Chapter 64: Chapter 64

Chapter 64 Ella kissed Brian

Immediately Brian’s car came to a halt in Meyer’s compound he alighted nervously yet housing the strong feeling of antagonism. He held out Meyers’s passport photo which he had picked the other day and pranced to her door like an ireful tiger.

“Meyer!” he called, slamming on her door. “Meyer!” he called yet again, wound down the handle of the door and slamming on it. “Meyer! I know you are in. open the door now! He barked.

At once a dog in the other flat ensued a heavy woof-woof-woof after being startled by Brian’s noise.

“Oh my God! Where is this girl? Where is this traitor?” he quarreled within himself and walked to the garden to comb around for her.

Ever since he picked the passport photo of Meyer in a police uniform, smiling stilly, he had experienced endless nightmares and troubled thoughts. If anyone on earth had told him Meyer was a police officer, he would have fallen out with that person. He perceived she was up to good or ruin but more of ruin. He was being thrown into the past events; how Meyer permanently stopped those hoodlums from harassing him and her prompt release at the police station. All along he had given her the cold shoulder it could be she wanted to share something with him. He had always known Meyer had a secret up her gut and the passport photo had unfolded it.

“Meyer!’ he called, advancing to the backyard, peeped into the window and was ministered with absolute tranquility; obviously there was no sign of life in there. He could see the unkempt surrounding in the room; as though she left hurriedly at an odd hour and avoided preying eyes.

About taking his leave, there was a short tapping noise and it was a piece of wrapped paper that dropped on the floor. It had fallen from the door. Precipitately he made to the paper, unfolded it and started reading:

Dear Brian,

I would have loved to call you sweetheart but I don’t deserve you, you made me believe so.

If ever you get this written note, which I don’t think you would, because the whirl wind could toss it into the snow and it will get ruined, just know that I’m leaving the surfaces of Miami because of you. I have a lot to reveal to you. But if ever we meet in future, for hate not for love, which you have always wanted, I will reveal some secrets to you, and you may get the surprise of your life.

My regards to your angel, Kate.

Meyer, the lovelorn.

Brian read it over and over again until he almost could recite it by heart. The last line crazed him so much that he channeled all manner of thoughts to it; … and you may get the surprise of your life. He folded the piece of paper and pocketed it before he made to his car and zoomed off. All along on the steering he had been suffused with thoughts; if Meyer could hide her identity as a police officer then there was nothing she couldn’t pull through. Indeed he was messing around with the wrong person. He really hungered to see her and know of the secrets.

“What could she be hiding? And what surprise is she talking about?”Brian whispered within himself and sighed.

“I am having the best time of my life.” Ella said to Brian pulling back her jaw in huge smiles and fondling her fingers playfully.

Brian was nursing little Khally, who was growing bigger and robust- in few months he would be one year old. Brian smiled back at Ella and wondered if she though he didn’t know the reason for her excitement; he had fought back the urge to reveal to her the moment her fiancée proposed to her after a heated round of sex; he waited for the appointed time she would break the news to him. The other night grandma mentioned Ella in their discussion; she complained Ella‘s attitude to work had changed ever since she met her fiancée. And he agreed to discuss it with her later on.

“What could that be?” Brian asked pretentiously.

She held out her finger, “He proposed to me e e e!” she said as his face got possessed with a contagious smile.

“Wow,” Brian said and held her fingers in admiration.

Do you know what Brian?” Ella sounded, ‘I never knew he was a billionaire.”

“Are you kidding me? Surprises hung across Brian’s face, as he said, “I never knew too. What does his profile look like?” he asked.

“Em,” she shook her loosed dark hair that spread across her shoulders. “He is the CEO of Avada Real Estate and also a gold merchant of repute.”

“Oh my God!” Brian exclaimed and patted little Khally on the back as he resumed a slight sob. “Oh sorry Khally,” he nursed him and said to Ella, “He must be damn hungry now.”

Ella scowled her face. “Khally eats too much these days,” she said as she stretched her hands to carry him, “Any ways your new father is a billionaire and can always take care of you.” She brought out his feeding bottle from the carrier, shook it properly and fed him. “Shhh eat your food and stop disturbing us,” she warned as Khally sobbed under his throat.

“When are you set for the wedding?” he asked.

“In one week.”

“It came too soon. You just met this man a month ago, and now you are walking down the aisle.” His countenance fell and Ella noticed it.

“Why are you troubled? Are you not happy for me?”

“I am happy for you but not comfortable with it.”

She asked keenly, “What is the problem then?”

He snorted, rolled his eyes and faced downwards. “Grandma complained your attitude towards your job has changed since you met him. I am not too comfortable with him either. I don’t know why but I wish I could put an end to your union.”

“What!” she groaned. “But why?” she asked anxiously. “Tell me why because we love each other so much.”

“I don’t know. You just have to be careful. What will become of your job now?”

“I will quit. After our wedding we will be relocating to New York where he resides.”

Brian became heavy. “So I won’t set my eyes on you again,” he said soberly.

Khally had fallen asleep while eating and she laid him in the bed, and turned to Brian. “We will see. I will be visiting you.”

“I am going to miss you,” said Brian and their eyes locked.

Just then, like the speed of lightning, she pushed her face to his and kissed him deeply and passionately; the moisture that accompanied the kiss was strange and gracious.

Brian protested. “No, no,” he pulled back his face. “What are you doing? If your man walks in on us do you know what could happen?” He held her face.

She smacked her lips, held his hands and stared into his eyes. I am not kissing you because I feel a thing for you. I kissed you to appreciate you for all you have done for me and Khally all this while. You have been more than a husband and a lover and I am grateful.”

Brian smacked his lips and smiled; he hadn’t had such kiss in a while.
