Chapter 114: Chapter 114
As I peered into the pitch-black abyss, the chilly breeze embraced my body. Even though it's past midnight, I am back on the hospital's rooftop. I've been standing still and pondering things for practically an hour.
I'll admit, Agustine's remarks stayed in the back of my head. I experienced conflicting emotions. Happy? Afraid? Bewildered.
I let out a sigh and looked up at the stars. We are not a teen anymore. If we have decisions that need to be made, we don't have to go in circles.
I suddenly remembered his interview five years ago. I quickly took out my cell phone and tried to find it on the internet. Luckily, it was still there.
I'm shaking while clicking on the play button of the video. I held my breath when some reporters started questioning him.
"Mr. Revelar, would you confirm that you are the person featured in the audio recording?"
"Yes," Agustine answered directly and without hesitation.
"Are you being blackmailed that time? Drugged? Or something?"
Agustine's face instantly darkened. He shot a sharp look at the reporter who asked. I did bite my bottom lip myself.
He's protecting me even though I really lured him that night.
Agustine closed his eyes tightly and took a deep breath. He looked at the people around him one by one and then slowly lifted a piece of paper. Our marriage certificate.
"First, I wanted to inform you that the girl in the voice recording is my WIFE," he emphasized.
I could hear the gasps of people around me because of the shock. Even I couldn't stop my eyes from widening even after he told me what he did before.
"I am sorry if our love making circulated in the internet, but like what I've said. She's my wife, I am her husband, we're married. So, obviously, we're doing it and there's nothing wrong with that. My wife is not a whore." His jaw tensed as if he wanted to punch everyone who spoke negatively about me.
"My wife shouldn't be the center of your attention right now. Nothing we did was wrong. It was our private moment. The person who disseminated the voice recording should be held accountable for this. Not my wife, not me. So fvcking stop degrading or talking shit about her. Grow up people, as a result of your increased attention to other things, you missed the true offender."
Silence enveloped the area. No one dared to speak. Agustine stood tall and faced all of them with an authority.
"Never again attempt to disparage my wife. I swear, I will put you all in jail even if I run out of money." Agustine left the crowd speechless.
I can feel the heat in the corner of my eyes. I will admit that it have caused something in my chest that is strange. He protected me. He defended me.
I put my phone back in my pocket. I tried to feel myself. In the past years, I always said that I don't have feelings for him anymore. But when I dream of him. . . that's when I realized that maybe I was saying that because I believed that he had another family. That having love for him is useless and a mistake. However, now that I know everything. . . it appeared that my feelings have returned. It seemed to resurface some place in my heart.
"Insomnia?" Agustine's voice interrupted my thoughts.
I slowly turned to him. He frowned and looked directly at me. Air was blowing his growing hair in front of his face. I avoided sulking. His aura was so powerful, even in its simplicity.
He started walking towards me. I looked away and focused my attention on the void. That's my chest losing again because of the force of that pounding.
I caught my breath when I felt his hand on my arm. He carefully made me face him and met my eyes. I unconsciously swallowed when I saw the sincerity in his eyes.
"Are you . . . willing to accept me again?" he asked hoarsely. "I swear, I won't let you down this time."
I opened my mouth to speak, but I couldn't find the right words to say. In the end I slightly distanced myself from him. I immediately regretted it because it was obvious that he was hurt by what I did to stay away.
"Wait. Let me process everything," I stopped him from thinking about anything. "I-I'm still in shock," I explained.
His lips slightly pouted. He seemed to enjoy seeing my reaction. I wanted to torture him because his mood changed so quickly.
"Let's talk about our kids first," I suggested.
He lazily tilted his head. "They want us to stay together."
"So . . . we're going to . . . live in one house?" I swallowed hard while imagining that.
Oh, God. . .
"Obviously."
I glared at him.
"What? I just answered your question," he insisted.
I just rolled my eyes at him and leaned my arms on the rooftop railings. I took a deep breath before looking at him again.
"How did it happen? The marriage," I clarified.
He imitated my position again. He looked ahead and smiled sparingly.
"I used your signature and made my connections to process it," he simply explained.
