Chapter 164: Chapter 164

Chapter 164

~Another man’s child~

With curiosity over him, Ken cleared his throat and was all ears as he patiently gazed upon the doctor to brief him on the state of her health.

“Is Mrs. Fanny your wife?” the doctor asked.

And Ken wondered if Kate had told him anything contrary and was the doctor in doubt of Mrs. Fanny being his wife. In as much as he felt guilty for lying about being her husband, he couldn’t have said anything less. Ken noticed the dullness that pulled across the face of the doctor and he was thrown in to the thought of welcoming a bad news.

“The reason I asked you about your marital status is that the medical form I have here says Mrs. Fanny is single.” The doctor curled his lips as he perused through the form, before he passed it onto Ken to have a look.

“And…” Ken stuttered with reckless abandon. He only could feel his jaw drop. “And who gave you this information if I may ask?” he asked at a breath.

“Her daughter, Kate. She filled the form once they got in here.” The doctor smacked his lips and stretched his hand to Ken to get the form. He fumbled into the cupboard on his left and pulled out a file.

Ken’s breathing whistled as he gulped a dry lump down his throat. Obviously the file in the doctor’s hand was housing the result of Mrs. Fanny’s diagnosis and he was plunged to wonder what was so special about the result that the doctor wouldn’t want to share it with him.

The doctor took off his glasses, “This is my take. You are not family and I can’t release certain information considered private to someone who is not family. Now you claim to be her husband. How do I get to know if you are being honest or not…”

Ken was forced to pull out his phone from his pocket, and interrupted the doctor. “Hold on doctor…” he opened to the gallery on his phone, and slid to photos he had with Mrs. Fanny, “Look at us, me and her at the picnic; at home; locking hands together; kissing together.” He gave the doctor the phone and when he couldn’t continue the long slides of photos where Ken and Mrs. Fanny loved-up, he cleared his throat and handed him the phone.

“So why all this misinformation about being single?” the doctor queried, pointing at the medical form of Mrs. Fanny, which he had handy.

“I wouldn’t know why Kate would pull such stunt,” Ken complained in a keen voice, “Just that she hasn’t been happy since I got hooked up with her mother.”

The doctor put on his glasses, stretched up the form to read out the result, “I am so much interested in getting in touch with family of the patient because the news is meant for the husband alone who can now spread it…”

Ken cut in “But doctor how is my wife?” he asked, even he could feel the pang of guilt hit his conscience the moment he mentioned my wife, and he was left to ponder if actually he still deserved Mrs. Fanny or not.

The doctor’s head gave a quick nod, “Frankly speaking she is fine and in good health, even as we speak she is much awake in her ward. We only placed restriction on visitors because she opted for it. She wouldn’t want anybody to visit her for now, with reasons best known to her. It is just that from the look on her face, I could perceive she has feud with family and wouldn’t want them to know anything about her.”

“Feud?” Ken asked, “She is my wife. We have no feud. We have been cohabiting in love and unity, unless she has some feud with her daughter which I don’t know off. The only thing I know is that Kate her daughter is really a jerk and falling out with her could barely be avoided.

“…Yes because she and her friend rushed her in,” the doctor cut in with a sigh, “Anyway,” he said and offered Ken a warm handshake.”

Ken was stunned, wondering what the handshake meant and what the doctor was up to. In the vein of fishing out what the doctor was up to, Ken heard the doctor say, “Congratulations. Your wife is one week pregnant.”

Ken breathed, “What!” and stood up powerfully like a robot. With a nod the doctor affirmed, “Yes one week pregnant.” He gazed upon Ken and argued if the brightness and smile that pulled down his cheeks were for better or for the worse.

Of a truth Ken was cast into a dire thought of the last time he had sex with Mrs. Fanny. He knew they had had countless rounds of sex in different places and at different times and he could recall vividly the last time they had sex was past and not too recently…

He snapped out of the thought and appreciated, “I am so over whelmed doctor. Thank you, I appreciate,” he said with the looks on his face saying otherwise. An idea just hit him in the head and then he demanded, “Um… doctor can we run a paternity test on the unborn child just to know if I am actually the father?”

With a thoughtful smile on his face, the doctor replied, “Sure it is called prenatal paternity test. It involves a non-invasive test and it is the safest way to ascertain paternity in unborn babies,” the doctor intoned.

Ken nodded and sounded curiously, “I need it done and please she shouldn’t know of it. Please,” he pled yet further.

The doctor grinned, “Um …OK. The nurse will take your blood sample and in less than twenty four hours the result will be out,” he said.

And Ken stood up to disperse, “Thank you very much, doctor,” he gave him a warm handshake. “My pleasure meeting you.”

“The pleasure is all mine, Barrister Ken,” the doctor replied.

“So can I see her now?” ken asked.

“Sure after you,” the doctor told him and led him to the ward were Mrs. Fanny was.

Mrs. Fanny lay idly in the ward, lost in the cloud of thought about Ken welcoming the pregnancy, when suddenly her phone buzzed with a call. Quickly she stretched to it and picked up.

“Hello sweetheart,” the voice said from the other end.

“Who am I unto?” she asked anxiously.

“You are unto Teddy,” the voice replied.

“Teddy?” she beamed, “Who is teddy?

“Oh come on, don’t you know Teddy the young man you shared alcohol with at the club and you both ended up in a one night stand at the hotel?”

She sat up furiously, as she recalled now, “What do you want, you asshole?”

“Keep shut, sweet pussy, I believe by now you must be pregnant with my child…”

Mrs. Fanny, hung up, folded her hands, stared fearfully in the space, and gaped…
