Chapter 108: Chapter 108
…
“Remember you are what you are today because of Old Wang’s daughter. If you can’t make her happy, Son-in-law, what use is our kindness to you? I could pull strings in MystiArt Productions and make you a shareholder. I could also convince the CEO to merge your department with Old Wang’s department. I could do those things with ease. Don’t you think it will be even easier for me to take those things back?”
As Jason drove back to the Ju’ans’ Residence, Mr. Wu’s words echoed in his mind. He sighed constantly and his grip tightened on the steering wheel.
When he arrived, he spent a few minutes in his car before going inside the house.
“You’re finally here, Son. Do you know how happy I was when I saw my daughter-in-law come in? You guys rarely visit us, but I understand you’re busy with work.” Mrs. Ju’an hurried to him happily, oblivious to the gloomy atmosphere around her son.
Jason looked at Priscilla who was sitting on a couch and painting her nails. He sighed again and nodded to his mother. “I had to see someone in a place nearby. Hope you have been taking care of yourself, Mum. Where is Dad?”
“Your father is in his study room. He has been busy publishing some journals recently. Can you believe how lonely I am? With your sister going to work every day, It’s’ so boring here. But I can’t complain, Son. You keep making me proud, I never get sad over those minor things.”
Mrs. Ju’an’s happiness knew no bounds since her son’s achievements. She and her husband had been flabbergasted when they heard the news. They later assumed that their son was just planning to surprise them.
“After you got married, great things have been happening. I have to believe in the saying that; marriage opens more doors to wealth, especially when you’re blessed with a golden wife by the heavens.”
“That’s right.” Jason forced a smile. “Priscilla is like a blessing to me.”
When Priscilla heard that, she looked away from her nails and her eyes lit up. Instantly, her gloom washed away.
“Oh, Honey, aren’t you exaggerating? I should be the lucky one for getting to be with you.”
“Hehe, you guys are so sweet.” Mrs. Ju’an watched their interaction and laughed. “Tonight, you mustn’t go back early. I will prepare the food myself. Make sure you eat all of it.”
Mrs. Ju’an turned around and headed into the kitchen. The last time the couple visited, they didn’t even get to eat all thanks to her hot-headed daughter.
Secretly, Mrs. Ju’an hoped Layla would not come back soon. That girl seemed to be possessed by some spirit that disliked her daughter-in-law.
In the living room, Jason sat on the couch opposite Priscilla. He looked down at the carpet as if deep in thought.
Staring at his troubled expression, Priscilla couldn’t tell what he was thinking. Well, she was so happy, and she didn’t care to ask what was wrong with him.
“Honey.” She left where she was sitting and sat beside him. “Check out my nails, are they beautiful?”
“Priscilla, am I being hard on you?” Jason asked all of a sudden.
Priscilla didn’t mask her surprise at his question. Pursing her lips, she gave him a nod, but then, she shook her head. “Who told you that, Honey? Although your actions make me sad sometimes, you’re not being hard on me.”
“Is that true?”
“Of course. If only you could stop putting others first before me, I would be happier. Honey, In this whole world, you’re the only person I depend on.”
“You’re right.” Jason took her hand. “Can I also ask a favor from you?” He stared at her. “It will make me happy too.”
“Tell me what it is. I’ll do anything to fulfill your wish.” Priscilla looked eager to hear what he wanted to say.
She was smiling, but when he spoke, her smile faded.
“I want you to be lenient towards others. Start acting as if Annie is not in MystiArt Productions, and be more kind to the employees.”
A big frown appeared on Priscilla’s face. Be kind to the employees? What kind of request was that? If they hadn’t found her trouble, would she even look at them?
How could she tolerate those people when she was even above them? Asking her to be kind to the employees was like downgrading herself. Being oblivious to Annie’s presence was impossible.
How could he tell her to be nice to her enemies?
Apparently, Priscilla had expected him to ask for something she could do wholeheartedly. Not this enormous task.
She opened her mouth and wanted to speak when footsteps came from the door.
“Mum! I’m back and sooo hungry!” Layla yelled as she changed out of her shoes, not noticing the people inside the living room.
“Mum!” She called out to her mother again and wanted to walk towards the kitchen then she saw the couple. “Oh, It’s you, Brother.” Layla’s mood instantly dampened.
She wanted to ask what Priscilla was doing there then she decided to just ignore the girl and go to her room.
“Sister-in-law, are you in a bad mood? Didn’t you see me?” Priscilla said softly.
“Urgh!” Layla groaned and turned around. “What is it, Priscilla?”
“I just thought it’s normal that you greet me too since you greeted your brother. Layla, why are you acting as if we’re not a family? Aren’t you my Little Sister?”
Layla’s lips parted and she stared at the girl with widened eyes. “Priscilla, You. Didn’t I warn you not to call me your Little Sister?”
Priscilla put on an innocent look. “What is wrong with that, Layla? I’m your brother’s wife, right? Obviously, you’re like a Little Sister to me.”
Layla wanted to laugh but she was so angry. Her fists shook and she glared at Priscilla. “You’re just too troublesome, aren’t you? Priscilla, I didn’t mind you when I came in here, why are you keen on angering me? If I say something now, they’ll call me a bad person. Do you have something against me or what?”
“Honey, did I say anything wrong?” Priscilla’s eyes watered immediately. “Why does your sister hate me so much? Can’t she see that I just want to be friends with her?”
