Chapter 299

~Ella’s husband is alive~

Brian and grandma sat dead-struck before the medical doctor, waiting for him to be done reading through some documents that were presented to him few seconds before their arrival. From his sitting position, Brian could say that the documents were test results belonging to his father because he could see his name boldly written on it.

The long-haired, mediumtan, lanky doctor, who was obviously in his late forties, shook his head with disappointment already gushing across his face. Brian knew instantly that all was not well with his father . Something tragic had definitely happened to him, even while he remained seated, staring at the doctor’s loopy face , he had died severally in his mind struggling to fathom what had become of his father that instigated the loopy look on the face of the doctor.

Kept too long in the dark, with impatience parading through her head, grandma said in a trembling voice, “What has become of Coleman, doctor?” she sensed the doctor didn’t want to be too forward about his intention to convey to them that Coleman was terribly injured . But probably he wasn’t dead. If he were they would have been told thirty minutes ago they arrived and hounded the nurses and doctor about the condition of Coleman.

The doctor rubbed his nose and breathed hard jauntily once he dropped the test on the table and gazed upon Brian and grandma. He wanted to open his mouth to speak but shut his lips as soon as he did; as though the news were too much for him to say.

“Come on speak. We are all ears. What ever the news maybe we will summon the courage to accept it in good fate. It is the tragedy of life, and we just have to see it in that light and…” grandma couldn’t exceed that as tears trickled down her eyes and deprived her the voice to speak yet further. She only could sob and sniff as Brian rubbed her gently on her fragile shoulders.

“May I know you, ma’am,” the doctor demanded, gasping slightly under his breath.

Grandma swallowed hard, “The patient is my son and this is my grand son,” she held Brian firmly on his arm, as though to get support before the doctor would sound the terrifying news to them.

The doctor breathed hard, smacked his lips , stole a glance at the result almost winced but had to put himself under control to convey the news to them.

“I am sorry,” he said at first, his voice almost whistling as that of a snake hissing through , “Your son …” he stuttered, swallowed hard and smacked his lips.

Brian breathed hard and through bated breath, he completed it in his head… your son is dead. I knew it after seeing the condition of his crushed Ferrari.

The doctor repeated himself in a fresher note, “OK, here with me is the test result of your son,” he grinned swallowed hard yet again, “If he survives the coma which we are not certain yet whether he is in coma or he has passed on. But if he survives, he may never walk again.”

Grandma peered her face downwards, coughed and sobbed beyond control. Her body was already jerking, and then she raised her face to listen yet further to the doctor who was still speaking.

“The auto-crash cost him his spinal chord, crippled his joints, internal bleeding that deprived him oxygen. Presently he is under an oxygen mask to see if there is any sign of life in him. We are giving him a week to breathe naturally before we can proclaim him alive otherwise he is dead. Unless you can foot the expenses for oxygen to aid him after the one week before handing it over to them. Also with me is this mobile phone, wallet of dollars and keys to his Ferrari.” He gathered the items and handed over to Brian, who gazed upon them with great focus and emotion.

“He is not dead,” grandma snapped through gritted teeth. “I didn’t bring him into this world to die at that age. Can we see him now?” she demanded through trembling voice.

“Sure. I can lead you to the emergency, but you must be of controllable emotion. At this time he doesn’t need much disturbance,” the doctor sounded, referring to grandma who was still welled up with tears , with no sign of stopping soon. “Perk up, ma’am. God willing we will try our best to ensure he breathes again, at least to remain alive for you.

All the while grandma and the doctor were discussing, Brian was busy scrolling through the mobile phone of his father and noticed that Ella was the last caller before the accident and even after the accident , she had called several times more with a message that said;

I love you Coleman. We can still iron out our differences if you still want me.

Gently Brian deleted the message and went on to delete the history of calls even Ella’s contact from the phone. He thought as much; Coleman must have been distracted while driving which led to the auto crash. Grandma mustn’t know about this otherwise she would look down on his father and cancel Christmas on Ella’s ass. She had always perceived Ella to be an embodiment of ruin. Now he could attest to her words. He could count on his finger all the men that crossed her paths were either dead or living dead, with heart break that would take time to amend. But he was going to make her pay regardless of the fact that she was an accomplice in the death of her husband.

Vengeance on Ella Vengeance on Ella; Kept sounding in his head.

When Brian and grandma visited Coleman at the emergency he was quiet and still as light. Like the doctor the pulse machine was showing no sign of life. Coleman was less than a vegetable now. As though grandma was heeding to the words of the doctor, she held back her tears and only sniffed heavily, in the arms of Brian who couldn’t stop staring at his now vegetable father that was once livelier than life itself.

It was later in the day while Brian was all alone in his bedroom that a call came on his phone.

The number wasn’t saved so it showed no name. He picked up regardless…

“Hello, am I unto the asshole, Brian? You connived with my wife, to murder me, but I regret to tell you that I am alive, hale and hearty. Get ready for my vengeance. I am Fred, Ella’s husband,” the voice said from the other end.

The phone left Brian’s hand and dashed on the floor.

Ella’s husband was alive….
