Chapter 79: Chapter 79
I could almost hear the crashing of the waves on the far shore because of the intense silence that enveloped our table. Everybody were speechless and didn't know what to say to Agustine's answer. I could see the others carefully looking at me, guessing what the man in front of me was talking about.
"Do you want to join us?" Drea broke the silence.
I couldn't avoid but look at her. I know that she is completely aware of what Agustine just said but she just ignored it. I don't know if I should thank her for breaking the silence or be pissed because I can sense her rudeness and negative criticism against me.
Just like what Agustine did earlier he briefly looked at Drea and turned back his full attention to me.
"Can I join?" he asked politely.
I swallowed the lump in my throat but I was still unable to speak. The little annoyance that I felt for my old classmate was immediately shifted to nervousness because of Agustine's existing presence. I know for sure that they'll talk ill about me.
It's funny to think that before, I didn't care what they said but now I feel skeptical about what they can negatively say about me.
I was stunned when Agustine made the distance between us smaller. Nexus might have felt awkward and move a little bit away from me. I held my breath when Agustine held my arm gently.
"I'll just wait for you outside if you don't want me here. Take your time, have a good moment with your friends," he said hoarsely, full of understanding.
Far from the Agustine I know whose wants must be immediately pursued. There seemed to be something that touched my chest as he tried to understand me despite the objections against his will. He was about to turn his back when I stopped him. I was reluctant to hold on to his arm and greet his eyes. He's watching me intently; amazed and confused.
"Do you want to... Join us?" I murmured.
He still stared at me for a few seconds. Suddenly, he slowly licked the lower part of his lip and looked at me.
"I want to be with you, but if you are not comfortable, I won't force you. So, sweetie, tell me. Do you want me to join you here?" he sweetly said.
I have lost my attention to the people around us. My whole attention was only focused on Agustine. I smiled at him and then nodded. Jared quickly left my side, as if he knew where the man in front of me should be.
I went along with Agustine's seat and looked at the people at our desk. For a moment, everyone seemed to be unaware of what they should do. I don't know if it's because of the truth running around their mind or because of a famous businessman sitting with us today.
"So, what is your ongoing project, mister?" Again, Drea initiated to break the silence.
"A hotel," Agustine answered.
I just silently breathed a deep breath and poured the drink in my my glass. I wondered if I was going to give Agustine a drink but before I could move, Drea had already been ahead of me. My jaw clenched as I stared at her hands holding the glass that she is offering to Agustine.
"I'm sorry, but I have no intention to drink," he said.
Drea raised an eyebrow, a little but offended because Agustine turned her shot. "I thought you were going to join us?" she said.
"Yeah. I said I'll join, but I did not say I will drink," he cleared out.
I was in awe and intensely grinning. Of course, he got a point.
"I'm sorry," Agustine added.
Drea tried her best to smile and drank the wine she poured by herself. After that, her eyesight was focused on me. The edge of her lip rose and she glanced at Agustine again.
"You said you came here for your girlfriend," she started.
I immediately tightened my grip on to the glass of liquor as I heard her speak. Even tough it was not yet starting, I could already feel the insult in her tone. I already expected that from her but still, I can’t help but be pissed.
"Yes," Agustine confirmed and slightly moved closer to me.
He glimpsed at me for a moment but I kept my eyes on Drea who was glaring at me, intently.
"Do you even know what kind of girl she is?" she spat.
Nexus automatically went closer to my ear. "Let her be. Just, don't mind her," he was trying to comfort me.
"Yes," Agustine answered Drea coldly.
Drea let out a short laugh and smirked, then she lazily looked at my direction. "So it’s fine with that your girl is flirting with different men?" she strongly accused.
I gritted my teeth and balled my fist. She is just used to humiliate me and in making me look like a whore.
"Drea, let's continue drinking," Jared interrupted.
"He's the example." Drea pointed at my friend, then darted her finger at Nexus next. "And him," she uttered. "They are your girlfriend’s side chics."
Silence enveloped our place after that. No one tried to continue drinking their alcohol, no one tried to speak, and no body even tried to move. Everyone was waiting for what will be happening next.
I want to look at Agustine but I'm afraid. I don't know where my fear comes from because it's not normal for me to be frightened of something, especially not someone. And I don't even know what I'm afraid of.
What if he’d consider what she was saying?
What if he believes in her?
I was stunned when I heard Agustine's cold laugh next to me. Only then did I manage to look back at him. If earlier he was only looking at Drea for a moment, now he focused his attention on her.
"How can you be so sure?" he smiled curiously.
It's like something was digging in my stomach when I see his posted smile.
Does he believe it?
"Well, she always makes friends with boys." Drea shrugged.
Agustine let out a laugh again. "Do you have male friends?" he asked.
"Yes," Drea responded even though she was a little surprised by Agustine's question.
"So, you befriended them to flirt?" Augustine mocked.
I bit my lower lip as the playful aura began to fade from his face. His jaw was tensing as he stared darkly at Drea, Threatening.
Drea was stunned and couldn't answer right away. Perhaps, whats he accused me of came back to her. I could see her ears turning red from embarrassment.
"Don't you dare insult my girl in front of me, Miss. I can disrespect you the way you disrespect her. I don't mind if you are a girl," Agustine warned sharply and then glanced at me.
"I'll get back to my car to get my spare shirt. Yours is wet. Change first and we'll leave this shitty reunion. Sorry, but I cannot let you stay here. I might not keep myself from punching a girl," he hissed and stood up from his seat.
He didn't wait for me to speak. He finally turned around to walk out. Leaving me with my racing heartbeat as I watched his back disappear from my sight.
Damn you, Agustine. I haven't even spent an hour here!
