Chapter 80: Chapter 80
CHAPTER 80
SARA
Holding up the colored black dress in her hands, Sara ran to the nearby mirror in the room, checking out the outfit on her body.
“This would look good.” She muttered to herself, looking down at the dungarees she was putting on instead, having a change of mind.
Maybe she would wear a dress to the carnival festival, instead of the sporty dungarees she had on.
It would look much better, but still it would seem like she was overdoing the dressing part.
It was just a party, or festival rather where teenagers like her would get to know each other more, not that she was looking forwards to that part.
What she wanted to do at the carnival, was to simply play games, have some funny cool adventures, and just have enjoy herself nothing more or nothing less.
She was not going to talk to anyone, except Ariel, and…
Speaking of Ariel, Sara swiveled around, looking at her.
She was seated dejectedly on the bed, playing with her fingers and sighing Sara walked over to where she was.
“What’s the matter Ariel? You are not looking for what to wear tomorrow huh?” She questioned, grabbing her phone nearby and handing it over to Ariel she said, “Will you take some photos of me. I need to show them to Christian, so he can help me pick an outfit for the carnival festival.”
Silence followed her request, and Ariel still focused on playing with her mails, gave Sara no response.
“Ariel!” She half yelled, throwing the phone in her hands, and finally getting her friend’s attention.
“What is it? What are you thinking about? You seem distant these days? What’s up?” Sara rasped out, standing in front of her, arms folded, brows raised as she waited for a reply.
“Nothing is wrong with me Sara. I’m worried about you instead. I’m thinking about you, and…”
“Oh please Ariel. Not this again…” Sara trailed off, sighing as she rubbed her forehead in exasperation.
“Not what Sara? You know, I can’t believe that you want to go to this carnival, when you should be saving these energy and money towards treating yourself. You’ve not been fine these past few days, and you’ve not said a thing to Christian. You don’t seem to care about your health, and it’s something of concern.”
“Of concern! Oh cut that bullshit Ariel.” Sara blurted out, getting angry all of a sudden, “I am fine, and I don’t know why you are suddenly getting all worked up about my own health. How about you go check yours huh?”
“What do you mean?” Ariel asked wide eyed, but Sara had gotten enough and she fired back, “You are not my mother, not that I have ever had one. You are just my friend, so I don’t get why you are suddenly interested in my health more than me. What the heck is wrong with you?”
“Seriously? I’m just your friend, and because of that I shouldn’t be invested in your health right? You’ve fallen sick three or four consecutive times this month, if I’m not mistaken, and just because you seem strong the next day, you are waving it over? What the hell is wrong with you Sara? I’m letting you earlier statement slide because I love you and care about you.”
This time Sara let out a small laugh, “You love and care about me huh?” She asked and Ariel replied, “Yes, because I’m not just a friend to you. I am your sister too for goodness sake!”
Looking around the room, they shared with other orphans, Sara could see that their little spat was beginning to attract looks, and she just rolled her eyes.
Dragging her thoughts back to herself, within her Sara really loved how caring Ariel was, and it was so endearing, but then on the other hand she was beginning to have other fears.
Ariel was right! She had fallen sick four times, days where she had to battle with flu, vomiting anything she ate, but she had seen through the day with some drugs.
Was there more to this incessant ills, like Ariel was insinuating.
Clutching her stomach, Sara started to rub it slowly, the same time she heard Ariel say the words that had her screaming a huge no.
“I’m worried Sara. I have some suspicions but then… what am I even saying? Let’s go to the hospital today or tomorrow, let’s go get you checked? What do you think about that?”
“No! No! You know how much I hate hospitals Ariel.” She stuttered, a sigh escaping her lips and throwing the dress in her hands, Sara plopped her ass down on the bed besides Ariel.
Feeling Ariel’s arms around her shoulders, squeezing gently, Sara let out a small smile as she made a little vow, “If I get any serious symptoms, then we would go to the hospital I promise.”
“The clinic rather…” Ariel laughed and added, “We both have no insurance and I don’t have much money to afford those large looking imposing hospital buildings.”
