Chapter 19: Chapter 19

Scarlett was caught off guard when her phone suddenly vibrated in her pocket.

"Fuck!" she cursed and irritably pulled the phone out of her pocket. When she saw who texted her, her irritation quickly disappeared, and she couldn't suppress the smile on her face.

The text message came from Dylan. It said: [Where are you? Can I talk to you?]

Smiling, Scarlett quickly replied: [Sure, babe. I'm at my apartment. I will wait for you here.]

After hitting the send button, Scarlett felt so happy and excited. Immediately, she entered her bedroom and went straight to the bathroom, thinking that she had to look sexy and alluring in Dylan's eyes when he arrived later. When she was done taking a shower, she hurriedly looked into her walk-in closet for something beautiful to wear.

In the end, Scarlett decided to wear red lacy lingerie and topped it with a silky bathrobe before going to the living room to wait for Dylan. Less than half an hour later, there was a knock on the door. Scarlett elegantly stood up, first scrutinized herself in the full-length mirror that she passed by, and pasted an alluring smile on her lips before opening the door.

Instantly, she saw the handsome face of the man she had not seen for weeks. She looked at Dylan with affectionate eyes. Only she and God knew how she missed this man so damn much. Thinking of that, Scarlett couldn't control her feelings and threw herself at him. However, when she was about to kiss him, Dylan suddenly dodged it. Scarlett stiffened, not expecting him to do that. Without saying anything, she opened the door to let him in.

Dylan quietly entered her apartment and sat in a chair far from her. It was as if he was distancing himself from Scarlett, making her freeze again.

Confused about what was happening, Scarlett approached Dylan and sat on his lap before wrapping both of her arms around his neck.

"I missed you. Why do you only remember me now?" Scarlett complained coquettishly and was about to kiss him on the lips again when Dylan suddenly made her stand up. So, she had no choice but to sit in the seat opposite him. She glared at him, feeling annoyed, hurt, and irritated. She thought, 'How could he do this to me?'

When silence enveloped the two, Scarlett asked angrily, "Seriously, Dylan?" and stood up in her seat. "You've been avoiding me for how many weeks. Then now, you're acting like you don't want me near you. What's happening, Dylan?" she demanded

"I'm sorry," Dylan whispered.

"What?" Scarlett asked again and pretended she hadn't heard his words. She wanted him to repeat it.

"I said, I'm sorry!" Dylan exclaimed, which made Scarlett raise her brows.

"For what, Dylan? Why are you saying sorry?" Scarlett asked, acting as if she didn't understand what he was saying. Though deep inside, she had a bad premonition about this. Feeling the intense pain in her heart, she thought, 'No, It can't be!'

"I know you have an idea why. Don't be naive, Scarlett," Dylan said, prompting Scarlett to feel upset and insulted. She was not naive! She just wanted him to confirm her guess.

"Dylan, I want to hear it from you. I want to know why," Scarlett calmly demanded, but inwardly, she was about to explode in anger.

Dylan sighed deeply and stated, "We can't be together, Scarlett. I don't love you anymore." Hearing his straightforward answer, Scarlett felt her world was turned upside down.

Scarlett lashed out at him, "What? Just like that?! You haven't shown up in front of me for weeks, and now you're telling me we can't be together because you don't love me anymore! Bullshit!"

"I told you the last time that I needed space to think about us. At that time, my feelings for you are fading. Then, when I returned, I found out what you did to Mom. For me, that was unacceptable!" Upon hearing his words, Scarlett was even more angered. Her face slightly darkened. She cursed inwardly, 'That old hag! To think that she complained to Dylan about what happened between us. What a bitch!'

"She provoked me first, Dylan. She forced me to leave your house. I just wanted to know where you are, but she hit me, "Scarlett hastily explained. However, Dylan just sarcastically laughed at her.

He glared at her and furiously said, "Cut your bullshit, Scarlett! You're great at acting, but my Mom isn't a liar. She never hit anyone!"

"Fine! She never hit me! But she's hiding you from me!" Scarlett argued. Although she loved him, she wouldn't insult him like this.

"She never hides me from you. I did that to find myself and think about our relationship. And now, I'm sure you have no place here," Dylan calmly said and pointed to his heart. Scarlett was hurt by what he said.

"No. You're lying, right? This is only a prank," Scarlett shook her head and said shakily, trying to suppress her cry.

"You know I will never lie about this, Scarlett. Yes, I've loved you before but not anymore. I'm sorry. You deserve someone better. Someone who can be there for you and won't leave you," Dylan gently said while staring at her.

