“NO...!” I’m screaming.

A body hitting the floor makes everyone freeze…

I point my gaze to Lena on the alleyway floor and that causes my heart to stop. I hit the man in the crotch making his grip loosen on me and I take the opportunity to shove him off from me. “Shit, you’re supposed to get the other girl not her! Sasha’s gonna kill us” The man who attacked me says before running down the alley, disappearing into the dark. “Shit!” Lena’s attacker says but my focus isn’t on them, it’s on my limp girlfriend’s body which lay on the alleyway floor.

“Lena!” I yell, getting up fully and running over to her.

“No… no… no… Lena baby, please no…” I whisper, scooping her up with my arms and checking her pulse.

Lena breathing quick and shallow, her heartbeat pounding rapidly “No Lena please…” I whisper, my eyes filling with tears as I see a huge gash on the back of Lena’s head, the blood mating her dirty black hair. By now the two men have disappeared and I’m alone in the alleyway with a limp body in my arms. I reach over my phone and shakily dial 911, holding Lena’s body in my arms as the phone rings.

“911 what’s your emergency?” The operator says through the phone.

“H…hi hello I’m at Retro Ride dinner, m…my girlfriend and I just got jumped in the alleyway next to it” I say quickly, my hands shaking as I try to stop Lena’s bleeding.

“Are there any serious injuries?” The operator says.

“Y…yes, my girlfriend has a huge gash on the back of her head and she’s unconscious… uh… she’s breathing shallow and her heartbeat is really fucking fast!” I say, getting choked up.

“Baby stay with me…. stay with me” I whisper, tears now freely falling.

“Oh God, she’s not breathing… she’s not breathing! Please help” I start to feel panicky and breathless.

“Paramedics are on the way, please stay with us… and your name is?” The operator says.

“I’m Maia, Maia LaLuna and my girlfriend is Aleena Mitchell” I choke out, the second feeling like hours.

“Alright we’re on our way… calm down... stop the bleeding with your hands as long as you can” The operator says.

A few minutes later the paramedic arrives and they run towards me as I flag them to the alleyway, they quickly get Lena in a gurney and rush her into the back of the ambulance.

“You’re her girlfriend right?” The paramedic says as they’re dealing with Lena.

“Y…yeah I’m her girlfriend” I say shakily, the pain from the punches and kicks starting to arrive.

“Ride in the ambulance to the hospital, you look pretty beat up as well” The paramedic notes, pointing to my black eye.

I nod my head and climb into the back of the ambulance, by now Lena already has a breathing mask on and machines hooked up to her to get her stats. I sit next to her stretcher as the two medics sit across from me, one of them grabbing an ice pack and handing it to me “Thanks…” I say softly “Is she’s gonna be okay?” I say, putting the ice pack up to my eyes. “Hopefully” The medic says. I sigh as I grab Lena’s hand, rubbing my knuckles over her thumbs softly.

A silence falls in the room, nothing is heard except the ambulance sirens and Lena’s heart machine beating. “What happened?” One of the female paramedics asks, looking at me wearily. I explain to them everything, the motorcycle, the diner, the crazy ex, the alleyway, every single detail until they arrive at the scene. “Jeez Christ” She whispers as she’s looking down. “Yeah sucks…” I chuckle softly, squeezing Lena’s hand gently.

My head hangs low and another silence falls in the cabin of the ambulance before a soft whisper seems like a shout “M… Maia…” Lena’s voice strains out. My head shoots up as I squeeze her hand “I’m right here baby… I’m right here” I say, watching Lena’s eyes fluttered opened and closed. “I… I love you” Lena whispers. Before I can respond her lines go haywire and her body goes limp. “Shit!” The paramedic says, pushing me out of the way to get on either side of Lena.

“She’s having a cardiac arrest, step on it!” One of the paramedics yells, grabbing an AED and cutting open her basic grey sweatshirt, prepare her to get shocked. Tears start swelling from my eyes as I watch the whole scene unfold, her heart trying to be shocked back to normal by the paramedics. My eyes can’t tear away from Lena’s body, my entire world breaking in front of me. “Please Lena… I can’t fucking lose you” I whisper as I watch her being shocked.

“Jesus I think she can’t make it” One of the paramedics says. My world suddenly stops as I heard the paramedic says that. “Come on… come on… stay with us…” The lady says. The ambulance stops, the paramedics take Lena in rush to the emergency room. I’m sitting in the waiting room with an ice pack on my black eye while Lena is in emergency surgery. She went into cardiac arrest from all of the kicks in her chest and stomach she broke a rib and was bleeding internally.

My entire body aches from the punches, the crying, everything just hurts but it doesn't compare as what my heart felt for Lena. I reach over Lena’s phone and unlock her phone, I call Dmitri. “Hello… It’s me Maia” I say through the phone. “Hello, what happened? Why are you using Lena’s phone” Dmitri says. I explain him about what happened to Lena and I, Dmitri got mad as he knows Sasha did this to us.

“I’ll be there soon, please let me know if something happen” Dmitri says “They need to pay all of the shit they did to Lena” Dmitri mumble as he hangs up the phone. The waiting room temperature is getting cold and colder, as my heart stops while waiting for the doctor to out from the surgery room. I can’t hold my tears and cry in silence, I don’t know what to do… everything freeze. I reach over my phone and call Rosa with tears on my cheeks.

“Hello…” I say in a low voice.

“Hey… honey what happened? Why are you crying, are you okay?” Rosa says through the phone, she sounds worried.

“We got jumped in the alleyway, I’m okay… just a few of scrapes and a black eye but Lena…” I sob and cry.

“Hey… hey… shhh… she’s gonna be alright… she’s the strongest woman I’ve ever know” Rosa tries to calm me down.

“I don’t know if she will…” I say as I wipe the tears on my cheeks.

“I can’t lose her…” I start to cry again, my tears flowing down my face at an unstoppable rate.

“She had a huge gash on the back of her head and fuck… on the way to the hospital she went into cardiac arrest… I can’t fucking lose her… I love her so fucking much… I cannot even say I love you too to her” I sob into the phone, my entire body shaking as I think about losing Lena.

“I wish that was me… not her…” I cry through the phone.

“Don’t worry sweetheart, she’s gonna be okay… she’s a strong woman, I’m here for you” Rosa says through the phone.

“Do you need anything? Food? Water?” Rosa asks.

My stomach turns, I feel like throwing up at the thought of eating while my baby Lena is laying in the cold surgery room alone.

“No, I’m okay… thanks Rosa” I say as I wipe my tears.

“Well, if you need anything please let me know...” Rosa says.

“Thanks, it means a lot…” I say.

As we end the phone call, I walk around the corridor, biting my nails and thinking about Lena… I’m in halfway to die knowing that I might lose someone who meant a lot to me. I was glad that we had at least a few months of happiness together but today I’m not glad… I hope we both wait until the whole thing is perfectly done, having a happy family, kids, and happy life together. “God, please save her…” I say deep inside.

Standing in front of the surgery room, hoping the doctor will show up and tell me if Lena is fine, the nurse out from the room and I ask her about how long the surgery will be done. “It’s been 2 hours I’ve been sitting and walking around this place… how long the surgery will be done?” I say worryingly. “It will be over soon, don’t worry… we’ll do our best!” The nurse says. She’s back into the room as we heard the ‘beeb……’ sounds from Lena’s breathing machine.

“No no… no way…………..” My limp body fell to the floor as I heard the sounds and I start crying in front of the surgery room landing my head on the door.

“Oh, God… Lena… Please don’t leave me alone... I can’t lose you…”

You promised me that you will never leave me, please keep your promise… and don't leave me like this.
