Chapter 156: Chapter 156
Chapter 156
~Meyer’s twin babies~
Meyer couldn’t stop moping at the twin baby boys while they slept peacefully in their cradle. Today would make it two days she put to bed of the twins, and her joy knew no bound ever since she brought the cute twins into this life; the doctor had congratulated her for the safe delivery and told her she defeated the feat of conducting a caesarian on her, because the twins were overgrown and two big to be born freely. She was glad to experience child birth. When she was very much younger her mother would tell her that child birth was like a woman having a hard stool. But today she could say it was more than that; the joy of procreation couldn’t even let her believe and confirm what her mother had told her years ago.
In a short while, a young lady of Mexico origin, who was tall, and tan in complexion walked in, looking all smiles, with opened arms. She rubbed Meyer slightly on the arm.
“Oh wow, congratulations,” the lady said, advancing to the cradles where the twins were. She peered at them, rubbed on their cheeks and used the handkerchief to wipe the bubble that gummed on the lips of one the twins.
She was the nanny Meyer hired few days before her delivery. In as much as she needed a nanny for the twins, the loneliness hanging across her semi-detached duplex was threatening. Not only did she need a nanny but also company.
“Coco, coco, coco,” the nanny said playfully, waving her palms across their faces, “Oh they are awake now,” she added, and used their handkerchief to wipe the bubbles that stuck by the corner of their lips.
One of the twins smiled while the other looked this way and that way, followed the movement of her palms, with his lips cutely molding yet another bubble.
“Oh so gorgeous twins. But ma’am they don’t resemble you. They must resemble their father,” the nanny said, smiled at Meyer whose smile was much dilated than hers.
But the fact was that Meyer forced this very smile when the nanny mentioned the father of the twins. Who else was their father if not Brian? She was quite sure Brian didn’t know she was pregnant let alone delivered of cute twin baby boys.
What would he do if he got to know?
Would he accept the twins?
Would he agree to run a paternity test if need be?
Or would he welcome the twins with delight?
Those questions panged her heart that she was lost in choosing her fate. She had decided to keep it as secret but for how long would she keep the twin babies from knowing their father.
The days ahead, Meyer looked forward to confronting Brian with the reality. She was proud to be the first girl to bear Brian children; it had been her fantasy. And she knew Brian would deny the twins and anything that got to do with her. But would he deny the night it rained heavily and his car spoilt mysteriously when he was about leaving her house; how he spent the night in her house, got drunk and pounded her madly in serial pounds of sex. Although Brian had accused her falsely of having canal knowledge of him, it didn’t change the fact that they had sex and she conceived of the twins; it was a charm she had rehearsed and mastered and in the end she expected Brian to propose to her in marriage after beholding the gorgeous twins she had for him. Being a man with emotion, she expected him to be the happiest man on earth the day he would get to find out about the twins.
Regardless of the fact that she placed the nanny on salary, Meyer was grateful to the nanny for deeming it right to stay with the twins even after her contract of employment elapsed. As a senior police officer, it was helpful to her in attending to her job, and making official trips without having to deal with keeping her head up for the twins.
As time dragged by, the twins grew in stature and disturbance. The day they hit the age of one Meyer blew them a luxurious birthday party that made her home a destination for neighborhood kids in the days ahead, as they came asking for cake that they thought would never finish. In one of those nights, Meyer had eulogized the nanny for keeping it down for her. Not only was she willing to increase her pay, she was willing to add more benefits to her paycheck.
“I have been granted a two-week vacation leave at my office,” Meyer told the nanny as she fed them with milked cereals.
“Oh wow that’s great,” the nanny replied and continued feeding the boys who ate with less interest.
“Yes, I have been yearning for the wonder of Paris. I really want us to go on a vacation,” she said and noticed the decline that built in the nanny’s frown.
“The twins are too young for such a far journey,” she protested, still all frown, “We have nice destinations with natural wonders here in America. There is this wonderful city we can do. You just can’t wait to have a walk on the wild side; visit natural parks like Everglades Biscayne Park; the Wreck Diving is one thing about the city you can’t avoid. Another wonder in the city is its mind-blowing skyline, high end hotels, and magnifying night life that leave you begging for more,” the nanny said.
“Hmmm interesting.” With the interest on her face, Meyer asked, “What is the name of this city precisely?”
“Miami,” she replied.
“Miami?” Meyer cut in sharply, pouting her lips and rolling her eyes.
No other person came on her mind than Brian whom she knew stayed in Miami with his grandma and she thought if it was time to reveal to Brian of his cute twin babies.
Or was there going to be another war if she did…
