Chapter 32: Chapter 32
After Madison walked out, she immediately entered her room. She despised herself for her complicated emotions. Because she couldn't explain why she felt this way or had the impulse to say something like that to Dylan and Scarlett, she silently wondered, 'Can't my life be normal like before? Why does it feel so chaotic now?'
Madison collapsed into her bed face down, suddenly feeling worn out and drained, though she couldn't tell why.
"That witch, she was intentionally touching Mr. Carter. Does she think I couldn't tell? Annoying!" Madison irritatedly said in a loud voice. She felt so irritated right now. It was just that Madison didn't know to whom she wanted to be angry first, Dylan, herself, or that witch.
Madison buried her head in a pillow before yelling, "It's annoying!" She remained in that position until her heart calmed down again.
After some time, Madison then sat up. However, she was still frowning. She didn't want to go out because Emily might tease her again. So, she simply sat on the bed while staring at the floor, too lost in her thoughts.
"I'm not a petty person, but why do I feel I've been acting like that for the past few days?" Madison suddenly asked herself, making her horrified for a moment. If her mother found out, she would probably scold Madison until her ears fell off. Ruth didn't like Madison or her daughters quarreling or gossiping about their neighbors.
Just then, her bedroom door unexpectedly opened. Madison quickly raised her head and looked in its direction. Seeing Dylan walking inside her room, she returned her eyes to the floor as she was still annoyed at him.
Still, Madison tried to sense what Dylan would do. She felt him approaching and was about to sit next to her, though she just let him be and remained still, not bothering to look at him.
"I'm sorry, darling," Dylan apologized as soon as he opened his mouth and sat down. Madison still didn't look at him and just ignored him. She thought angrily, 'The nerve of this guy! After flirting with that witch in front of me, he sat next to me as if nothing happened! Darling? Darling, his face! Hmmm!'
Ever since Madison learned that "darling" was a kind of endearment to the person you love, she always felt fluttered whenever Dylan called her that. But now, she was displeased hearing that from him after seeing him flirt with that witch earlier.
"Darling," Dylan called her in a coaxing tone, but Madison ignored him. Inwardly, she thought bitterly, 'This man, he was just with that witch, laughing and enjoying their time together with no care in the world! How irritating!
"Talk to me, Darling. Please ..." Dylan pleaded, but Madison didn't care. Why was Dylan still here? Wasn't he still busy flirting with that witch, huh?
Seeing that Madison was keen on ignoring him, Dylan took her hands and attempted to turn her towards him, which surprised Madison a little. She didn't want to, so she didn't budge and just glanced at him. Though she could see the sadness on his face, Madison just ignored it to show that she was still pissed off at him.
"What do you want, Mr. Carter?" Madison asked indifferently. Her tone had a hint of impatience.
"I want to talk to you," Dylan answered hesitantly. Madison only raised an eyebrow at him.
"We're already talking, Mr. Carter. Isn't this considered a conversation?" Madison remarked in an indifferent tone and pulled her hands back. However, Dylan didn't let go of it and tightened his grip even more.
Madison noticed Dylan sink in silence and lower his head. She waited for him to say anything, but when Dylan didn't, Madison jerkily sprang to her feet and yanked her hand back. Surprised, Dylan didn't anticipate her actions, so he unwillingly let her hand go.
Without glancing back at him, Madison decided to leave and go to the kitchen. However, she had yet to reach the door when she felt Dylan hug her from the back and rest his chin on her shoulder.
"Get off me," Madison said firmly to him as she couldn't move from where she was standing.
"I'm sorry, Darling. I also didn't want Scarlet to approach me. I stayed away from her, but she kept making advances at me, Darling. Please, I'm sorry. We just made up, and then you'll be mad at me again," Dylan sincerely apologized and hugged Madison even harder. Madison tried to wriggle out of his embrace.
"You think so too?" Madison raised her eyebrows and sarcastically said, "Then why did you hug her back and even let her lean on your shoulder. You even looked so happy while talking to her, eh. Ain't that right?" Just recalling Scarlett and Dylan's interaction from earlier made Madison's mood sour.
"I promise, Darling, it's not my intention to do that, nor did I enjoy her flirtations. All I want is if you are the one doing it to me. Please forgive me, Darling," Dylan begged and playfully poked her with his finger.
"Will you let me go or let me go?" Madison asked Dylan through gritted teeth, but the latter hugged her even tighter. "I've already seen your interactions, Mr. Carter. I could say you're a lucky man to have her." She snorted.
Perhaps Dylan saw that she was furious, so he only watched Madison remove his arms around her and go straight to help in the kitchen. When Madison got there, she saw Emily washing the dishes, so she insisted on finishing the task. Emily first refused Madison, but after the latter pleaded with her puppy eyes, Emily sighed and stated she was nearby at the table if Madison needed anything.
