Chapter 6: Chapter 6

Chapter Five

Sonya

Sonya wakes up with the sound of her alarm. It was 6:30 am. After looking around she realized it was not her old house. Memories came flooding back with the speed of light.

She rubbed her eyes and pulled her legs to the side of the bed. She put her elbows to her knees and brought her head in her hands. Sonya pushed her fingers in her messy hair. She remained like that for a couple of minutes.

Sonya then came back to reality. She started to get ready for her school. She picked her school blazer and went downstairs. When she reached the kitchen she saw that Kara was already there making breakfast.

“Hungry?” she asked Sonya turning to face her.

“Yeah. 'Starving'.” Sonya emphasized the word with a sigh.

“You didn't eat much last night.” Kara pointed out. Sonya hummed but didn't say anything.

“You're going to be fine. Just be patient.” Sonya looked at Kara and took a breakfast bowl from her.

“I'm not a very patient person but in this matter I don't have any other choice but to stay put and bear with it.” Kara sat on the other side of the table and started eating without any further discussion.

After eating their breakfast they both started packing up for their schools. It sometimes irritated that Kara went to different schools than her. Not that it matters now, Sonya had accepted it but sometimes she forgot.

Kara gave Sonya a spare key and locked the door after her. Then they both descended stairs.

“What time you're going to be home?” Sonya asked.

“Probably 4:30.” Kara replied.

“Oh okay. I'm starting my part-time job today. So I'm probably going to be late.” Kara opened her car door and turned to look at Sonya.

“You are my responsibility now, alright. I've given my words to your dad so you better stay out of trouble.” Kara pointed a finger to Sonya like she's a kid.

Sonya made a face because Kara knew she hated when someone pointed a finger to her. Kara was teasing her. “Call me if you need anything. Bye.” Sonya waved at her friend.

Sonya walked for five minutes to reach the bus stop. Bus came and she took a seat in one corner. She could take the school bus for a ride, but she wanted to ignore her classmates plus the late night bus ride was usually free.

Now that she was going to manage her finances herself she tried to avoid any unnecessary stuff that cost her. Finally, her stop came, and she left the bus and started walking in the direction of her school.

She looked at her watch at 7:32 am. She finally arrived at school. Sonya went to her first class. It was noisy. She could hear voices from there. Whoa!…

Everyone was already there. She looked straight into the direction of that group. Yup, they all were there. As Sonya looked at them one of the guys from that group nudged his friend sitting beside him.

Other three guys were sitting on the upper part of the desk. They all turned in her direction. Weird. Their eyes seem to smile at her. Two guys sitting on the lower part of the desk actually smiled at her.

Sonya always kept a Stoic face whenever she was outside her house but right now, her facial expression changed so vividly to confusion that both of them chuckled.

Sonya made her way to her desk. As she sat down 'Hugh!!' she looked down to see that one leg of the chair was broken. First she didn't realize what happened as the whole class erupted in laughter.

She realized someone broke it on purpose. Sonya looked at that group. That guy named Shane spoke “That seat is all yours now.” and kept on laughing.

Sonya now realized why, when she entered the class, she felt like everyone was laughing at her.

They all seem to have followed her movements with their eyes. She didn't pay attention thinking it would be normal considering yesterday's incident.

Sonya felt embarrassed. She picked her bag, pull herself up. Suddenly just as the bell rang her professor entered the class. Everyone else settled at their seats.

Sonya stood awkwardly. Whole damn class was still laughing under their breath and looking at her.

Her professor looked at Sonya.

“Sonya please take a seat.”

She said, “Or she can take a seat on the floor…” Jessica murmured from the side.

“(Hmm) professor, my seat is broken.” Professor Kristy looked at Sonya with confusion.

“From her weight...” Someone said from behind Sonya and the whole class burst into laughter. Probably one of the guys from that group. Professor Kristy came to Sonya's row and saw the collapsed desk.

“It was perfect yesterday. What has happened to it now?” Professor frowned and started examining it. Sonya became impatient.

“Professor, I have to leave.” Sonya started moving out of the class without listening to the reply from the professor but not before she heard someone saying “Of course she has to.” Sonya rolled her eyes.

Sonya went straight for the bathroom. She wasn't going to cry over such ridiculous things.

She hasn't cried in three years so this damn incident is not going to make her cry. Sonya picked her bag, went to one of the stalls and sat down on the closed toilet seat. She could go to the library, but she wants to be left alone. Sonya sat there for the whole period.

She stared blankly to nothing while her mind wandered in different directions. Finally, the bell rang again and she picked her bag.

Sonya walked between the crowd to her locker and found Lisa.

“Hi, Lisa.” Sonya opened her locker and started picking books she needed for the next period and started putting back the books she was done with.

“Hi Sonya. How are you doing?” Lisa replied with a smile. Suddenly a thought occurred to Sonya. Sonya looked up and saw cameras were everywhere recording their moves. She turned back to Lisa.

“Hmm… Lisa, do classes have cameras? I didn't pay attention if there were any.”

“What? Cameras?” Lisa looked at Sonya with confusion.

“In classes 'No', but outside classes yup. Hold on a second, cameras around the upper classes, where history classes usually happen, isn't working.

During some work related to paint, one of those workers probably broke the connection between cameras and wiring. It was just a week ago, probably during the holidays, I don't know. It is still not working. Dean was talking about fixing it but it'll take some time. Why do you ask?”

“No reason, just curious. Do you know a guy named Shane?”

“Yeah, he's in your class right?” Sonya nodded.

“Yeah, he plays basketball for our school.” Okay…

“Does he practice late at night or something?” Lisa still did not get where this was going.

“Yeah, they practice late at night. Their coach closes the door of school after their practice. What are you trying to ask? Do you like him? You want to watch his game at night?”

“No, it's nothing like that. Forget that I even asked. Thank you for the info. '' Suddenly the bell rang.

“No problem.” Lisa was confused but Sonya wasn't. She now knows how their group broke her chair. Sonya attended her rest of the classes.

During lunch break she spent her whole time searching for a window that could be left open without becoming noticeable.

Hard work pays. She found one. She then called her workplace asking if she can come from tomorrow. When she got what she wanted she thanked them and apologized for not being able to start from that day.

Sonya attended the rest of her classes. She successfully avoided any of her classes. After her school was over she went home.

She found clothes that covered her completely. Jeans, jacket with hoodie, gloves and a big lengthy scarf that covered half of her face. She also carried big goggles.

She found man-shaped shoes with little heels that will increase her height by a few inches. Sonya was ready. She waited for the next day.

Shane

Next day, when Shane arrived at his first period everyone was outside. All his classmates, friends, teachers and of course that silly girl who tried to underestimate him and his friends.

He greeted his friends. She was standing in a corner. Why does she always go for corners? Their eyes meet and at the sight of his gaze she seems to cower away.

Like she was afraid of him and his friends. Good, she should stay away from him.

“What's going on?” Shane asked Alex.

“Don't know man, the key isn't working in the lock. So the professor sent someone for help”. Shane looked at her professor and saw someone coming this way.

A guy came and did something that opened the lock. Professor asked everyone to go inside. Everyone practically ran for their seats. Shane and his friends did too.

However, when they took their seats they went straight down. They all cursed not just them but the voices of falling students from their seats started coming from every direction. “Ah!”, “Shit!”, “FUCK!” and other curses roared around the room.

As Shane came to his sitting position on the floor, he saw that the last person who entered the room was, Sonya.
