Chapter 24: Chapter 24
"Be within boundaries." Is all she says before she walks ahead, while I speed up my legs to meet up with her.
"Do you know what might happen to him?" I ask out of curiosity.
"Blood lost from bites. We've been having the problem around here a lot. I don't even understand the thing, but seems like doctor Aaron knows about it. He's helped a lot of said victims recover. I think it's some animal bite." Mom explains. She enters the ICU room, while I stayed outside as promised. I watch as they communicate about the man's issue. Nicklaus young-looking Dad, doctor Aaron is there as well.
"Your mother's suspicion is partially correct. She's a brilliant staff we could ever wish for and she's a lot of help with father." Nicklaus says as we comes in from behind me. He stands beside me, staring ahead at the man as well. He crosses his arms over his chest, looking thoughtful for a second.
"Hmm." I hum. "When do you plan on telling me things?"
"Why do you think that we'll still see?" Nicklaus ask, waiting for answers, his gaze is turned on me.
I don't know how I know we'll meet more often, it's like a feeling that just tells me things. During the other day, in the woods, I had that feeling that we'll still meet even though I didn't want to see him anymore. There's like a pull that compresses our distance, letting us get to come to each other's way after parting.
"I don't know, maybe just following a feeling."
"You baffle me." I am fazed. I baffle Nicklaus, the bad boy of Franklin high school? This is news. Well, if only he knows how much he baffles me in return.
"Are you family?" A feminine voice calls both our attention, but her question is more directed to me than Nicklaus.
"No. Any problem?"
"You need to leave. We only let in families, since you are not, it's advisable for you to leave the room." The nurse tells me.
"Come on." Nicklaus says and gives out his hand for me to take. I've already being frozen to almost dying while the run last, so I need as much heat as I can receive. I can't take his cold hands again.
"Just take it. Trust me." I glance at the nurse before Nicklaus' hand. Hesitantly, I take his hand and feel no coldness but otherwise. I look bewildered.
When we are out of the nurse's hearing, I ask Nicklaus.
"Your cold skin has suddenly turned warm, how?"
He chuckles. "Well, that's one way to describe it. It's the chosen stuff I said the other time. You can't understand now."
"I know I will one day." As much as I try not to sound offended, I couldn't help but feel that way.
Nicklaus keep mute, walking in ally with my steps.
"Where are we going?" I ask him when I see that he continues to walk towards the elevator.
"To your mother's car."
"She's treating a patient. It's not like we'll be going home any sooner."
"Just come with me." For the first time, Nicklaus rolls his eyes at me. I savour the moment as well.
I clutch the gown closer to my body once again, feeling the coldness seeps into my pores again. My hands brush against one another to create heat. Nicklaus walks me to Mom's car, and stands in front of me. With the help of the light bulb near the area, I'm able to see his eyes has a glint of creamy yellow colour, overcoming the reddish brown colour.
"You're leaving?" There's craving in my voice which I couldn't hide, and doesn't intend on hiding initially.
"Yeah." He says. I expect him to turn his back and walk away, but no, he stays fixed on his position. His eyes bore into mine, once again, calling my soul. I feel the pull once more, compressing the space within us as if we are sliding closer to one another like a magnet.
Without delaying further, I lean closer and that's when I realize that actually we've gotten closer. It wasn't an imagination that I thought it was. I kiss him lightly, only touching lips to lips and stop to look at him. His gaze is locked onto the asphalt ground. Surprisingly, Nicklaus pulls me closer and in response, I throw my hands around his neck, lock him within my reach as I entwine my fingers and kiss him deeply. His mouth taste different than I thought; undescribable with a lingering taste of something unsure to me. I don't care though. His tongue surveys my mouth, tasting every part of it and demandingly deepens the kiss. His frame pushes me against Mom's BMW.
Nicklaus releases me, rather lightly abrupt. His eyes closed. When he opens it, he has a darken red and black intermixed colour on the rims of his lens. He takes two steps backwards from me. From behind him, Mom's shoe clicks nearer before her appearance.
"Hi, Mrs Chloe. I'm Nicklaus." He says and smiles at Mom before he turns and leaves. "See you at school tomorrow, Rayne."
"See you at school tomorrow, Nicklaus." I couldn't care about anything, Lydia's threat most importantly, other than the kiss we shared. It was passionate and unlike I've ever felt in my life. Nicklaus' kiss makes up for my third kiss. I smile at his behind before he disappear behind the wall.
"That's him?" Mom ask.
"That's him." I reply and enter the car.
