Chapter 28: Chapter 28
Dylan
After speaking with Madison about their misunderstanding, Dylan finally breathed a sigh of relief. With relief came a surge of happiness as he saw her smiling and joking with him just like before. All he had to do now was to confront Scarlett.
Perhaps that was why Scarlett kept warning him that she would do something to Madison. It was because she was planning something.
"I'm leaving first, darling. I'll take care of something, and I'll be right back," he said goodbye to Madison but was still reluctant to leave.
"All right, but I might be busy later. I'll have to review my lessons, Mr. Carter. We have a test on Monday, and I don't want to fail," Madison replied, making him pinch her cheek because of her cuteness. After he did so, Madison looked so shy.
"I'll help you review when I come back. I'll also buy something to eat. You don't have a class tomorrow, right?" Dylan asked, and Madison nodded and smiled at him.
"I want ice cream, Mr. Carter," she said coquettishly, and her eyes widened in anticipation.
"Okay, darling. I'll buy it as long as you wait for me, huh? I'll leave for a while. I promise." Dylan stood before her and smiled as he stared at her reaction. "I'm leaving now," he said, chuckling inwardly.
"Be careful, Mr. Carter," Madison reminded and sweetly smiled back at him before Dylan finally walked out of her room.
On his way out of the house, Dylan couldn't help but clench his fingers in anger when he remembered where he was going.
"I'll make you pay for what you did, Scarlett," he solemnly promised and opened his car before stepping in and driving away.
Dylan didn't even bother to call Scarlett as he knew where she could be right now. Less than a few minutes later, he arrived outside the familiar apartment, so he got out of his car and entered.
While standing in front of Scarlett's door, Dylan couldn't fathom how she almost ruined his life again. Thinking of this, he knocked heavily. A moment later, the door finally opened. It revealed a tall half-naked man. Dylan certainly didn't know him, so he stared blankly at the man for a moment, wondering whether he got the wrong apartment.
"Where's Scarlett?" Dylan questioned with a frown.
"She's in the shower. May I ask who you are?" the man asked back, and he remained standing at the door, having no intention of letting Dylan in.
"You don't have to know. I'm here to talk to Scarlett. Just tell her that Dylan is here," Dylan emotionlessly said and just looked at him straight into his eyes. After hearing his name, he could see the shock on the man's face. As if he realized something, the man immediately closed the door in Dylan's face.
When the door opened again, it was also the same man who had opened it earlier. However, he was already dressed and was about to leave Scarlett's apartment and went past Dylan while giving him a death glare.
Behind him was Scarlett, who had just taken a bath because the water on her wet hair was dripping on the floor.
"I need to talk to you," Dylan glanced at her indifferently before walking inside through the ajar door. He sat directly on the sofa in the living room. Then, he waited for Scarlett to sit in the chair opposite him before asking straightforwardly, "Why did you tell Madison that you're pregnant and I'm the father?" As he seriously looked at Scarlett, he demanded, "Why did you have to do that? We both know I'm not the father."
"You are the father, Dylan. You ..." she refuted softly, prompting Dylan to raise his eyebrow at her.
"Don't joke around, Scarlett. I know that you know I'm not that stupid nor naive to make me dance in your palm again. Just tell me the truth," Dylan calmly said, suppressing the irritation bubbling inside him. Dylan felt exasperated when Scarlett kept insisting that he was the father.
"I'm not joking around, Dylan. Why don't you accept that fact?" Scarlett replied in a severe tone, which made Dylan laugh sarcastically.
"Why should I accept it when I know for a fact that you're just lying? I'm sure it's not mine. I'm pretty sure of that," Dylan calmly insisted, not wanting Scarlett to see him affected even for a bit because of this matter.
"Damn it! When we were having sex, you came inside me, remember? So this is yours, Dylan! This is your child!" Scarlett cried. Dylan smirked at her.
"Remember also that I never intended to come inside you. You did it on purpose, didn't you? Because you knew you were pregnant by then, you came up with this idea to make me responsible for getting you pregnant. Am I right?" Dylan said as he looked Scarlett straight in the eye. The latter only met his eyes. Even at this time, Scarlett was still stubborn and would not admit her lies.
"You can't change the fact that I'm carrying your child, Dylan. And no matter what you do, you can't run from this responsibility. And I'll do everything to get you back as in everything. Even ruining that woman," Scarlett threateningly said, but Dylan ignored it.
