Chapter 322: Chapter 322
Chapter 322
~I secured our future~
“Why the hell are you shouting? You killed her! I regret having you as my son. You think you own yourself and so take drastic actions that hurt the ones you love. What were you thinking when you suddenly decided to make it to California on that very day without any good reason. She saw on TV how her grandson who left for California was being arraigned for murder. Do you realize what trauma and destabilization you caused her? Your absence took her to the hospital you son of a gun…” he sniffed.
“Stop dad! Stop!” Brian snapped, sniffed and wiped the tears that trickled down his cheeks. “I took the right decision by going to save the one I love so much. If I had revealed it you wouldn’t have let me embark on that journey. I had to keep to my silence and do what was on my mind…”
Coleman barked, “What fucking love are you talking about? What do you know about love? Where is the love when the people dearest to you perish because of your impromptu decision? Where is the love when you disrespect what other people feel about you? Grandma missed you so much. Everyday she mentioned you and your name was becoming a cliché across the entire house. She felt she had lost a soul food, you were everything to her. She wanted to have you back in her arms. That very moment she saw you on TV being arraigned for a crime you didn’t commit; she died a million times in her heart and shut her door to seeing you again. There was no need staying alive. Grandma died with your name on her lips. What other love could be more than that?” Coleman wept as his entire body trembled and shook in wrath and pain.
Brian had already been all tears as he bowed his head and wept bitterly, “I am so…sorry dad. Please forgive me for such drastic decision from me. I never intended to kill grandma. Trust me I love her so much. But I had to go for the girl of my dream. I love Kate so much that I could take my life for her sake. I didn’t want her to go to jail for a crime which I know she didn’t commit...”
“Keep shut you pin head!” Coleman barked, “How much do you know about Kate? You have been away for years. How would you know the beast she had turned into all these while you were away? I hope you are happy right now for taking her place, while she is free living like a mouse out there. For killing grandma I promise you endless suffering in jail…”
Brian interjected and slammed on the table, “Stop!”
The prison warden standing by cautioned him, “Order and you have two minutes to round off!” he groaned.
Brian breathed uneasily, rolled his eyes at Coleman and muttered, “This is the only time I can prove my love for Kate. If I don’t my mind would never be at peace and I would never forgive myself for watching a girl I love serve a 20-years- jail term while I am alive.”
“I pray you die in jail!” Coleman beamed and widened his gaze at him.
Brian shot a scary stare into his face, wondering how hurt his father was now to have spoken in such uncouth manner.

Mr. Fanny had endeared to establish an exact time he often spoke with Lucy on the phone. It was usually 10 PM, on a daily when phone booth would be free, inmates must have slept and jail yard would have quietened for its nocturnal hours.
So on this fateful midnight he tucked up at the phone booth and dialed her, with smiles so hugely held that he couldn’t wait to hear her sonorous, sensual voice.
“Hi, heartthrob,” her voice came peaceful from the other end.
“Hello, the woman of my dream,” Mr. Fanny said, dilating a more contagious smile across his face, “How was your day today?” he asked.
“Um… not quite bad, except for some gay inmate that made passes at me, “Lucy said from the other end. “She later confronted me.”
Mr. Fanny raised a brow, “Are you kidding me? What was your response? He asked, arguing within himself if Lucy would join the rest of her inmates to be gay, since jail exposed them to such lifestyle.
Lucy chuckled, “What were you expecting me to say. I told her straight I was in love with a gorgeous man, whose heart was into mine already.”
He swallowed easily and let a breath of relief, “Sweet sauce you just have to be careful while in prison with gay. They could be crazy that you whenever you don’t return their favor or give into their emotions, he sounded and asked more quietly now, “What were you telling me the other day about your brother’s money for the drugs sold?”
“Yeah,” she sounded quieter too and glared around, “I don’t know how you are going to see this. But it would interest you to know that I have the one million dollars with me.”
“You do?” Mr. Fanny inquired anxiously.
“Yeah, I do. But it is hidden in the earth in a valley some where only I could locate. I don’t want you to be crazy at me for doing such and letting you pass through pain. I did it on purpose. Those police detective and sons to the oldie would have stolen it if they had found it. I hid that money for our future, so should we leave jail tomorrow we won’t be broke,” she said from the other side and noticed this strange quietness from Mr. Fanny.
“Hello, sweetie are you there?” she asked.
“Yeah, yeah, I am. You did well dear, but on the other hand I would have been a dead man by now if not for Brian, my daughter’s, boyfriend who taught the bullies a lesson of their lives and saved me from their wrath.”
“Oh , I can’t wait to appreciate Brian for saving your ass,” she said and shook her head. “My brother can go to hell now. That money is all we have now. Police have confiscated my car, house bank account, BBQ stall,” she breathed hard, “I just secured our future dear. I just did for the love I have for you…”
