Chapter 28: Chapter 28
CHAPTER 28
Christian looked up from the receptionist desk as the store's door slammed wide open, seeing that it was Ariel who had been absent from work for the past three days, his mind leapt up as he saw her, finally he could ask about Sara's well being.
Since the argument that night, something he had come to terms with admitted within himself that he was at fault, she had refused to pick his calls or reply his constant text messages, and he had the feeling that she was ignoring him on purpose.
"Hello Christian, Hello Daniel." Ariel greeted, waving at Daniel and even fist bumping him affectionately, Christian knew something fishy was going on between them, that was for sure.
"What's up Ariel, how's your health." He asked, "Well, I'm doing just fine as you can see, I'm hale and hearty." She answered chuckling brightly.
This was the right time to ask about Sara and also to disclose the surprise as initiated by his mom, that he was already planning for her, she couldn't ignore him forever that was for sure.
Looking over at Daniel, he gave him a sign with his eyes, indicating that he needed privacy, raising his eyebrows at him, Daniel excuses himself and went into the store room.
"Um, so how's Sara, I mean how is her health too, is she okay......" He asked sounding confused and mentally chiding himself for talking like this.
Looking up at him, she chuckled quietly, "Did she tell you she was sick, oh I see, someone is really missing someone."
"Why is she not picking my calls?" Christian asked ignoring the question she had asked earlier, "Well that's not my position in anyway to disclose or even confide with you."
"Oh Ariel, just cut me some slack, I think she's deliberately ignoring me, she can't possibly still be angry with me since that day, or is she?" He asked sounding frantic and Ariel just kept on laughing.
He was becoming frustrated already, "Well there's something I want to discuss with you or tell you rather, since you are not answering my questions, I better get this over and done with." Picking up the store's inventory book, he placed it along with the pen he was holding on the counter and focused his full attention on Ariel.
"Should I continue." He asked and she nodded in affirmation.
"I want to organize an apology surprise party or date rather for her, and I need your help." Ariel gasped in surprise as she exclaimed, "Oh really."
"Yes, I'm serious, like a quiet romantic date you know in an enchanting place, just the two of us, I want to make it very angelic and beautiful, I want her to always remember that day, okay, so will you assist me please?" He pleaded frantically.
"Well, fine, I'll definitely help you out, you know you can count on me anytime, anyday." Ariel said and his heart leapt up in joy, he had thought she would be somewhat difficult but he was surprised now when she agreed so easily.
"You know, this has got to be a secret between us right?"
"Of course, I know that quite all right Mister." Ariel replied bringing out her hands for a handshake which he gladly accepted and they chuckled in unison.
They were still laughing heartily when Daniel came to the front desk and saw them, shooting daggers with his eyes at Christian he started to speak something when Ariel shunned him off and continued rather, "Hey baby, my love, stop looking at Christian like that, we just discussed something very important, and this handshake is not what you are thinking it is okay, what's the delivery for the day?"
Removing her little hands from his she scampered away into the store's grocery session, following her Daniel gave Christian a flirty wink and he just smiled and shaked his head in amazement.
*********
"Hey miss, here's something for you."
Sara stopped walking down the corridor that led to her room and stared down at the little girl who had approached her, with cute large blue eyes, and probably just five or six years, she wondered what and who had sent this little girl to her, it couldn't be the matrons, they wouldn't send someone this little to deliver a message, and she didn't keep much friends at the shelter, to say if they were the one, her only friend was Ariel and she had already gone to work.
Her head churning in confusion, and squatting down so she could be at face level with the little girl, she smiled and said calmly, "Hey baby, who sent you to me?"
"I don't know her name, she just pointed at you and told me to give this to you." The girl answered stretching her chubby hands out and placing an envelope on Sara's hand.
"Okay dear, thank you so much." Standing up, she watched as the little girl skimped off down the hall to the shelter's nursery section (where little children stayed), before she satisfied her curiousity and opened the envelope.
**********
DINAH
She watched from afar as Sara gasped in shock at the envelope she had sent to her, chuckling evilly ad quietly, Dinah flipped her hair over one shoulder and walked out of the hall majestically.
**********
Sara couldn't believe her eyes when she saw the contents written in the envelope, dripping with red ink splattered on top, the words, "WATCH YOUR BACK." was boldly written and the paper was filled with red ink which only indicated blood.
Feeling a chilly feeling running down her spine, Sara looked round the hallway to see if anyone had noticed her, still afraid and her hands shaking lightly, Sara put the letter back in the envelope and walked to her room slowly.
