bike, and before she could recover from the shock, he started the engine and drove off.
“Mr. Lim…” Her hair blew with the wind and the shawl threatened to drop from her shoulders. “Stop the bike. Let me down.”
In a few seconds, the bike was out of the neighborhood. Annie didn’t know where he was taking her. She couldn’t even see properly due to the strong wind.
“Mr. Lim…” She called out to him again but the man didn’t seem to hear her.
Annie sighed and wrapped her arms around him, resting her head on his back. As the bike drove through the city, minutes passed by slowly.
Her head felt dizzy and she shut her eyes. Knowing well that asking him to take her back was fruitless, she decided to be silent.
The aura he gave off assured her more that the man was very mad. He wouldn’t listen to her and she had a feeling that he was just punishing her.
…
In the wee hours of the morning, the X District apartment Building had started bustling with the neighbors’ noises and chatter.
Mrs. Lin was in the kitchen, preparing breakfast. A frown could be seen on the middle-aged woman’s face as she grumbled some words to herself.
Apparently, she was still mad about what happened last night at her daughter’s party. She especially blamed Mrs. Ming for that. She couldn’t wait to get a hold of that Little Chen too.
“Good Morning, Mum.” Dylan appeared in the kitchen with a smile on his face.
That made Mrs. Lin frown and she glared at him. “What is so good about this morning? Dylan, you were there, why didn’t you stop the crazy mother and son duo?”
Mrs. Lin was afraid that Mrs. Ming and her son would serve as a hindrance to her daughter getting a husband.
She had painstakingly found a responsible son-in-law. How could they do that to her?
“Haha! Mum. You said you wanted someone that would protect us. But that guy ran off immediately he saw Little Chen’s machete. Are you sure he’s the son-in-law you want?”
“Shut up.” Mrs. Lin picked up a spatula and hit his head.
“Ouch! Mum,” Dylan whined, holding his forehead.
“If you aren’t so troublesome and irresponsible, will I be searching for one? You are no different from that Little Chen. Dylan, you are even older than that boy yet you couldn’t stop him from chasing my son-in-law away. Annie is your sister. Are you also jealous that she’ll get married?”
“Big Sis didn’t even say that she likes that guy.” Dylan wanted to laugh. “Mum, aren’t you taking things too far?”
“Shut up, you don’t know what you’re saying.” Mrs. Lin gave him a scornful look. “Your sister said he’s not bad yesterday. I can tell she was willing to give him a chance.”
Mrs. Lin knew her daughter was well-mannered and wouldn’t turn down a suitor as good as that guy.
“Mum, Big Sis is your own daughter yet you don’t seem to know her well.” Dylan had seen the brutal side of his sister yesterday as she treated that guy coldly.
Of course, his sister didn’t accept any kind of suitor but he’d never witnessed her acting so cold towards a man.
“If you speak another word, I’ll hit you on the mouth! Now, go and get her here. We must look for that boy and maybe they still have a chance together.”
