Chapter 167

~Paternity test saga~

Ken had indulged her in wild sex and they had reached their third orgasm before dawn fell, even before the twilight at dawn set, Mrs. Fanny sneaked out of the bed quietly like a cat, advanced to the wardrobe, squeezed into a pair of tracksuit and sneakers, grabbed her water bottle, ear phones, sneaked to the door, and gave a careful stare at Ken who was still much asleep in bed. About opening the door to go for a false workout, an idea hit her in the head and she sneaked back to execute the idea; she reached to a pen and scribbled a written note on a piece of a paper;

OUT FOR WORK OUT, LOVE YOU… and then she dropped it on the bed for him to read once he woke up from sleep. Gently she opened the door, and sneaked out.

She wasn’t really out for workout; the workout was pretense she pulled so as not to be suspected by Ken. She was out to visit the doctor at the hospital so she could know the result of the paternity test which she believed the doctor must have conducted on him. She was just at her prime now and nothing would stop her from being Ken’s legally married wife. She had never been tortured in her life. She had been scared out of this world since Teddy phoned her while at the hospital and afterwards she had regretted all her actions; going to the club and gotten herself drunk only to be taken advantage blackmailed by Teddy.

“But it was just one night ,” she said within herself. “I can’t be pregnant for a total stranger. Never.” She breathed so uneasily that her heartbeat was increased by the fear that clogged her mind. “Ken has been the only man fucking me and I am pregnant for him, so why would Teddy phone me to inform me about being pregnant for him. He must be a bastard for even phoning me in the first and when I behold him with my eyes I will cancel Christmas on his ass,” she paused once she got into the hospital premises.

She had a deep breath, held her chest before walking into the reception.

The doctor had kept her waiting in his office since she got in, and never had she been able to control the thudding of her heartbeat and the curiosity that stood on her face. She had thought of scavenging the cupboards across the walls, the one in front of her, just to lay hold of the result and get to know her fate ahead of time.

“Oh where is he?” she nagged, glared at her watch to see that the time was past seven and Ken might have woken up from sleep and started searching for her.

She was much busy with her thought, when the creaking noise of the door interrupted her and she adjusted herself within the chair- the doctor had entered.

“Oh Mrs. Fanny apologies for keeping you waiting for such a long time. My attention was needed at the emergency ward,” he said through smiling face, tapped his fingers on the table and stared into her face, before noticing what she was putting on, “Wow, very nice you are ready for workout this morning. It will add to the health of the baby and yours too.” He added still at his smile as though there was something about her he wouldn’t want to share with her; something about the paternity test.

“Um… thank you doctor, talking about my pregnancy that is the reason I am here,” she said so calmly as her lips trembled, beholding the doctor’s smile drop on his face.”

“OK,” I am all ears,” replied the doctor as he cleared his throat and fell back in his chair with his arm folded to listen to what she had to say.

“I am very much aware you conducted a paternity test for my unborn child. I would fain want to know about the result. It will actually add to the health of my baby and me than workout.”

She intoned quietened and smacked her lips in anxiety.

The doctor shook his head and her heartbeat almost cracked through her breasts to come outside. “You have no need to worry. The paternity test is cool,” the doctor said idly and added, “By the way where is your husband, Ken?” he asked with a look that showed he wasn’t up to deceit even when he was hiding a secret.

“He is fine doctor and sends his regards. What are you hiding from me doctor. Now let me brief you the whole truth. Just the other day he proposed to me, and if the paternity test gets to be negative, I will…” she couldn’t complete her statement before she broke down in tears. She wailed so heavily that the doctor had to leave his chair to come over and nurse her.

She intended to tell the doctor that if the paternity test was negative she would be kicked out of his life

“OK, I got this wipe your tears, just perk up.” He rubbed her on the shoulders and then returned to his chair. When he must have fumbled his hand into the drawer, he brought a thick brown envelope and said, “I want to see your husband in person and give him the result because he asked for it. But I am going to brief you the result just to make sure you don’t break down emotionally,” all the while he spoke he was opening the envelope and once he was done, he lowered his gaze to the test result to read it.

Mrs. Fanny swallowed hard, having her heartbeat pounding harder. She studied the heavy look on the face of the doctor; how his lips paused and his brow furrowed in absolute thickness; through the glasses on his eyes she could see the curiosity that possessed his heart and say of a truth, things had fallen apart.

With his gaze raised to her after he must have perused through the result in his hand, he said, “the paternity is …” he breathed hard with a brief grin, “is negative. I am sorry; Mrs. Fanny your husband is not the father of the child in your womb.”