Letting out a laugh, the both of them erupted in giggles, the atmosphere between them becoming less tense, and the quarrel already settled.
“What do you say about the carnival tomorrow then? You would be coming with me right? We have tickets you know, and I wouldn’t want them to go to waste hope you know that.”
“Yes ma!” Ariel said in a mocking salute, “I would be attending of course. We need to have some fun you know?”
“Yeah, yeah of course we need to.”
A sigh escaping her lips, Sara started to lean on Ariel’s shoulders, when her phone vibrated close to her.
Picking up her phone, she looked at the screen and a huge smile broke up on her face.
She had been thinking about him, even when she had been arguing with Ariel, and now he had called.
What an unruly coincidence.
Disentangling herself from Ariel, Sara swiping the answer button placed the phone in her ear, and Christian’s voice filled the air.
She had mistakenly put the phone on loud speaker.
“Hello Christian.” She said softly, her voice sounding hoarse as if she had a cough, and she paused clearing her throat.
“Why is your voice like that Sara? Are you okay? Is anything wrong with you?” Christian asked, his worried tone amplifying and she just rolled her eyes.
She coughed slightly, a sweat breaking out on her brows and she started to say something?but Ariel’s voice blurted out, “Don’t ask her why her voice is like that Christian. She’s not been feeling to well…”
“What the fuck Ariel!” She cursed out loud, and quickly removing the phone from its loud volume she stood up.
She knew Christian was definitely going to ask her questions about her health.
She didn’t want him to know at all, and he had no idea that she had been faking sick these days.
Now that Ariel had blurted it out… oh well! She cursed in her head, momentarily swearing at her voice.
“I’m going to the garden.” She blurted out angrily, a frown on her face but Ariel was just laughing even as she stomped off angrily
Ooof!
…….
CHRISTIAN
‘She’s not been feeling to well…’ As he heard those words from Ariel, the curse that followed in the background and the sound of Sara’s feets clanging on the floor, Christian instantly became hyper worried.
“Hello, hello Sara, can you hear me? Are you on the line?” He called out, after a long time when the phone went silent.
“Sara…” He muttered, his phone out from his ears as he checked the screen to see if she had cut the call but she hadn’t.
“Hey, hey Christian.”
As he heard her throaty voice, the relief that coarsed through him was indescribable, and he just let out a huge sigh.
“You were worried huh?” Sara asked, letting out a soft giggle, and then she added, “I had to leave the room that’s why I took long to answer. I’m out now, in the gardens just me. I’m here to speak to you in private my love.”
He could hear the joking tone in her voice, and even though it calmed down his worries, still he was not satisfied.
“Ariel… Ariel said you’ve been ill these past few days. She said you’ve been…”
“Don’t listen to Ariel, please Christian.” She interrupted, and the gesture seemingly irritated him but he kept his cool.
“Your voice sounded dry. Are you sick? Talk to me Sara and don’t lie to me.” He asked, waiting for her response as the line went half dead.
He could hear her swearing, cursing with Ariel’s name and even though this was not funny, he couldn’t help the laugh that threatened to burst out of his lips.
Christian was already imagining how she would look, while swearing.
“I’m waiting for a reply Sara.” He said softly after sometime, cutting through the silence.
She cleared her throat, and then said, “I don’t want to lie to you, but believe me when I say I’m not sick Christian.”
“Then what did Ariel mean by…” “Just drop it okay. I’m tired of you and Ariel acting like my parents or the matron on the shelter. It’s choking to say the least, and I just don’t like it.”
Rubbing his hands on his forehead, and walking towards his window, staring out into thin air, Christian gave her an appropriate answer as to why he was doing all this.
Why he and Ariel behaved like this.
“It’s because we love you Sara. I’m worried because I haven’t seen you for a week now, since that night when…”
She coughed, laughing too before he could finish his statement and Christian knowing why she had done those smiled too.
He could imagine a blush creeping up her cheeks, while she remembered that night in the bushes, when he had fucked her hard, spilling his seed in her.
Fuck! He missed her.