"But I only signed one. Aren't three signatures needed there?"
Maybe even more.
"I forged the other specimen."
"You what?!" I couldn't help but raise my voice at him.
He just gave me a quick glance and gave me an empty smile. "Now that you know, you have a chance to erase our marriage. You can easily file a lawsuit and prove that it's fake."
I blinked several times after he said that. I couldn't speak and just kept watching his peaceful face staring into nothingness.
"I just can't sleep," I replied, trying to act formal.
He went to my side and imitated what I'm doing. "Your mom is back. She's with your father and stepmom," he informed.
I just nodded because I felt like I would stutter to answer. He didn't say a word after that. We both looked at the sky as well as the city below the building.
"Are you . . . with someone?"
I automatically turned around when he spoke. "What do you mean?" I asked back as I raised an eyebrow in confusion.
He looked back at me, then slowly licked his bottom lip. "I mean . . . are you in a relationship?"
I couldn't help but widen my eyes. I was dumbfounded and didn't know how to answer his question. I could feel my breath quickening as I realized where this talk is leading. Damn!
"N-None," I stuttered and averted my gaze. "You are my last," I whispered.
Being in a dark atmosphere was a blessing in disguise because I know, for sure, that I am blushing with embarrassment right now.
He asked questions directly, thing that he inherited from his mother.
"Khrystal . . ." he called softly.
I bit my lower lip. "Hmm?" I chanted while not looking at him.
Damn, I'm sweating!
He's giving me a chance to get away. He gives me the decision if I keep our marriage declared.
"Why would I?" I tried to lighten up the mood. "The father of my children would be imprisoned." I rolled my eyes and rested my elbow on the railings.
He shrugged. "That's the only way to escape from me."
I snorted softly. "Well, it's okay . . ." I paused for a second.
From the corner of my eyes, I saw him shifted and stared at me.
"I don't intend to run away," I whispered and looked at him, then smiled. "Let's give our children a complete and happy family, Agustine."
His eyes widened and his jaw dropped in shock. I couldn't help but cry while laughing.
"T-This isn't a dream right?" he stammered.
His eyes started to turn red as tears accumulated there.
"No, Agustine. You are not dreaming, I am really taking you back," I said softly.
Like what I've said, we're not teenagers anymore. We have wasted a lot of time and this is not the time to waste it again.
"Oh, fvck!" he cursed out and punched in the air. "Oh, God, thank you!" he continued.
Tears started to fall as he looked back at me. He came slowly and then wrapped me around the waist. He pressed our foreheads together as we both stared at each other.
"I love you. For the past five years, I haven't loved anybody else. Despite our miscommunication, my love for you stayed in my heart. It's like you cast a spell on it; you inscribed your name in the deep crap of me. I'm sorry if I hurt you back then, but I promise I'll do better now."
Every line he uttered touched my heart. We may have settled quickly now but I feel that what is happening is right. For us, for the children, for our family.
I caught my breath when Agustine moved away and knelt in front of me. New tears poured down my cheeks as I watched him take out a small red box from his pocket.
"I know, this is not the right place and time to propose. I am sorry if I didn't have a balloon or a flower with me. But damn, babe, I swear I'll make several marriage proposals again after this. Khrystal Dagsinal, please . . . marry me . . ." He gently opened the box, a simple yet elegant ring with a diamond on it was revealed in front of me.
I couldn't stop myself from laughing as my tears continued to flow. "I love you too, Agustine. Despite what we both went through; I never lost my love for you. Even in times when I thought it was forbidden. You were the first man who made me feel valued. You defended me. You boosted my confidence. You gave me a home. So, yes, Agustine. I'll marry you."
His tears fell continuously. He slowly stood up and held my hand. He put the ring on my finger after that he met my eyes again.
"I love you . . ."
I smiled because I felt it. It's amazing to think that despite the past five years, despite the distance between us, I feel that nothing has changed in our love of each other.
"I love you too much," I replied and leaned forward to put my lips on his.
I felt his arm wrapped around my waist as he returned my kisses. Under the night sky, with the stars watching us, we sealed our love.
Thank you for bringing out the best in me.