"No ... no ... no ... that's not true. You love me, Dylan. You love me," Scarlett desperately uttered, and her tears started to fall uncontrollably. How could Dylan do this to her? She had loved him in the two years that they had been together. And now, he was telling her he didn't love her anymore? The pain was so raw and unexpected that Scarlett sobbed loudly. No, she wouldn't accept this!

She sat down and pleaded, crying, "You're just confused, Dylan. I can give you some time. Just… just don't leave me, okay?"

Dylan shook his head and replied, "I'm sorry, Scarlett, but I've already made up my mind. I'm also sure that you are no longer the one in my heart."

Scarlett trembled in anger. She stood up and approached him as she demanded, "Then tell me who replaced me in your heart! Who is she?! Tell me, Dylan!"

Dylan didn't say anything. He just allowed Scarlett to frantically shake him while clutching his clothes. In her anger, she didn't even care whether his clothes ended up torn. However, seeing that Dylan didn't have any reaction, she became angry even more.

"So, you don't want to tell me!" Scarlett accused him as she wiped the tears streaming down her cheeks. "Then I'll find it out myself. And if I did find out who she is..." she paused and looked at his eyes directly.

Scarlett vowed, "... I swear to God, Dylan. I swear I'll do everything for you not to end up with her. You know me and what I'm capable of, Dylan. Just wait. I will make her life a living hell." Her expression was twisted, making her look vicious.

Upon hearing this, Dylan warned her, "Don't you even dare hurt her, Scarlett! You know me too. I'll do everything in my power to protect her from you! Don't test my patience because you knew you wouldn't handle my anger! "While saying these words, Dylan tightly gripped her shoulders. Although it was pretty painful, Scarlett didn't even notice it as she stared at the man she had loved for so long, defending the one he now loved.

"I dare you, Dylan. Also, what can you do? Anyway, I would love to see her suffer. So, if I were you, I'll do anything to hide her from me. Because if I did, I'd make her pay for breaking our relationship," Scarlett angrily retorted, raising both hands to shrug the hands that were tightly gripping her shoulders. Nonetheless, his hands didn't budge a bit.

Dylan helplessly said, "I won't let you do anything to her, Scarlett. I promise you that. Just accept it, Scarlett. I don't love you anymore, and nothing will change that. In the future, you can find someone better than me."

"Tsk!" Scarlett chuckled dryly, "I can't. You are the only one for me, Dylan, and I will do all I can to bring you back to me. I will make you crawl and beg just to return to me."

"It won't happen, Scarlett. It won't," Dylan decisively said.

"It will. Just wait for it, Dylan," Scarlett confidently stated, obsessively looking at him.

"I've already said everything I wanted to tell you. I just came here to end what's going on between us. We're done, and our relationship will never return to how it was before," Dylan said and turned to leave. But before he could touch the doorknob, Scarlett abruptly spoke, which made him stop.

Scarlett maliciously stated with his back on her, "I'm serious, Dylan. Don't let me find her nor see her. I promise that the day I've seen her? I'll make her pay in a way that even you can't afford."

Dylan turned to her and smiled, saying, "Even if you see her, I won't let you hurt her. I promise you that. I will die first before you hurt her." With that, he left her condo without turning back.

Suddenly, Scarlett felt drained and weakly leaned on the sofa. She couldn't help but cry because of the pain she was feeling in her heart. She loved him so much, and his existence was embedded in her system that it was impossible to forget him. Scarlett laughed wildly and thought, 'As for him, he could easily change me in his heart, huh?'

She got up and went straight to the mini bar. Then, she took out the strongest liquor in her collection and opened it. Scarlett didn't bother getting a wine glass as she drank straight from it while tears still flowed in her eyes.

"How can I hate you, Dylan?" she cried and drank again. "Two years… How can I possibly forget you?!" she shouted and looked up again to stop her tears from falling.

Halfway through the bottle, she already felt dizzy but continued to empty it. She was trying to drown herself in alcohol, thinking the pain would lessen even more. Alas, it didn't work!

"Why the hell are these tears falling on my face?!" she irritatedly asked, brushing it away with irritation.

When Scarlett was about to finish the bottle, her world suddenly spun. The next thing she knew, she was lying on the floor and closing her eyes because of the pain and the dizziness she was feeling.

"How can I forget you, Dylan?" Scarlett murmured weakly and was gradually swallowed up by the darkness.