It had been days since he visited and it was because he was busy preparing for their leave, to Seattle.
Thinking about Seattle…
“You need to go to the hospital Sara. You know you can’t go to Seattle sick. You have to be strong for me.”
The statement triggered her, because she was suddenly blurting at the other end, “It will all boil down to this. Can you see how selfish you are! You want me to be well, because of the trip to Seattle isn’t it?”
The trip to Seattle… The way she had sounded, hurt Christian a bit.
It was still evident that Sara was still not invested in their trip, because she was sounding nonchalant about the whole thing.
Seeing how she had flared up just at the mention of Seattle, Christian let out a sigh and knowing that he had to apologize he proceeded to do so, “I’m sorry but it’s not what you think. I was just laying some kind of emphasis. Anyways, I am sorry.”
“I’m not angry… you know what.” She said after some time pausing, “Let’s drop this talk of Seattle.”
As usual, she was diverting the topic, choosing to talk about something else other than their future.
It hurt, it hurt so much, and gripping the window panes close to him, Christian squeezed tightly until he nearly drew out blood.
Stopping at the last minute, the metallic glass barely digging into his flesh, Christian exhaled, “Okay, no more talks about Seattle. Anything for my baby.” He added the last sentence hoping to mark her smile, and he then asked, “What do you want us to talk about?”
After a long stretched silence, finally she asked, “Are you coming to the carnival festival tomorrow?”
What carnival festival? Christian asked himself, his hands brushing over his hair furiously as hr tried to remember the event and then it clicked.
She had been talking about this festival, and he had seen tickets too but he didn’t get one.
He would be so freaking busy tomorrow and the next, he didn’t think it would be nice to leave his work and go attend some teenage party or festival.
“I don’t think I would be attending, I’ll be busy preparing for Sea…” Not finishing the sentence as he didn’t want to make her angry anymore he added, “Are you going? Don’t you want to be helping me out? Packing stuffs and then we could make out. While you are packing my clothes I can leave everything, grab you unawares by the waist, drop you on my bed and fuck the shit out of you and…”
“Christian…” Sara half yelled on the other end, bursting into giggles and he smiled widely.
He had lightened up the atmosphere, and he was proud of himself.
He had no idea why Sara was being hot tempered these days, not like the shy recluse kid he had once fell in love with, but well he still loved this feistiness.
He loved every part of her.
Realizing this, Christian also came with the knowledge that he didn’t want her to attend this carnival festival, whatever his reasons may be.
“….I am going to send you some pictures of my outfits. Maybe I should go with my dungarees, or a skirt and shirt. What do you think about a short black dress, and a rose stop my hair? It would look so good on my skin and make me pretty. With you by my side oh you are…”
“Sara, I don’t want you attending the festival.” Cutting through her speech, he heard her hiss out loud, and she followed up his statement with an unruly talk, “Christian you must be joking.”
Some kind of feeling stirred up within him, like something bad was going to happen, and his chest clenching he said again, “I don’t want you attending that festival Sara.”
He knew she was not going to listen, but still he said it out.
“And why is that?” Sara asked, her voice unbelievably calm.
“I… I…” Stammering, Christian had nothing to say and he heard her laugh as she spoke again, “We already have our tickets Christian. I and Ariel, and there’s nothing you can say to stop me. Except maybe you tie me to a wall, and…”
“Oh, you just try me.” He muttered, his eyes rolling dramatically.
“Whatever, I’m going to this festival, and whatever you say well that’s your business!” She spat out, and Christian’s eyes widened in horror.
Her feistiness, was becoming worse, and now Christian for one didn’t like how she was behaving.
She seemed to be making decisions without thinking, shouting at him not caring about anything and…
“Let’s talk about other things, and if you mention Seattle again, I’m going to hang up the phone.”
“Are you threatening me Sara?” Christian asked, walking away from the window and back to his bed, laying on it, his hands on his forehead as he stared at the ceiling.
“Of course I am mister. You just try me…” She trailed of laughing and Christian couldn’t help but giggled too.
“Oh Sara, mighty Sara… what will I do without you?”