As Madison was washing a plate, someone approached her, took the sponge in her hands, and put it down. Glancing up, Madison realized it was Dylan, so she looked at him sharply.
"What's the matter with you, Mr. Carter? I was busy washing the dishes here," Madison frowned and annoyedly said. Then, she took back the sponge.
"Let's talk first, darling," Dylan begged.
"What are we going to talk about, Mr. Carter? Go back inside because your guest might be bored," Madison snarkily remarked.
When Dylan removed the sponge from her hand and suddenly pulled her to god knows where, though Madison was stunned, she couldn't do anything about it. As he dragged her, Madison wiped her hands with her apron before removing it and hanging it on the hook that they passed on.
"Where are you taking me, Mr. Carter? Let go of me," Madison protested, attempting to stop being pulled by Dylan. However, he still pulled her along because Dylan was stronger, even if she stopped moving. When the two went upstairs, Madison clung to the handrail so that Dylan would stop pulling her.
"If you don't let go, I'm telling you, I'll carry you to my room," Dylan warned her, threatening Madison as she believed that once Dylan said something, he would do it.
"Let go, of course; I'll let it go. Mr. Carter, why are you so impatient?" Madison awkwardly said and let go of the handrail as if burned. Madison didn't wait for Dylan to pull her and walked alone. She thought it would be really hard for Dylan to lift her. What was more, it would be embarrassing.
When they arrived at Dylan's room, he touched both of Madison's shoulders and made her sit on the chair. Perhaps still frightened by Dylan, Madison sat quietly. Dylan, too, sat beside her. Afterward, an uncomfortable silence fell on the two. When Madison could not bear it anymore, she asked, "Why do we have to come here?"
"You don't want to talk to me. You also don't want me to explain. You're avoiding me again, just like what you did before. Tell me why you are still upset, so I'm not guessing," Dylan gently said. At a glance, Madison caught the confusion written on his face. Indeed, she suddenly got angry without knowing the reason.
She stared blankly at him before admitting, "It's because of you."
"Me? I have no clue why you're acting like that. We recently made up, Darling, and I don't want you to be angry with me again," Dylan coaxingly said and moved in front of Madison. He sat on the coffee table in front of her and held her hand. "Tell me, Darling. What's the matter?"
"You didn't know? You hugged her back, and she caressed you from time to time. If I didn't know, I would assume you are a couple as you look so sweet while talking and flirting with each other. Just looking at you two makes me so annoyed!" Madison exclaimed and accusingly stared at him.
Dylan squeezed her hand before speaking, "You should also have seen how I kept removing her hands whenever Scarlett touched me, Darling. I only want you to touch me." He shamelessly explained, but Madison sneered at him.
She echoed,"' I only want you to touch me.' I saw you hug her back too. You even laughed sweetly. I'm not blind and deaf so as not to see and hear them." Madison was still annoyed whenever she remembered how they looked when they were talking.
"At that time, Scarlett cried and said she didn't want to live. Then she hugged me, Darling. Promise, I'm telling the truth. I felt sorry for her, so I hugged and stroked her back to comfort her. I don't feel anything for her anymore. You're the only one here, Darling," Dylan said emotionally, even pointing at his heart. Hearing this, Madison was moved, but she didn't show it lest he became smug. Madison stared at him, but she knew that if Dylan coaxed her for a little bit, she would inevitably forgive him.
When Dylan touched her chin and turned her to face him, Madison tried her hardest to refrain from smiling. Because honestly, she was already moved by the effort he made just to explain his side.
"Didn't I tell you to trust me? I love you, Darling, and that won't change. If it's because of Scarlett that you're acting like that, then I'm never going to talk to her or even look at her again. " Don't be mad at me, darling," Dylan gently said and caressed her face. Madison couldn't stop herself from slowly smiling at him.
"I'm not saying that you should not talk to her anymore. I'm just saying that you shouldn't let her touch or hug you again. It made me jealous," Madison told him directly.
Dylan was shocked at Madison's honesty before a sweet smile flashed on his lips.
"Are you jealous, darling?" he asked. Dylan couldn't believe what Madison said.
He caged her face with both hands and stared at Madison with a blissful smile playing on his lips.
"I love you so much, Darling. And I will never let you be angry with me again. Now that you admit you are jealous, you should confess to me that you love me too," Dylan stated excitedly before kissing Madison on her forehead.
Madison knew her affection for Dylan in her heart was growing deeper. Nonetheless, she was still afraid to admit her feelings for him as she always remembered what Ruth had told her back then. Dylan was her boss, and she was just his maid. There was a huge gap between them. She came from a humble background, so she wouldn't be suited to the likes of Dylan, who belonged to a wealthy family. He was better suited to someone who also came from a rich background just like him. She and Dylan lived in a different world, so she was terrified to reciprocate his love.