"I won't run. Wanna know why?" Dylan smirked at her. "Because I'm sure as hell that it's not mine. How many times did you do this to me? How many times have you cheated on me? I was stupid before, but not this time, Scarlett. Not this time," He emphasized, shaking his and looking at Scarlett. Thinking of Madison, he suddenly remembered that the most important thing right now was quickly fixing this mess.
"Fuck you, Dylan! This is yours, and nothing will change it!" Scarlett shouted and stood in front of Dylan. "You just met that Madison, and you'd become like that! To hell with that fucking maid of yours! What a slut!" Hearing this, Dylan angrily glared at her and couldn't control the rage inside of him. He wouldn't let this woman insult Madison.
He roared, "Don't you ever insult Madison in front of me! You knew yourself that you were the slut here and not her! Don't you ever compare yourself to her because you aren't even fit to carry her shoes!" Dylan felt so angry. Scarlett didn't want to lose out, so she started shouting at him and said she was only telling the truth. Dylan stopped for a moment and looked at her from head to toe. Seeing this, Scarlett stopped.
"Then tell me, how many months?" Dylan challenged her while looking at her tummy. Then, he smirked at her and spoke again when Scarlett remained silent for a while.
"Quit it, Scarlett. Remember the first time you told me you were pregnant?" he questioned and laughed as he remembered what happened in the past. But this time, Dylan was not stupid to believe whatever Scarlett had said.
"Back then, you told me you were pregnant. I was so stupid before because I wholeheartedly believed I was the father even though I knew I didn't even come inside you. You told me I did it when I was very drunk. But I knew I would never get drunk with you since you're so wild when you drink," Dylan told her and sat down again. He knew she remembered what happened then, and even though he wasn't sure, Dylan still accepted it. He intently looked at Scarlett and sighed.
"I remember when that guy came to my apartment and claimed he was the father. I knew he was telling the truth because he said you've been his girlfriend for a long time. You were mine while having relationships with other men." Dylan wanted Scarlett to know that he knew all she had been doing behind his back. Scarlett lowered her head, not saying a word, so Dylan spoke again.
"How many times have you cheated on me, Scarlett, but I didn't leave you because I loved you so much then. But that was in the past. And now, you kept ruining things and want to involve me in your mess. Why, Scarlett?" Dylan seriously questioned her. He genuinely wanted to know why she was doing this.
"You're the father, Dylan. I'm sure of that, so please don't doubt it when I said he's your son," Scarlett cried out pitifully. Dylan became annoyed, and whatever patience he had from the beginning had run out.
"Don't push it, Scarlett! Just don't!" He shouted in a threatening voice because he might be unable to hold himself back.
"Why can't you accept that you're the father? How can you call yourself a man, Dylan?" Scarlett asked defiantly, which made Dylan laugh even though his anger was already on the verge of exploding.
"You make me laugh, Scarlett. Nice try. I know you were testing my patience. I'm not stupid anymore, Scarlett. And by the way. Who's the guy you were with earlier? You're tired because you look haggard. How many rounds did you have sex, huh?" Dylan insultingly asked and couldn't help but grin when Scarlett froze and couldn't seem to speak. "Don't repeat what happened in the past, Scarlett. Don't do something again that you might regret later. Decide what will be best for you. Stop doing this because I will never come back to you whatever you do," Dylan calmly said when he recalled the past he wanted to forget.
"No ... no ... no, Dylan. Listen, you are the father and no one else," Scarlett said in a weak voice while lowering her face. A tear that fell from her eye didn't escape Dylan's eyes.
"Nothing will change even if you keep telling me that. I know that you know that the child you are carrying belongs to someone else, not me. You're beautiful, and I know you can change yourself for the better," Dylan sincerely advised and walked toward her. He hugged her and could feel that Scarlett was silently crying.
"I'm sorry," She apologized in a soft voice, then leaned her face on his shoulder and continued to cry.
"I'll help you if you take back what you said to Madison about me being your child's father. We know it's not mine," Dylan said, and Scarlett nodded.
"Promise me, Dylan, that you will help me," Scarlett asked again, making sure that Dylan would genuinely help her. Dylan nodded.
"I promise," he then answered and rubbed her back to give her some comfort.
Hearing that Scarlett agreed to his condition, Dylan immediately left her apartment, relieved because he had finished sorting out this mess. When he recalled Madison, who was waiting for him, he went straight to a grocery store to buy something for her. This marked the beginning of her life with him. And Dylan would also start putting in the hard work and flirt with Madison every chance he could, so the latter would agree to be his girlfriend as soon as possible.
