Chapter 49: Chapter 49

CHAPTER 50

SARA

"Are you still angry at me?"

Sara asked Ariel, who had refused to talk to her even now while they were on their way to school.

Since this morning, while they prepared for school, Sara had tried making small talks with her, but Ariel as usual had always brushed off the talks, or jus kept mute, all through the morning.

As they took their baths, even while they were dressing, Sara just kept on getting silent treatments.

Now though, they had just gotten down from the public transport which took them to school everyday, and still yet Ariel had not said anything to her.

"Did you hear me?" Sara asked, but Ariel just shrugged her shoulders and walked off.

"Come on talk to me..." Sara said, walking fast to meet Ariel's fast pace.

"Look Sara, I don't even know what to say to you right now okay. You know what I think we'll talk better during lunch break. We're late to classes and right now I don't think, talking here would do is any good than being late to classes okay."

"Oh okay." Sara answered, shrugging and slowing down her steps.

"Yeah, I'm not angry at you even though I'm supposed to be..." She was still saying but Sara cut in, "I know and I'm sorry.”

"You should allow me finish okay." Ariel said juggling her bag and smiling, "Okay ma'am finish."

Sara said sarcastically as soon as she saw the wide smile on Ariel's face.

That was just how strong their bond was.

There was nothing she knew that could tear them apart, and as if acting on cue with her thoughts, she walked slowly, and took Ariel's elbow in hers.

Ariel of course didn't make any move to remove her elbow and together just like that, they walked to class together.

CHRISTIAN

His palms were sweaty, he was so nervous, heart beating erratically as he stared at the piece of paper in his hand.

The paper which held the future of Sara, in his hands.

It was the paper which held the number of the head matron of Sara's orphanage.

He just had to dial the number, and book an appointment, but then he didn't know why he just couldn't.

He was so nervous.

He was so scared.

What if she finally accepted his appointment, and set a date for them to come meet, what was he going to tell her?

Of course he had a well practiced speech in mind.

This was his and Sara's life at stake here, he knew what to say, how to begin, but then...

Was he really ready to do this?

Was he ready to go through all the stressing paper works, court actions that would have him swearing to take care of his Sara, till death or till when she reached maturity he guessed, or then face the outcome of he just couldn't.

He knew he had plans, he had thought of all these but what if it didn't work out.

What if his plans went down the drain, and he ended up not disappointing not just himself but Sara.

Oh, he just couldn't disappoint the one person he was doing all this for.

With this determination, he got pumped and walking to the bathroom he washed the sweat of his palm, and dried of his hands with his towel.

Walking back to his bed, he picked up the piece of paper he had dropped from earlier and taking his phone to by the bedside, he quickly punched the number into his cell phone.

Taking in a deep breath, he dialed the call button, and as it rang, he kept saying short prayers, concerning his fate.

After ringing unsuccessfully for 5 times without any answer, Christian was ready to give up when finally the call went through.

Clearing his throat, as all the nervousness and adrenaline from before came rushing back in, he put the phone to his ear and said, "Good day ma'am."

Wooh, now it was time to do this...

SARA

She watched as Ariel kept on eating bites of her bread sandwich without saying anything.

Even though the tense atmosphere and the quarrel from earlier seemed to have cleared up, well, things were still a little bit awkward between the two of them.

They were seated at the school's garden, and well Sara was done with her lunch and she just couldn't wait to talk to her best friend and sister.

"Ariel..." She trailed off, coughing as she began.

"Well, I was waiting for you to say something. I thought you were expecting me to start all smiley faced and begin talking." Ariel said mockingly, still munching on her turkey sandwich and Sara just rubbed her hands on her head in frustration.

This was one thing with Ariel of course.

She could be do frustrating at times, but then that was Ariel fir you, and Sara didn't even bother to follow her sarcastic comment.

"I want to really apologize for everything. For bit telling you about sleeping with Christian earlier, to shouting at you when you were only telling me the truth. I’m truly and deeply sorry." Sara said apologetically, going on her knees trying to show just his remorseful she was, an action which made Ariel raise up her eyebrows.

"What are you doing Sara?" She questioned, but still Sara knelt on her knees.

"Nothing I shouldn't do. I want to apologize, I'm sorry for keeping secrets, when I know I shouldn't. I'm really sorry Ariel, I'm sorry."

"It's okay Sara, you know I can't be angry with you for so long you know that right. You're still my girl, my friend, my sister. Besides you already told me, it's no more a secret again okay. My attitude maybe it's just my menstrual hormones catching up on me I guess." Ariel said laughing and Sara joined in to.

"You're on your period?" Sara asked and Ariel just nodded and they both continued laughing hard.

"Damn, you were just playing hard to get all this while, being cranky and stuff, and all this while it's just your hormones. Damn, Ariel you're one crazy being."

"No don't say that, I was really mad. But I'm over it now okay. Let's talk about other things." Ariel said, and smiling Sara took a seat beside her best friend.

Placing her hair on Ariel's shoulders and smiling, Sara started talking.

Talking about everything and nothing to her one and only confidante in the whole wide world.

Her best friend, sister and partner.

Ariel Peterson.
